Who is destashing in 2010?

Sold another book on half.com for 4.50 and another 20 comics for 19.00

It is nice seeing this stuff actually leave the house:cool1:

This week I've gone through the closets and drawers. Threw out four garbage bags of junk!

Ok so this has been going on for awhile now but I hadn't really put it into words...there was the big 'room by room' destash which is almost complete and then there is an ongoing destash (i.e. sending even MORE clothes to Goodwill than the original closet cleanout.)

So, DH is off to goodwill with a bag of clothes today from the 'upkeep' destash and there is only one room left in the major room by room destash.

Starting Wednesday I will be out of commission for several weeks for medical reasons, so my goal is to be down to x number of boxes by then rather than 1 room.

I hope everything will be okay and that you recover quickly!

Thanks. I had thyroid cancer last year and the follow up scan involves going off my replacement thyroid hormone for 2.5 weeks. (plus a really lousy diet.) With no thyroid hormone at all, I'm pretty much useless but hopefully I will finally be able to say that I am cancer free when it's over!

I hope so too. I'll keep you in my thoughts and prayers.

Tried to put away my tools away in the shed from putting new windows in this week. Talk about a fiasco!!!

I tried to organize a bit and got rid of the following:

6 useless screwdrivers bent or dull ends, not good for much

several handfulls of "extra" parts that come with items to be assembled

over a dozen allen wrenches (hex heads) the kind that come with items to be assembled (I already have a assorted hex head tool)

5 gallon bucket of small scrapes of wood that really are not good for anything

one empty paint can?!?! not sure where it came from:confused3

Plus a garbage bag full of papers and cardboard from previos projects

I really need to actually organize more out in the shed and find more "stuff" to get rid of.

Best wishes that all goes smoothly! I have hypothyroid & know how it feels when my meds are off, not taking them at all would be hard. But plan for the happy news to celebrate when it's over!!

After a horrendous June when I barely had time to eat/sleep, much less clean, I have now had 2 weeks of vacation & am ready to jump back into gear. I first have to put the house back together from unpacking - why does it just seem to explode once we get home?

Then I need to catch up from several weeks of neglectful housekeeping & part of that will be to de-clutter some areas that piled up. I want to go through my closet. It's a mess & time to admit even now that I can fit back into some things, I'm just not gonna wear them.

DH & DS are gone all weekend, DD#1 is gone so it's just me & DD#2. She'll have a friend over to keep her busy tomorrow so I plan to do a marathon cleaning. Goal is to have the house back to the best I can get it before classes start back up at the end of August.

Thanks for keeping this thread going! It always re-motivates me to see the updates from everyone & see the thread on the front page. I dream of moving in 2 yrs and am using that to get the house truly de-cluttered. If we move, we can go w/just the stuff we use, if we stay, we won't live with years of clutter that hide around the house.

Helped DS detrash err I mean destash his room. Won't go into the gross details but it is MUCH better! It was so bad his older brother's girlfriend even helped out;)

Every time I think I am at a point where I dont think I have much more, I find a little stash:confused3

Now if I could have the house be CLEANER:rolleyes:

One more bag to goodwill and 3 to consignment. Delivered son's wakeboard and bindings and lifejackets to his house this week!! 4 garbage cans full of junk and paper from the garage. Starting to look organized!!

Have an ARC pickup scheduled for Thursday. I alaready have 1 bag full for them, but hoping to get at least one more to make it worth their time to stop. DH moved everything out of my sewing room this weekend so it could be thoroughly vacuumed, now I need to evaluate everything before I put it back. Right now it is sitting in the middle of the kids' playroom so I can sort through it. Guess I know what my task for today is! The kids are both going through their closets and putting things away today that have gotten shoved in there. I have them convinced that the House Fairy comes and leaves candy on their pillows when she finds an exceptionally clean room (DD still totally believes this, DS8 has questioned it, but doesn't want to outright deny that she might exist just in case it means he stops getting candy!). House Fairy comes about once a month and surprises them while they are out. :)

Thanks for keeping this thread going. It really is inspirational to hear what every one else is doing. Keeps me motivated.

We usually only have 1 trash can at the curb on trash day, and sometimes, with only 1 or 2 bags in it. We recycle EVERYTHING. But today, we had 2 FULL trash cans. That felt great!
Also took 5 things to the post office that I sold on Amazon. Came home to find another item sold. It feels so good to get rid of the stuff, but such a nice bonus when I can make money off the deal!!!

This baby is due in a little over 3 months, so I gotta get moving on the extra bedroom. Wish me luck!

WOW! We are going to Goodwill tomorrow to make a donation. I knew it would be a lot, but I am floored with how much. We are taking a T.V. and exactly 100 pieces of adult clothing. (I know because I counted it and wrote it all down for tax purposes.) I am thrilled to get rid of it and get it out of my house!

Anyone else have great success to report this week?

:thumbsup2 Way to go & great idea to count it up! I don't know exactly but I have two large stacks in my room of outgrown/dated stuff. My closet still needed to be straightened up but now I have room on the shelves & rack.

I also got rid of 2 piles of stuff in the garage on freecycle. Toddler kids outside toys (youngest is 8!) and a box w/denim slipcovers we have not used since we moved 3 yrs ago. I put away some other stuff, threw out some misc. items & have a few items I either need to donate or list on CL.

Unburied the kitchen counter & recycled a bunch of paper trash that had piled up after vacation. I found a big box of papers in the garage & almost the whole thing can be shredded. There is a place by the airport that shreds for free during the day so I'm dropping it off on my way to pick up DD tomorrow.

I am trying to look at stuff and think if I were moving, would I want to pack this? It has helped some. Also, my old favorite suit jacket looks odd now & a bug ate holes in the skirt. It makes no sense to keep stuff I'm not using and have stuff get ruined when others could be putting it to good use. The lady that picked up the toys was so happy & those things had just been sitting in a bag for a few years. Those thoughts are my motivation to only keep what we'll use and distribute the rest for better purposes!

So glad you posted this, it reminded me of something I read yesterday (I think on unclutterer.com)..

If your Ex had it, would you contact them to get it back? :rotfl:

Well thanks to this thread I am motivated again. I made a list of what I want to accomplish in each room. I attacked the small bathroom and cleaned it from top to bottom. I also got rid of everything that my family threw under the cabinets. I don't know why they do this instead of just throwing it away. The trim around the door for some reason is coming lose so DH is going to fix that. Tonight I am moving onto the kitchen. I can't wait to get rid of all the tupperware containers that have no matching lids. My goal is to get every room done before the kids start school. Once they start school we also have soccer. Once soccer is over with it is Halloween, then Thanksgiving, and then Christmas. If I don't get this done before they start school it is not going to get done.

DH and the kids get to tackle the garage. I have done it twice now and for some reason it always ends up back the way it was, so now it is there problem.

I LOVE this thread ~ such inspiration!

I cleaned out our file cabinet yesterday, shredding along the way and got three BIG trash bags full of shred. I can't imagine why I thought it was important to keep some of the stuff I did :confused3 I feel much better and will move on to the closet here in the family room

I destashed a computer desk and grocery shopping bag full of colored paper, markers, colored pencils....last night! Gosh it feels so good having it all out of the house. And it went to a girl who has very little :thumbsup2

ROFL! Love this and will have to add that to my thoughts. Minor setback today, I could not find the name or location of that shredding place. They have local events every so often posted on CL so I'll have to wait til they post another one. At least the box is ready to go & in my trunk now. DH can take it in bags to work but I want it gone at one time if I can.

DH went through his stuff tonight & now my side of the closet is hanging in shame. He got rid of a ton, organized his stuff, even his shoes! There is a nice big pile for Goodwill & I plan to drop it off Friday, or tomorrow if I have time.

I'm w/the op, if it doesn't get done before school starts, it won't get done. The big push is on, school starts for the kids in 2 weeks!
