Who Wants to Learn the Bacon Dance? – A May 2012 TR - 6/30 - 3 Updates

Thank you for the entertainment! I'm laughing already :):) Your comments about driving thru Georgia are cracking me up. If it makes you feel any better, the ride thru Virginia on 81 from West Virginia to 77 is no better. I thought my head would explode from sheer boredom. Although perhaps my husband dropped the ball and could have been more entertaining. Looking forward to reading more. Just out of curiosity, if your kids finish school in mid May, when do they start? I live in PA but teach in NJ and our last day is this Friday, June 15, but we start after Labor Day.

Thank you! We start school in mid August. When DH and I were in school here, it was closer to Labor Day. Over the years they keep pushing the start date up. It kind of stinks that they start so early but it's nice at the end of the year when they get out earlier than other areas.

Haha, I remember dreading the southern states when we drove to Florida when I was a kid, because they are all so huge! It took so long to get through them, I'm from CT, and all the states up north are tiny and take no time at all! Even when you hit Florida, it's still such a long drive to Disney! So I can understand dreading Georgia!

Ugh, I don't like clowns either!

I can't drive for long periods of time, I get so bored, and really tired, my poor DH does most of the driving anytime we go anywhere! If we have to drive somewhere far away, I'll offer to drive for an hour maybe, but that's it! :rotfl:

Your scrapbooking stuff is so cute! I wish I knew how to scrapbook, I really need to take a class someday!

Oh, I meant to tell you, as much as we hate the drive through GA, we thought we'd try up the coast and back through the carolinas to come home last time. DH said never again. The trip through GA was quick but SC took forever and coming over the mountains was not fun in the dark. We will take 75 from here on out unless there is a particular reason not to do so.

Dessert looks tasty! If it makes you feel any better about your cross-stitch collection, I don't have one, but I am still working on the same one I bought probably around 13 years ago. Not even half done. Woo hoo! :guilty:

Fun updates. I am also very afraid of clowns. My Hubby's Great Grandma celebrated her 95th birthday in April. The restraunt sent in a clown. I lost it since I was sitting right by Grandma. Glad ur Hubby got his yummy lunch :)

It seems like more and more people don't like clowns. Besides the fact that they're creapy, I wonder why that is...

I don't know what my deal is with driving. :confused3 I often wonder if it's because when I was a baby my Mom and Dad would put me in the car when I wouldn't go to sleep in my bed. They drove me around until I went to sleep.

Thank you! I didn't scrapbook very much at all until I met my friend who sells the stuff. I've been going to these monthly scrapbooking crops and after a couple of months, it didn't seem as hard to do.

Oh my! I've suggested several alternate routes to Mike and he just looks at me and says "I don't think so." Those mountains can be tricky in the daytime so I completely understand them not being fun in the dark! 75 seems to be the only decent route. At lest the welcome centers are along there.

Thanks! We went a little grill crazy tonight. Our grill died a slow death. Little by little each burner died. So after a long winter of no grilling and most of spring, we finally got a new grill today. So we grilled some chicken, corn on the cob, and pineapple. I was never so happy to grill! I have one crosstitch piece that I have been working on for 4 years, one for 3 and I just started the beach on today. I used to be able to knock them out quickly but ever since the kiddos came along, I can't seem to find the time to do it. ;)

Thanks Mary! Oh my goodness! I can only imagine! Did you have to leave the room? Mike was very happy with his lunch. Too bad they haven't built one here. Mike would keep it in business. :lmao:

Love your scrapbook layouts! I'm such a glutton for scrapbook supplies, and a beach theme is so pretty, I'd have been in troube with minimizing my purchases. :rotfl2: (I'm already banned from going to A.C. Moore and Hobby Lobby without my husband, because he knows I'll spend way more than I should.:confused3)
As an aside, are you going to do a scrapbook for this Disney trip? If so, I'd love to see them! I always enjoy seeing what other people create from WDW vacations.

Zaxby's is a pretty good restaurant, and I think it was a great way to break the monotony of driving through Georgia. Just hearing about how many miles you had to drive to make it to the FL line makes me exhausted.

Thank you! Everytime I tell Mike I'm going to Hobby Lobby, A.C. Moore, or JoAnn's Mike gets a scared look on his face. I could spend hours just wandering around craft stores. :cloud9:

It will probably take me awhile to start the Disney scrapbook since I'm still trying to finish the kids school scrapbooks for this past school year. But if I do anymore layouts for it, I'll post them. :thumbsup2

The 353 miles isn't so bad on the way back home. On the way down we kept hearing: "Are we in Florida yet?" About drove me nuts!

I feel your pain, driving makes me sleepy too. We always use to drive but 20 hours was way too long. Can't wait to see the hotel :)

Love your scrapbook layouts...and that dessert looks terrific! Your scrapbook get-together sounds fun!! :yay:

Hmm, why does everyone hate driving through Georgia? Oh yeah, nevermind, I get it! Heck, I have to drive in Atlanta traffic every day - I know you are jealous!

Great start, and I can't wait to read more of the Bacon Dancers!!!

20 hours!? I'd be sleeping real good if I rode in a car that long.

Thanks! The get-togethers are way too much fun. Hours of scrapbooking and women talking.

We made it back and I'm here to read along! :thumbsup2

Yay! :yay: There should be an updte coming soon!

I can't imagine driving through that traffic every day. Update should be up by the end of the night. :thumbsup2

Florida: The Sunshine State?

It was at 3:20 that we saw the sign. The wonderful, beautiful, happy, joy producing sign. This sign:

And it got closer:

And closer:

And closer:

Can y’all tell I was excited?

I wish it was bigger. It needs to be bigger. It should stretch across the three lanes of interstate like a rainbow saying:

Congratulations! You’ve made it to the beautiful state of Florida!

Everything just seems better once we cross that line that you can only see on maps.

After we crossed the state line, we pulled over at the Florida Welcome Center. I just love how you get free orange juice here! We each got some orange juice and then the kids wanted to look at brochures.

I don’t know, maybe it’s just my children, but they love those things. Brochures and maps. Of course we had to get Florida state maps.

Then we had to get a picture in front of the “Welcome to Florida” sign

We once again stuffed ourselves back into the van and I offered to drive. I felt a burst of energy from being in Florida (or maybe it was the nap I took earlier in the afternoon). It was at 5:20 that we made it to our overnight stay: the Comfort Suites in Oakahlah, Florida. And that’s when it started to pour. The heavens opened up. Their poor plastic horse decoration got knocked over by the wind. Too bad we didn’t take a picture… While Mike and Mom checked us in, the kids and I stayed in the van watching the rain pour down. I then I noticed the vehicle parked near us was from Tennessee. Not only that, they were from Blount County, right next door to Knox county. And I knew, that they felt my pain of having to drive through Georgia. We had that brief moment of connection.

Mike and Mom came out of the building and got the overnight bags and in the process, dropped the bowls and spoons we had packed for our breakfasts into a puddle. Oops! The kids jumped out under the portico and I went to park the van. My wonderful husband had gotten the umbrella out of the van so he came out to the van and escorted me into the hotel. Such a sweet guy!

Once we got to our rooms, the kids made themselves at home.

It was then that we sprung a surprise on them. When we were planning our trip, Mike had found that Oakahlah has a Chuck E. Cheese. We thought that it would be a good way for the kids to let out some of their energy from being cooped up in a van for most of the day. I have no idea how we kept this a secret. After about 15 minutes we told them where we were going for dinner. Alex was shocked and then celebrated:

Lauren was slightly confused, then shocked, then celebrated:

On the way to Chuck E. Cheese we saw the Oakahlah sign:

We ate some pizza, played some games, and I don’t know about the kids but the adults were exhausted when we left.

At 7:45 we headed back to the hotel, watched a little tv, and then headed to bed since we had another early wake up time. We had a date with Mickey and we didn’t want to be late.

What will happen on our first day at Disney? What will we think of the BC? Will the kids flip out when they get their first glimpses of SAB? And when will we ever learn about this Bacon Dance? It’s all coming up, so don’t miss it!

Yay for arriving in Florida!! boo for the rain! Though, if you were like us, you saw quite a bit of that! Chuck E Cheese was a great surprise!

Yay for being in Florida! That looks like a fancy welcome center! :thumbsup2 I can't wait to hear about checking into BC, I love that place so much! :goodvibes

I'm with the kids.....get all of those Florida brochures that you can! I love 'em so I guess I'm just a big kid too. The pictures of the kids when you sprung the Chuck E. Cheese surprise on them were too cute. It sounds like you guys had a good evening despite the fact that you had to endure the rain.

YAY for making it to Florida. You are a much better woman than me. I don't think my nerves could take Chuck-E-Cheese after having been in a car all day! ;)

Oh we saw quite a bit of rain. I even bought one of the antenna toppers where Mickey is wearing a poncho. ;)

The last few times we've been to the Florida welcome center, it's been closed since we traveled past it at night. So we were very excited to drink some orange juice!

Mike and the kids collect brochures. I don't ever get any because I know we're going to end up with three of the same brochure. :lmao: The kids are already talking about going back to Oakahlah, going to Chuck E. Cheese and sleeping at the Comfort Suites.

I have to admit, I wasn't as patient as I normally would be at Chuck E. Cheese. There were times I had to remind myself that the kids were enjoying it so I needed to chill out.

sounds awesome! count me in :cool1:

:welcome: Thanks for joining in!
