Hey y'all!!

DH and I are planning on an "all out" "kick butt" trip to Disney next year since we had to skip this year. (Whomp whomp)

What can ya tell me about the 1 bedrooms at AKV? We love AKV but we always stay at a studio in Jambo house. We want to splurge (possibly) and do a 1 bedroom. Here are my questions....

Was it worth it?
Heard there were differences between Jambo and kidani 1 bedrooms... Is this true?
Would you recommend it for just two adults?
And last but not least would you be willing to post pictures of your 1 bedroom?? Pretty please?

TIA!

Since you are only 2 adults, the extra bathroom at Kidani would not be a big difference but it's nice if you want to get ready at the same time. Kidani has a separate shower & jetted tub, Jambo is a combination. Jambo has more restaurant choices & has a quick service.

Here are Kidani pictures:

I've owned DVC for a long time and the larger units at Kidani are my absolute favorite out of all DVC units. While I prefer the studios at Jambo, the 1 and 2 bedrooms at Kidani are nicer and I love the resort. The king bed and jacuzzi are nice for a couple and we even use the 2nd bathroom while we are utilizing the living area and it's nice when both people are getting ready at the same time.

We take very little in the way of clothing and just do a load of laundry mid trip.

We bring alcohol and appetizers stuff and we do cocktail hour on our balcony before heading out in the evening. While I don't do any cooking, the kitchen comes in handy for this stuff. It's also great for light breakfasts and coffee/tea in the mornings and having an uncluttered non-bedroom area in which to enjoy it. We even do in-room dining breakfast 1 or 2 times per stay.

Thanks so much!!! :cutie:

Part of me likes the idea of two bathrooms because we can both get ready at the same time (DH is kind of a bathroom hog! :rolleyes1 ) But I have yet to stray from Jambo lol. Part of that switch makes me nervous! Thanks for the link to the pictures I'm going to check them out as soon as I get home!

We were upgraded to a 1-bedroom villa in Jambo for our 10th anniversary and we really enjoyed it! :) Yes there were only 2 of us, but we sleep in a king bed at home so it was wonderful, and the jacuzzi tub was nice too. ;) I have TONS of pictures on the report (page 3): http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=1897008

Also we stayed in a 1-bedroom at Kidani, I have tons of pics of that as well: http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=2620587

See the king sized bed is what we sleep on at home too and whenever we stay in the studio we end up hateing the queen! Not that we are BIG people by any means, we both just like to stretch out when we sleep! The idea of the jaccuzzi tub makes me happy too.

I didn't even think about the packing lighter!!!! Good tip!!! :thumbsup2 we like to travel lightly and that is such a good idea. I also like the idea of ordering in-room dining too. We usually went to the mara and brought breakfast back up to snack on while we got ready but, like you said, then you have food where you sleep, an the suitcases, and the rest of your stuff all over the place. It can get pretty cramped.

We are also a Disney couple who like to hangout and enjoy the resort ambiance... having cocktails on the balcony sounds like a wonderful idea! :goodvibes

Thank you all for your comments and advice! You all got me completely and utterly excited and I have more ammunition incase DH tries to change his mind. 1 bedroom here we come! :woohoo:

agree!

Kidani does not have quick service - so would suggest grocery deliver - wegoshop is nice

Stayed at Kidani this April and was very nervous about being away from the "action" of Jambo house. Instead, we only went over to QS twice - and it was VERY easy both times with the shuttle that runs every 10 minutes or so. As adults, you could probably walk but I wasn't eager to drag my 1 & 3 year olds along....or ride if you like a little AC!

But basically, I loved it so much I now have a DVC contract. It's like being in a totally new world, so removed from Disney and so many great things to do/see. I have a hard time staying anywhere else (unless it is on the monorail - see children above). Just love, love, loved every minute of our stay. Doing Jambo for one night soon .... that's what I tend to do now after quite a few stays. Jambo if it is one or two nights, otherwise Kidani all the way. And DEFINITELY if in a 1 or 2br - love the extra bath!!!

I have to agree! I love how far away it feels and exotic :goodvibes We've tried other DVC resorts but we just keep coming back to AKV.

Do you know how long the walk is from kidani to jambo? We've never done it . It really does make me nervous to be away from jambo, but I LOVE the idea of the second bathroom. I guess I have to try something new  I'm such a fraidy cat!

OMG! I just looked at your 2011 live trip report! It was AWESOME! :thumbsup2 I'm also going to start following you on twitter!

Thank you again!

Does anyone know how far the walk would be from Kidani to Jambo house?

I did it last year with my 3 and 4 year olds and from what I had read I was expecting it to be a journey. It wasn't more than 10 mins probably even less and that was with the young ones. I was thinking we were going to enjoy a nice long walk but we were there in no time.

We haven't stayed at Kidani but we loved the 1 bd at Jambo House. It was gorgeously decorated and a nice size.

We stayed 3 nights at Kidani in August... and we loved it. We spent a lot of time on the balcony. The living room was definitely more comfortable for the 2 girls with 2 beds that could even stay open without blocking things up. Two bathrooms was heaven.

The only drawbacks were
- a lot of long walks
- getting to Jambo took a bit too much time, especially if you had to wait for a second van. Walking was not an option for us.
- long waits and bus rides

So we will visit again but we won't likely buy into DVC here. But I wish I had these rooms at BWV!

Thanks everyone!!! Much appreciated ;)

I can't wait. I'm still on the fence about kidani vrs Jambo but that second bathroom has me leaning towards kidani.

You really can't go wrong with either! You wil have such a great trip.

So true! I'm so excited to be planning another trip! DH and I are so down that we weren't able to go this fall. But we are both over the moon to be planning something for next fall. Adding the idea of a 1 bedroom makes it even better! :cool1:
