Who walked you down the aisle?

I think that it can be an embarrassment to some dads to be at their daughter's wedding, but not be the one walking them down the aisle. You know how people (especially family) talk. Dads are probably hurt when they aren't asked to do the walking, but that feeling is probably tripled when they think about how it will "appear" to family and friends.

The key wording being "some dads". I'd venture to guess there are a lot of Dads who would prefer to skip the whole thing altogether. I know my dad was thrilled to read a lesson (something he enjoys doing) rather than "give me away" - a tradition he couldn't give a rip about. (I was one of the ones that skipped that tradition and walked to the altar with my dh).

My 2 brothers walked me down the aisle-my Dad had died about 3 years before I got married. My brothers were great-they made me laugh by whispering silly things because they knew I was heartbroken that my Daddy wasn't there with me. The first thing I said to the Dr who told me that my father had died(at 54 from a massive heart attack) was "Who will walk me down the aisle?" It's amazing the things you say when you're in shock-the Dr looked at me like I was nuts but the EMT next to him got all teary. Anyway, it was a beautiful wedding and I was glad that I had both my brothers-they danced with me also
