Looking for an inexpensive flat iron for dd- we live in tampa and the humidity is giving a wave to her straight hair. Trying to keep it around $60 or under if possible...
When DD's expensive flat iron died after a few months, we got her a Remington for about $40 at Bed, Bath & Beyond. It's brown & pink and has lasted a few years now. She has super long, naturally curly hair and it's amazing how well it straightens!
I got mine at Sally Beauty Supply... I think it was around $30. I absolutely love it. I'm at work, so I can't look at it to see what the name was, but it is black w/ "gold" looking plates. It also has a dial so that you can make it hotter / cooler. Which is really nice. but they had a great selection and were not very expensive.
I know you are trying to stay within a budget so you can ignore my post. But I have a Paul Mitchell and love it. We live in southeast Texas where it is humid and hot most of the year. I also have very thick, wavy/curly hair. I have had cheaper flat irons and about 3 chi irons (They all broke within a year) and so far the PM is the best. I have had it for maybe 5-6 years and its still going strong! I looked at it more as an investment, I bought mine when they first came out and paid $150. You may find one cheaper since they have been out awhile.
exactly what I was going to say.. I bought a flat iron a tj maxx a few years back and it was a non brand one but a good professional quality one and it worked as good if not better than my old CHI
I do! But I don't have a 'budget friendly' one. I *did* but they just didn't work too well on my moderately thick, wavy-curly hair, and I'd have to make too many passes to straighten it. That just ruined my hair more, lol.
So I bit the bullet and bought this Solia one. They have a narrower, slightly cheaper one, too. It was a great investement though as I iron my hair semi-frequently and it has been going strong for a little over 2 years now.

Thank you all for the replies. I am going to check out BB&B and TJ max tomorrow. We already bought her a new blu-ray dvd internet player and the Hunger Games Dvd, so the flat iron is an extra gift- I am trying to keep it under $50, honestly because we're throwing her two separate small bday parties- her two groups of friends don't get along and we've determined that everyone is happier that way. One party is doing a murder mystery dinner & sleepover and for the second party we're having a friend who is a makeup artist come in to show the girls how to apply their makeup appropriately.
You may want to check out Sally's as well, they have a 60 day return policy. If you buy something you can return it which to me is huge with hair products. I bought a rotating curling iron that I thought I would love, it has too small of a barrel. They have a special on a Flat Iron (sorry don't remember the name but the person working there said it is excellent) with a free curling iron for $59 through the end of September. I am going to exchange my curling iron for these two items and just pay the difference.
