Who Wants to Learn the Bacon Dance? – A May 2012 TR - 6/30 - 3 Updates

Whew, I thought driving across and down the state was long, I couldn't imagine having to cross an entire state, knowing WDW was waiting for you at the end of a very long carride. (Plus an overnight stay, but that's beside the point.:rotfl:)

Everyone sounds happy and excited to be beginning the trip! Plus, it's always fun when that realization hits you that in a day's time, you'll be back on beloved rides and seeing the castle again. :thumbsup2

IT's like I always say: Georgia is really a lovely state but it's in between me and Florida so that doesn't make me very happy. ;)

Everyone was so excited! I was mostly sleepy. I was a defintitely more excited the next day though.

great start - always love the BC trip reports. :goodvibes:

Thanks! I think we've become BC fans now. The kids were so sad to leave SAB.

Why yes, yes she was. lol

It really is such a small world! I wasn't born there but I did end up getting stitches in my knee there. I moved here when I was 16 so it's been a long time since I lived there. I went back about 3 or 4 years ago and EGV had changed quite a bit.

The Bacon Dance Crew’s Adventure’s in Georgia

Once we entered Georgia, we of course pulled over at the Georgia Welcome Center so us womenfolk could use the restroom. While we were there we saw a sign that said “Georgia. A Smile Every Mile.” I wish I had taken a picture of this! I kind of slacked on the picture taking on the trip down. You see, I don’t dislike the state of Georgia, but I really don’t like driving the 353 miles to get to Florida. It goes on forever! So for us, driving through the state of Georgia is not a smile every mile. In fact, it’s the opposite. We enter the state with a smile and by the time we hit mile 353 we’re like “Really!? Aren’t we in Florida yet!? Please!!!” Before we left, Alex and Lauren each grabbed a Georgia state map and some brochures.

Anyway, by 9:30 we were back on the road and we broke out some snacks. Then Alex wanted to see where we were in Georgia. I heard a bunch of rustling behind me and when I turned around, I saw this:

About an hour later we hit Atlanta. Our goal was to get to Atlanta between the morning traffic and the lunch traffic. We did pretty well. Of course, since it was Atlanta there was still traffic but it was much better than if it had been morning, noon, or rush hour traffic. And once again, I normally take pictures of Atlanta traffic but I didn’t this trip. I have to admit, I was really tired this day. I wasn’t able to drive most of the trip down since I was so sleepy. So you’ll just have to take my word that the Atlanta traffic wasn’t too bad.

When we were planning our trip, Mike made it very clear that we had to stop at Zaxby’s for lunch. You see, we don’t have a Zaxby’s in Knoxville. The surrounding smaller towns do, (like Maryville or Maravull to us natives) but we don’t. This upsets Mike. He’s jealous that they have one and we don’t. So before we left, Mike looked up what exits in Georgia had Zaxby’s. I think he might have a problem y’all! So when we hit exit 228 we knew that there would be a Zaxby’s waiting for us and Mike was all too happy to pull off at the exit at 11:20.

We had a nice lunch there. We sat down at a table and started to eat when all of a sudden I looked at one of the pictures near our table:

Some of you may wondering why I would take such an interest in this one picture. Well my friends, I suffer from Coulrophobia – aka fear of clowns. There’s not much that bothers me, but clowns are my nemesis. I know it’s silly but I just have no desire to try to like them. So what’s a clown fearing girl to do when she’s sitting across from a picture of a clown? I turned the other way, pretended it wasn’t there and preceded to check us into Zaxby’s at Jonesboro, GA on Facebook. But in the back of my mind, I knew it was still there. I could sense its presence…

Mike and the kids really seemed to enjoy their meal and I think this was Mom’s first time eating at Zaxby’s.

After we finished lunch, I decided I’d give a go at driving.

I didn’t get very far though. By the time we reached the Macon bypass I was getting sleepy again. I don’t know how people drive for long periods of time. I drive for two hours and I’m ready to fall asleep. And since I was really tired anyway, I had no hope of driving very far. Us womenfolk were once again in need of a restroom (gotta love sweet tea) so I pulled off at Macon exit 5 and we used the facilities at a McDonald’s. Mike graciously took over driving again.

“On the road again. Just can’t wait to get on the road again.” We continued on our journey to make it out of Georgia. But before that could happen we needed to fill the gas tank. We decided that Tifton would be a good place to fill ‘er up! As we approached exit 61 we noticed the vans DVD/CD player was acting funny. It was in the upper 90’s outside so I thought maybe the system was overheating. We pulled into the gas station and hoped that it would work again once the van was turned back on. While Mike filled the van, the children, Mom and I went into the gas station and got some drinks. We told the kids that if they were good during the drive down and back they could have a special treat whenever we stopped at a gas station. Both the kids picked bottles of apple juice for their treat.

We all pilled back into the van and prayed a little prayer that the DVD player was miraculously better. Big negatory on that one. I’m sorry to say that the DVD player is in need of some repair. So we turned on Radio Disney and continued once again on our quest to leave the state of Georgia.

Up Next: The Bacon Dance Crew (BDC) will finally enter Florida. It will be a joyous occasion y’all!

I so have a fear of clowns too! There's just something exceedingly creepy there! I would've had to turn my chair around, too, so I couldn't see him! DH & I have even made complete detours in Walmart when you can hear the clown coming on his little bike with the bell. Ughhhhh!! :scared:

Love Zaxbys! Their salads are great. I am going to note to never go to the one you did, though. I don't necessarily hate clowns, but I don't exactly love them, either.

Our original plan was to stop for dinner in Tifton or Vadosta (Valdaahsta or Vald-oh-sta), but we got ther too soon, so we didn't stop. We did stop at a McDonalds in Tifton on the way home. It wasn't very busy with customers, but the employees were very busy....socializing. :lmao:

We also had a great DVD debacle on our trip. I packed the old, broken DVD player instead of the spiffy brew DVD player that we just bought for our last trip in September. That won't happen again!

I don't believe I've ever driven through Georgia, but I'm starting to feel like I have now. (It can't be as bad as driving across Nebraska, though...that is the boringness that never ends!) I have no idea what Zaxby's is. Guess I'll have to look that up now. Hooray for almost being to Florida! :cool1:

ETA: Okay, I looked up Zaxby's. Boy do they like their "Z"s!

Hope the DVD player stopped acting up! That could make for a long ride! How did our parents ever do it? ;)

Can't believe that Knox-vegas doesn't have a Zaxbys! On the trip home, my girls were having their Zax withdrawl. They insisted that we either stop there or Chick-fil-a! My girls love their chicken---which I find slightly amusing, since they order chicken nuggets at nearly every counter service restaurant in the parks!

Everyone always asks me if I've seen the movie "It." Why would I do that? I have a fear of clowns! I already want to do physical harm to clowns, who knows what I'd do if I sa that movie. :scared1:

Our DVD player pretty much bit the dust. We'll eventually have to get it fixed. We only really use it on long trips so we can wait a little bit before getting it fixed.

I've never had Zaxby's salads. There was a group who ordered some while we were there though and the salads were gigantic!

No way! I went to Karns (grad in 99) and went to/still go to church in Farragut so knew tons of people there too. Small world! :rotfl2:

I graduated in 94. I only went to Karns for a year and a half. We moved here halfway through my junior year. Was a big culture shock from the burbs of Chicago. When I moved here we had the "Blizzard of 93." Everyone joked that I brought the snow down with me.

I don't believe I've ever driven through Georgia, but I'm starting to feel like I have now. (It can't be as bad as driving across Nebraska, though...that is the boringness that never ends!) Driving though Indiana is pretty boring too. Lots, and lots of corn. I was born there so it doesn't bother me as much. But it drives mike crazy. Zaxby's is pretty good. I'm still slightly baffled though why Mike likes it soooo much. I just don't get it. :confused3

Should I mention that little ol' Soddy Daisy has a Zaxby's? ;)

:lmao:Mike was not happy when I told him this. ;)

So does Alcoa ;) Knoxville does have Wishbones though - I personally think Wishbones chicken is better (and was a Sawyers fan before they closed)

He's well aware the Alcoa has one. Doesn't make him happy. :rotfl: I really liked Sawyers. I was sad when they closed. I've never had Wishbones. May have to give it a try...

The DVD player will probably need to be replaced or fixed. Mike is going to try to use a cleaning CD and see if that works.

That's a lot of chicken nuggets! Lauren pretty much did the same thing.

When Lacey lived in Cleveland, Georgia, we had to eat at Zaxby's every trip 'cause it was so good. Imagine our delight when, one day, a "future home of Zaxby's" popped up near our house. We were so happy! :cool1:

I pretty sure that Lacey and Jesse took the same exact route that you guys did to WDW.

It sounds like the kids were doing pretty well without the DVD player. :thumbsup2

I just don't get why K-town doesn't have a Zaxby's. It really seems like everyone else does.

The kids didn't really miss the DVD player which really suprised me. I guess they had enough stuff in their bags to keep them occupied. :thumbsup2

Just Because #1 – Scrapbook, Crosstitch, Dessert…OH MY!

While y’all are waiting for our arrival in Florida, here’s a little life update which also happens to have something to do with our Disney trip!

What a crazy week it’s been y’all! We got back from Disney and immediately started Vacation Bible School. For five days we went to our church. The kids had a ball and I helped in one of the three craft rooms (We go to a really big church so we need several). So after doing our Disney thing and then doing our VBS thing I was in need of some “paper therapy.” You know, scrapbooking. One of my friends sells scrapbook stuff and once a month she holds a crop at her house. She cuts all the paper and all we have to do is glue the paper together (Well, that and put stickers, brads, ribbon, etc on the layouts). There’s usually between 11-15 women who go and we have a hoot!

So what does me scrapbooking have to do with our trip? Glad you asked! :thumbsup2 Our layouts for this month were beach themed. And y’all know where we stayed…

So I got to make four layouts that were beach themed for our trip! Here they are (minus any pictures since I haven’t had time to add those yet):

Not only do I like to scrapbook, but I like to do crosstitch too. While we were in Disney I happened to remember a kit that I had purchased about two years ago. What’s that? I have kits that I bought two years ago that I haven’t even started? Why yes, yes I do. I have a ton of kits that are in a box just waiting for me to start and finish. Why? Because I go to craft stores or Disney and I see one I like and I just know that they won’t have it the next time I go back. So I snatch it up and buy it. Drives Mike crazy! I don’t know why…I mean this is what I have in my box:
IMG_9814w.jpg

Okay, maybe I have a slight problem. :rolleyes1 I suppose when you add that to the two that I am already working on and one that’s not pictured, then I suppose it might be a little much.

Anyway, back to the kit I remembered having when we were in Disney. We were staying at the BC and it’s, well, you know, beachy themed. I thought “Hey! I’ve got a beach themed crosstitch kit just waiting for me to start! Maybe I should start that when we get home!” So we got home and I completely forgot about it.

Fast forward to last night. I’m doing the beach themed scrapbook layouts and I remember about my crosstitch kit. So this morning I dug it out of my crosstitch box. Here’s what the kit looks like:

Now for the dessert, which has absolutely nothing to do with our trip. Well, except for the fact that I got so used to taking pictures of food in Disney that I felt the need to do so with our dessert tonight. Nothing fancy, but it was pretty tasty. I grilled pineapple and topped it with some vanilla ice cream and caramel sauce. It was wonderful! So to get you ready for some upcoming food pictures, here’s what tonight’s dessert looked like:
IMG_9812w.jpg

So there you have it! A just because post that kind of ties into our Disney trip. Kinda…

Thank you for the entertainment! I'm laughing already :):) Your comments about driving thru Georgia are cracking me up. If it makes you feel any better, the ride thru Virginia on 81 from West Virginia to 77 is no better. I thought my head would explode from sheer boredom. Although perhaps my husband dropped the ball and could have been more entertaining. Looking forward to reading more. Just out of curiosity, if your kids finish school in mid May, when do they start? I live in PA but teach in NJ and our last day is this Friday, June 15, but we start after Labor Day.
