Who thinks Disney is trying to Re-Open too soon?

It's like people forgot why we went to lockdown

It was never to wait out the virus until a vaccine. It was just so we didn't overwhelm the hospital sysrem all at once. Which we didn't. 99% of hospitals were never in danger of being overrun. We succeeded in our goal. It's time to start the reopening process. Simply can't wait for vaccine that may never even come, and if it does it'll be late 2021 at the earliest. You're more likely to die from the travel to Disney than the virus.

The media has convinced people that if you get this virus, you will die. That is simply not the case. Most people who get the virus will recover. Like another poster just said, there is risk associated with everything and everyday of your life. The most dangerous thing a person does on a daily basis is drive/ride in a car. But people still do it. You can die on a plane, but people still fly. Every activity we do carries a risk. You just have to determine if the risk is worth it to you.
Amen!

Disney is doing their due diligence and seeing what the best route for them, taking into account current guidelines and government restrictions, on how best to open and when to open. When they do decide to open, that is when the decision whether to go or not falls on the consumer, and their own inherent level of risks. I would shake my head at anyone who decides to go just because they are open, possibly catch the virus while they are there, and then blame Disney for getting the virus because "they were open so it must be safe." Most people would know that they are taking on the responsibility of that risk by going and being ok with it, because Disney can't possibly protect everyone from catching it, let alone anyone being able to absolutely prove they got it while they were at Disney, but there are always the outliers who won't accept the blame.

It amazes me that there are people who can rationalize going back to Disneyworld in the middle of a Pandemic. How can going to a theme park ever be worth jeopardizing your very life, or your families lives, or someone in your Community when you get back home? Yes I understand economics and that some more essential places have to re-open in order for life to go on. Disneyworld is Not one of those places. We won't die if we can't go there; but we MIGHT DIE if we do. I'm so very disappointed in Disney. I truly expected better from them. I will never be able to view Disneyworld as my happy place again... now that I know they are willing to let people die there just to make more money from us. The New Disneyworld: The GERMIEST Place on Earth!
Then don't go when they reopen. It will likely be much cleaner than it was before this all happened.

If WDW opens soon, presumably it would be with fairly significant risk controls and even with those controls guests would need to sign a liability waiver I would think.

I would not go. I'm 54. Not until there is a viable treatment, a vaccine, or the # of infected drops significantly. I'll continue to save my money, protect my life and health, and splurge on a couple of luxury vacations when the time is right.
I think liability waivers are a long shot. I don’t sign one before boarding RnR, I doubt that they will require one for a virus that cannot be controlled by Disney.

Each of us makes decisions based on our risk assessments. I don’t think anyone can fault you for looking at the information you have and choosing to stay away from Disney. Nor do I think others should be derided if they choose to go.

I don't think that they are trying to open too soon. All they have done is open a few non Disney owned shops/ restaurants at Disney springs. And they did it later than the rest of the area that they are in. Now, if they were opening the parks say Monday, I would think it was hasty. All that said, I am not planning on rushing there when they open anyway. We cancelled our end of May into June trip (or it was cancelled for us!) and I have not yet booked another one. So much is changing so quickly with this disease I think that we will know much more in just even a month or six weeks. Also, I suspect that once the dust settles it won't be too hard to get a ressie- too much job loss and uncertainty that folks won't spend $$$$ on Disney. Maybe I am wrong, but if so, I will just go another time. No biggie. Finally, I think that it is important to remember that Disney is not doing anything out of the goodness of their heart. They are there to make money and do that with the least risk possible. They won't open unless they can be certain that it will only benefit them from a risk, financial and PR standpoint. They are not stupid and won't BE stupid with the opening. JMO.

WDW under normal operations would spread the virus like butter on a hot bagel. They can not eliminate the risk of infection. They also cannot be the epicenter of an outbreak. I think decisions about park alterations revolve around that. Whether they feel prepared to open or not comes second to travel restrictions, which have no confirmed date to start again. WDW needs CMs and guests from other states.

Today I received a survey from WDW in regards to reopening. They give several options you can tick off all along the lines of what is a deal-breaker for you. Many of them are mentioned here (masks, limited attractions, etc)

It seems they may be gauging what most will be willing to give up and still go on their planned trip.

Bit dramatic, don't you think?

We don't know when Disney is going to reopen. They have allowed third party tenants of Disney Springs to reopen AS THEY SEE FIT, and as is their right according to Florida law, on May 20. Even that is more than 2 weeks after FL law allows for.

At some point, we have to go back to living. There may NEVER be a vaccine. That is a fact here. We may also NEVER have a bulletproof treatment. Another fact. We have to move forward under these 2 assumptions, and find a way to do it as carefully as possible. The economy cannot improve with everything closed, and with everything closed and a frozen economy, the healthcare system will ALSO collapse. This is important for people to understand. Our hospitals, clinics, urgent care centers, medical practices...all of them depend on having a thriving economy. It's all interwoven. There is no way forward by keeping everything closed indefinitely.

Disney is, by all accounts, going to do this as safely as possible. Have a little faith.

OP with a trip countdown ticker?

Good read
Dr. Murray wrote: “If we are not prepared to fight fear and ignorance as actively and as thoughtfully as we fight any other virus, it is possible that fear can do terrible harm to vulnerable people, even in places that never see a single case of infection during an outbreak. And a fear epidemic can have far worse consequences when complicated by issues of race, privilege, and language.”

I actually they are being very reasonable and careful. Not committing to a date since the situation is fluid. Pretty premature to already be complaining about this since they haven’t announced anything related to a date or protocols. A couple of 3rd party restaurants at Disney Springs are opening, but nothing actually owned by Disney yet. They seem to be treading pretty carefully.

With a potentially high risk child, we will not go to a place like WDW for quite some time. I’m hoping we can go in 2022. Others will feel differently.

We have a trip starting June 2nd; still hopeful that it will happen. If not, it will be hard to book a trip that uses our 9 day tickets with our work schedule. We want to go, will wear masks indoors without a problem. Outdoors we would prefer not to - unless it's mandatory and then we will. We know the risks, we're adults.

To your first sentence, that didn't happen
WDW was under normal operations before they closed, remember everyone hating on the amount of crowds during the last week of operations? We were shoulder to shoulder at Magic Kingdom that night, the night before, gues what? No outbreak. We know the virus had been around the U.S. starting in January, don't you think if there were more cases associated with people coming from WDW it would've been on the news? We only saw one report of a person that died later in California that had visited wdw
Not saying people didn't get infected, just that there was no outbreak.

Sorry but last time I looked the survival rate for the average person is over 98% so I think our chances are good. I would be there this morning if it were open.
People throw this number around like it is normal and nothing.... you do realize that is 20X deadlier than the flu right ? It may not be 20X right now, but it has already killed more people in a couple months than the flu does in a year.

Disney just has to wait it out a few more weeks and see what the result is of all the 'brave' people who are tired of following distancing procedures around the country.

Doesn't seem anymore dangerous then standing in line at Costco. Maybe less so.

Again I like my odds so I will be traveling as soon as it’s allowed.
