Last year I fell in love with collecting pins! We are heading down in August and I am looking for any advice, tips, locations, suggestions, or information on adding pins to my collection. My DH thinks I am nuts, but I don't care. I have my own set ot pins as well as my DD(5) and DS(3). I know this year I am buying the safety backs, we lost a pin last year that I had to replace. Any information would be great! Thanks! :yay:

We got into it fairly recently. We don't trade because we buy ones we like. The biggest selection at the parks is in DTD. We always get ones that sort of commemorate our trips. For example, in May we got the Flower and Garden Festival Pin.

When we went last year my DS(3) collected the nemo pins. DD(4 at the time) collectd princess pins. I picked up ones that represented the park that we were visiting. :smickey: This year DS will be looking for CARS pins. :car: I hope they have them. DD is still looking for princess. princess:

I am also crazy in collecting pins. Even though I buy pins I love, I still trade them because the cast members have rairer ones. Ones you can't buy. When I trade the pins I like, I go out and buy them again. Your buying the same pin, but your not.

Also MGM and AK has a nice Kiosk with Limited Edition Pins, check those parks out, also EPCOT has the BEST! :thumbsup2

Check out www.odpt.com and www.dizpins.com to see what pins are coming out when you are there. The pins are not always available everywhere (and there are surprise pins that only come out at one location).

Each park has at least one place for obtaining pins (MK has two) and as mentioned Pin Traders at DTD has a very large selection.

I love pins but got out of pintrading because it became too expensive for me to keep up with and I ran out of room to store them. If I buy a pin now it has to relate to a memory made during a visit.

DD is really into the pin trading. Tink of course is what she desires most.

She uses the pin bags as it protects the pins from rides and getting lost. They have some smaller ones now and some have even used CD cases.

I just picked up a Original park Tink Banner that she is going to use to display her pins on.

I love pins too! I have a large collection of cat pin and I am just starting with Pirates of the Caribbean.

For an added adventure for pin lovers, meet Scoop at the 1:00 Pin Collectors meeting at Magic Kingdom in the same bldg where the photo pass center is. It's on the right hand side when you enter uinder the train station.
I recently came back from a trip and a fellow Diser talked me into attending. I'm not into trading, but collecting, and was wondering about a certain pin that I have in my collection. Not only was he able to help me out with that. Nearly everyone who attended won a pin. He is very intertaining and informative. Besides, it was in the airconditioned theater and was a nice hour of cooling off time.
Thanks,

You can also search wdw.com for pins - http://eventservices.disney.go.com/pintrading/search/index. I went a little wild with pins on the first trip when I started acquiring them (at $8-10 they add up fast!), so now I try to pick a pin mission for my trips - only certain characters or only limited editions or just for the resort I'm staying out. Disney found a goldmine with the pins for sure. And they are so much fun.

I very much love pins...I, too, end up collecting more than trading, but I love to see what I find on CM lanyards, because most of the time I've never seen them before and if I like it, I don't care if it's Limited or whatever. I've actually gotten some of my best pins off CM lanyards just because I liked them...on our honeymoon, I traded a CM for a pin that had Mickey on a blue balloon, because it reminded me of my childhood trips to the park, when I always HAD to have a Mickey head balloon. Much to my surprise, it turned out to be a CM-only pin! :cheer2:

I've found a great way to display mine -- we found some cloth-covered cork boards on sale at OfficeMax (regular $60, we paid $15 each), and I display all my pins on those. We have them up in our office/junk room. They're great, since I get to look at my pins all the time and they always bring back good memories.

The drawback...those little pins can get soooo EXPENSIVE! And I had a bad CM-trading experience a couple of years ago that almost put me off trading forever. (It was E-ride night, and he made me wait 45 minutes to trade with him, and then accused me of being a 'pin shark' because I wanted to trade him for two of the special Lanyard Pins -- which I didn't even know WERE Lanyard Pins -- he had on his gold lanyard! It was an awful experience, because he made me feel about 2-inches tall, as if I had no right to be pin trading!) But then last October on our second Disney cruise, I decided to try again, and found the love of the treasure hunt and CM interaction again. I decided I wasn't going to let one bad experience put me off...and now I know better than to let someone like him bully me - I should have reported him to Guest Services for making me feel so bad.

We're going to WDW this October, and I'm already going through my pins to decide which ones I'd be willing to trade for new finds! :Pinkbounc

Here is a picture of how I display my pins...

9 dollar shadow box from Walmart. Hanging on my living room wall. I like walking passed it everyday and being reminded of our trips to the world

Oh yes! Halloween pins are starting to come out for Disneyland already! Then there are special event pins...and SO MUCH MORE!

If there is a reason for a pin, they make one...or two, or three....

I've been a huge pin collector for many many years. It goes way back before I went to Disney. I started with ski resort pins, then Hard Rock Cafe and Planet Hollywood pins. Then I went to Disney and was completely hooked. I don't go crazy, usually only 11-15 pins per trip. I only get ones that I like and also special event ones that I've attended, things like that. Last trip DW started getting into to too. She traded a few times with CM's, but I haven't gotten that far yet. Though I do like what someone said earlier in the thread. Either buy a new one or get 2 of ones that are cool so you can trade. Before our next trip I plan on getting a bunch at mousepinsonline.com. Good selection and great prices for trading.

DTD has a great pin store and I also like the store in Frontierland dedicated just to pins. Lots of good stuff there.

I have all my pins on a pin trading vest I bought during my first visit to Disney. Its starting to get pretty full.

Don't forget that if you stay at a Disney resort you get a voucher for 1 free pin which you can pickup at checkout counter of your hotels store. This pin isn't available for sale in any of the pin stores in the parks. Last year I got 2 (we had 2 rooms) apparently there was a set of 5 Disney Bus pins so I got me 2 of them. This year I got the Mickey with a video and still camera (this has turned out to be my favorite thus far as I'm a big photography nut).

Can't wait for the next trip hopefully next year!!

Love obtaining pins that I find comical or beautiful. Some of these pieces are really a fun work of art.

Yes, pins for every holiday that you can image!

I am a huge Walt Disney pin collector/trader. I currently have 786 pins in my collection. Usually when I go to WDW I purchase around 75-100 new pins on every vacation & in a few weeks when I am back at WDW, I plan to make my collection grow even more.

I LOVE Disney Pins! I have a bunch already, the ones that I am really going after are Lilo & Stitch, Cinderella, Disney cats, Mickey Mouse and friends and the resorts I stay at. I have a nice pin bag, that I bought when I use to work at the Disney Store. But I think when we go to Disney World this Dec., I will pick up another pin bag and some more pins! I also bought a shadow box, so I can display all of my Lilo & Stitch pins( which I am really looking forward to working on, can't do it though until I get back from my Disney World trip though, as I know I will want to add those into my display)!
