Who is going to see The Art of Racing in the Rain?

I'm an avid reader and this is my favorite book of all time. I didn't go into it with any expectations but I fell so hard for Enzo! The writing is brilliant, the story beautiful. I don't avoid movies where the dogs dies as a part of the story (unless it's violent... can't handle it). This book is different, It's about the life of a dog, and unfortunately, dogs don't live as long as humans so it typically involves both their beginning and their end. But Enzo's story is perfection. Dog lovers, don't skip it.

Finally someone one who gets it As I said , initially, looking at the title, I thought no way in heck am I buying this book but when I looked closer I saw a dog and still I thought it had to do with racing which for me is better than a sleeping pill....all you need to do is read the excerpt on Amazon and you will be hooked. As you say, Stein is a brilliant writer and Enzo's expressive thoughts are so en pointe! I guess, we would all hope that it is true much like awakening Snow White with a kiss...it is suspension of disbelief that makes the story in my opinion so heartwarming.

I read the synopsis on Wikipedia, which seems to imply . . .

I went & read the synopsis on Wiki. It doesn't really give much.

I found a much better one. It really does sound like a sweet book/movie. However, still too much of a tearjerker for me.

And according to the book synopsis, it becomes known at the very beginning that the dog is dying & hoping for reincarnation. So, not that much of a spoiler has been released in this thread.

I want to see it but I remember all the tears reading the book, and I'm not sure I want to do that in public. I never went to see Marley and Me for the same reason.

Marley's life and old age mirrored my own dog so much that it was really hard to watch but you know how you feel after a good cleansing cry....that is how I felt, kind of worn out but better able to see things more clearly.

I remember holding off on reading this book because of the title and because I thought it was about a dog.. and racing. Dogs - yes, racing... no. Yes, Denny is a race car driver, but it's not ABOUT racing.

But Enzo had me at hello. His life is remarkable and he loved deeply and was loved deeply. I found his story uplifting, and I absolutely loved the thought of my dogs maybe, secretly, being like Enzo. And I believe they are.

And I did cry. Big tears. But there was as much joy in them as there was sorrow because.. well, because Enzo.

I like to listen to Audiobooks. Well many years ago when Marley & Me first came out, I had an overnight job filing medical records and delivering them throughout the hospital. So I was filing away listening to my book and before you know it I'm crying and filing and hoping no one calls for a file.

I am in WDW now and plan on seeing it at the AMC in Disney Springs the day it comes out and lucky for me, AMC was on Groupon.

Have not read the book, but I am supposed to attend a "pre-screening" tomorrow night offered by AARP. I will post my reaction Friday if I make it.

I normally do not go to the theater for movies like this, but my wife had the evening off and it was free. The movie had a good storyline and it kept me engaged. It was humorous, reflective, and emotional. The acting was fine. The music score did a good job of supporting the scenes without being overwhelming. I do not know how true to the source material it was, but will have to read the book now.

I have to say I wish they had chosen someone different than Kevin Costner for the voice when I think of Enzo, I hear a Josh Gad voice not The Body Guard.

I was a little bothered at first using Costner to voice the thoughts of Enzo from the trailer, after seeing the movie it made a little more sense in that an older Enzo is narrating his life's story.

Haven’t seen the movie, our local theater doesn’t have it. I read the book and honestly only thought it was okay. I could have done without the Anika storyline. I enjoyed A Dogs Purpose much much more.

Saw it thurs and absolutely loved it ! (Never read the book)
was familiar with the storyline and thought my kids (8 and 13) might have a hard time with it, but they were fine - everything was handled beautifully!

It’s a shame over 1500 movie theaters have chosen not to show this movie. I thought it was pretty good.
