Who loves food? This girl! My May 2009 dining reviews, with pics! Updated 6/23!

Thanks everybody for the words of encouragement, I'm psyched you guys are joining me.

First up we have the Lottawatta Lodge as a bit of an aside before I get started, I totally didn't get the name of this place until just recently. I can be a bit oblivious :lmao: Anyhoo, we broke for lunch at around 11:30 just in time to beat the rush. I found the selection here to be larger than I first anticipated so that was a nice surprise. Around the immediate area of the food it seemed to fill up fast after we sat down. Not quite sure about the seating situation away from the registers and condiments

I had the chicken wrap, which looks deceivingly small, with chocolate cake and a diet coke. Anthony had the hot dog with a chocolate chip cookie and a coke. The hot dog looked a little iffy it was kind of ugly in the way hot dogs can be sometimes but it was surprisingly good. He ate the whole thing. The chocolate chip cookie on the other hand was a completely different story. It was probably the most disgusting cookie I have ever had. It was thick but not in the delicious kind of way. It was also really dry. It was not even edible. Good thing my chocolate cake came to the rescue.:)

My chicken wrap was really good. I got ranch dressing to dip it in and I really enjoyed it. The chicken was moist and well seasoned and the veggies were fresh. We both had french fries with our food and I just want to say that I am absolutely in  with the WDW counter service fries. I don't know what it is but I could eat them by the boatloads, especially the ones with extra skin :upsidedow: The chocolate cake was just the basic pre-packaged cake they have everywhere but it was good. Frosting is a little too much for my taste but it never goes to waste with Anthony around so that works out. ;)

Obviously the Lottawatta Lodge is not a dining destination by any stretch of the imagination but if you're going to be at Blizzard Beach it's a worthwhile option.

We did get a chance to try the mini donuts and oh my word::faint: , they are just as good as everyone says they are. They are just warm and delicious and awesome. We did not try any of the dips just had them tossed in sugar. :cloud9: They are not to be missed.

Coming up next...like right now...Yak and Yeti w/pics!

We arrived at Animal Kingdom for rope drop and by the time our 1pm ADR rolled around we were quite famished. The way they have check in set up at Y&Y is kind of weird. I initially walked straight in to the podium bypassing a lady standing outside with a clipboard but was told that I had to check in with her and bring in the slip of paper back inside to the podium. :confused3 I had never seen that before but maybe they were trying to keep the foyer of the restaurant less congested?

We were seated within 5 minutes of our arrival. The restaurant is decorated beautifully, it probably has my favorite decor of the places we have dined in WDW. We were led upstairs to a table overlooking the front of the restaurant. Great spot for people watching. The service was adequate, she wasn't rude but not particularly friendly either.

I ordered the Pot Stickers [seared] for an appetizer:

I absolutely loved them, if they had them as an entree that's what I would have ordered. They came with a soy lime dipping sauce which I didn't care for. It didn't taste bad it just wasn't my bag.

Anthony decided to have a liquid app. and ordered the Bonsai Blast:

It consisted of Vodka, Banana Liquer, Peach Schnapps, blue Curacao and sweet and sour mix. We both rated it a 10/10.

For entrees Anthony went with the Sweet and Sour Chicken:

He gave it a thumbs up. [You're going to have to excuse my lack of detail on some occasions with his impression of the food, it was like pulling teeth to get this out of him and in case he reads this, love you babe. :)] I got to share a few bites of it and I found it quite good. Kind of wish I had ordered it myself. But alas, I went with the chicken lo mein:

I was so excited about this dish, I love lo mein and I really wanted to like it but it just wasn't great. The noodles and veggies in and of themselves were good which would have been fantastic if this had been a veggie lo mein. The chicken was awful. The only seasoning on it seemed to be salt because that was all I could taste. I ate around it and really enjoyed the noodles and veggies but the chicken was a real disappointment.

For dessert we settled on the brownie sundae for two:

We took our spoons and dug in. First bite *crunch* :scared1:

Ok, so it wasn't scary or gross, just unexpected. The menu didn't indicate that the brownie had walnuts in it, and not just like one or two walnuts, a lot of walnuts. I guess maybe I should have expected that. The brownie was warm and delicious but it was just kind of a hassle picking out the nuts. The ice cream and toppings in the sundae were also very good. Overall, we had such a great first day at the Animal Kingdom that the little missteps in our meal weren't going to ruin our day.

I would rate Yak & Yeti a 6.5/10. I'm glad we tried it but we will most likely not be returning in the near future.

Coming up...comments on the African Coolpost and Le Cellier w/pics!

Please feel free to leave any comments or questions.

I am excited about your dining report - I am addicted to these things! Looking forward to more!! popcorn::

Thanks for the reviews, looks like you had a fun time at Yak & Yeti, the liquid app certainly looked good. :)

The sweet and sour looks good. Never ate there. Man, that drink looks like it lasts forever. If I drank that I could have just floated out without dinner.

Good evening everyone. Just want to thank everybody for reading and posting, didn't think I'd get that much interest :goodvibes so it's exciting.

Before we dive in to the ridiculous deliciousness that is Le Cellier I wanted to comment quickly on the Africa Coolpost. There is nothing particularly special about it. They have soda, soft serve, water, frozen cokes and hot dogs but we really enjoyed the little seating area across the way it was a very nice spot to take a load off and people watch. We had never stopped here and we really enjoyed it. Maybe it just felt nice because we rarely just stop and relax when we're at WDW.

We arrived in Canada well ahead of our ADR time. This happened a lot during this trip, people must have mistaken us for overly punctual people :lmao:

After killing some time around the pavilion and witnessing a pair of boots in a small pool towards the top of the waterfall

Weird huh?

We made our way down and were seated withing ten minutes of arriving in one of those tables right in the middle of the room.

Our server was very attentive and friendly. He skipped the spiel of where each bread was from and we were totally ok with that. The restaurant was busy but the service was great. He even offered to take our picture after seeing the camera on the table which was very nice of him.

We ordered cokes and I started out with the Cheddar Cheese Soup:

If this was all they served here, I would still trample my own grandmother to get in. Ok, maybe not to that extreme ;) but it was delicious. Creamy and rich, as usual. Anthony apparently forgot why he disliked it and decided to try a bit of mine then he quickly remembered. The soup is just a little too rich for some folks.

For entrees I ordered the mushroom filet with cream cheese mashed instead of the risotto because if there's something I like more than the cheddar cheese soup, it's the cream cheese mashed.

The potatoes were out of this world. I could have eaten an entire bowl of them. The steak was just as delicious. Well seasoned, perfectly cooked.

Anthony ordered the same thing, except with no sauce, and no potatoes or risotto. I didn't take a picture of it because I think we all know what a lonely piece of steak looks like, I hope :rotfl:

For a side Anthony ordered the baked macaroni and cheese.

Anthony's meal didn't go as well as mine. From his impression of the food it sounds like we ate at two different places. He felt his steak was kind of tough and that it tasted like his mom made it at home in a pan with some random seasonings. He also did not care for the mac and cheese as it had the same strong taste that the cheddar cheese soup had. But don't fret, it did not go to waste. I usually seagull his leftovers, sometimes before they actually become leftovers:rotfl2: so the mac and cheese was indeed consumed that night.

Moving on to dessert Anthony ordered the Campfire S'Mores

He really enjoyed the bottom half of the dessert but passed on the marshmallow covered sprinkles. Seagull to the rescue! ::yes:: I had tried them last trip and they were really tasty. Not so much this time. They tasted stale and weird. Oh well, I guess I would just have to console my with the maple crème brûlée:rolleyes:

This is my second favorite dessert ever, even though the dishwater gray color of it throws me off a bit at first, the taste is out of this world.

Le Cellier continues to be my favorite restaurant at WDW, Anthony claims to have soured on it some what. My personal rating would be 9/10. Whether will return on the next trip remains to be seen.

Tune in next time for Teppan Edo...no pics...booooo

Just caught up on your reviews. They are terrific! Can't wait to hear the rest.

I want that liquid appetizer!! I've been making a list of drinks I want to try on our trip and this one is definetly being put on it.

Can't wait to read more. Wow, that drink at Yak & Yeti is on my must try list.

It's funny (not really) because while walking right past this restaurant this past January a Seagull literally swiped the food out of a poor little boys mouth.

Great reviews so far, we've never eaten at Le Cellier but are doing DXDP next year so may try and book in for then. Sounds like Yak and Yeti was not worth the ADR though.

Looking forward to more reviews.

:goodvibes:goodvibes You are a girl after my own heart regarding the cheddar cheese soup at LeCellier!! 3 more months til I get to taste it again!! Thanks for helping me get thru until then!! LOL!:lmao:
