Who is destashing in 2010?

Ok- here's another reason it is VERY IMPORTANT to destash.

Sorting through the filing cabinet for shred day at the credit union- DH had an 8 year old uncashed paycheck.

He still works there, but I'm guessing we're out of luck. He's going to ask.

That's great! His employer should re-issue the check. I can't imagine they wouldn't. I hope it all works out. That would be a nice unexpected bonus from de-stashing! Let us know how it works out!

My goal today is to donate another large bag to Goodwill.

Yes, they should reissue the check. Then its like a bonus, woohoo!! :thumbsup2

I've reached an impasse. I walk through our still organized but too full basement and can't find anything to part with. I keep thinking our kids are all growing like weeds and will be in dorms and apartments before we can blink and will *need* some of this. I know I know there'll always be stuff. I just can't get myself going anymore and I really hate so much stuff being down there. Oh yes and then I also found more boxes of memories, kids papers, toys, more baby clothes:scared1:

Inspire me y'all, or is this due to the rainy Monday?

I dont know how old your kids are but if college is only a year or so away Id keep the stuff if they are 5 years or more away Id have myself a big ol' garage sale and put the earnings into their college savings!:laundy:

Ohh and if you are getting destashing burn out take a few days off and move onto another project, finsh that and then come back to destashing :cheer2:

I learned my lesson about saving things for when my kids moved out. I had set aside a set of dishes, glasses and some other things. When my oldest son moved out to his own apartment, my mom, my sister and myself had a blast going with him and letting him pick things out for his new place. It was soooo much fun setting him up with things he had chosen for his new life.

I kept those things, because I knew my next son would more than likely be moving into a dorm his freshman year. So there I was, Fall 2009, moving my next baby into his dorm. His dad drove down in a van and brought a dorm fridge and a flat screen tv. Next thing I know, we are all piled in the van (including one of his brand new, met him that day roommates) and off we went to Ikea. Again, we had a blast!

So, I am NOT saving this stuff for another 5 1/2 years. It doesn't cost that much to buy basic stuff, and my sons had a great time picking out their "grown up" stuff!:rotfl:

We priced and cleaned eveything that has not been done for the yard sale this weekend hopefully (weather permitting)!!

We made signs for the larger items.

Tonight need to make the road signs and get money to make change.

I swear this will be my last yard sale, but I said that each of the last two years and I keep finding more "stuff" to get rid of!

Like a PP said, I think these things multiply when we are not looking!!!

I started destashing a few weeks ago and came across a set of DVDs from my son's former Tae Kwan Do school. I was going to pitch them, then it occurred to me to check ebay. Turns out there's a market for these things! I sold the set last week for about $68! Now, if I could just get the winning bidder to pay for them:headache:!

I found 2 empty photo albums. They have been on the closet for over 2 & 1/2 years! Can you imagine!
AND, to add insult to injury, when I got back from Disney, I went out & bought NEW photo albums :rotfl:
So those are in the "Goodwill" bag.
In with the photo albums were some collectables that I think I will put up on eBay. Hopefully, that de-stash will earn me some cash! :hippie:

That is one of the problems with clutter, you buy in multiples because you cannot find what you already have. Not only a waste of space but of monetary resources. I know, I have been guilty of such many times. :goodvibes

In my quest to downsize for a possible move to Florida I am now scanning all of my photo albums into DVD's, complete with voice over explanations and music. I made three copies of each and have them in different places. My Christmas gift to the families, this year, will be the DVD's. It has freed up a couple of shelves of space. You can also photograph and scan some of your favorite possessions that have sentimental value but are no longer needed so you can SEE them without having to dust them when they find a new home.

I have been working on all this for about two years and have made progress but have much further to go. 18 rooms and 33 years has led to a whole lot of clutter. Nature abhors a vacuum ya know.

Slightly Goofy

Got my closets all cleaned out, Goodbye 26W, 24W, 22W, and anything with an X in front of it! I had Lapband in February and now fit in an 18 and L, so they all needed to be purged--10 big bags to my sister, and a bunch of stuff on ebay. Told DD she could have the $$ to use toward her trip deposit for France if she helped me. She did so well with the first batch she is trolling my closet for more--had to explain I needed what I had still because I don't want to buy the next lower size--I like to wait and get a few sizes down before giving up clothing!
Next stop the old phone I just replaced, the zip drive we no longer use and a few other things in the big catch all closet in the family room. Hopefully she can get to $571 before the end of the month!

Well my decluttering got a bit derailed by too much snow this winter and some health issues of my DH. I am now ready to get back on track. I have been reading all your posts to inspire me. Good news is that I have maintained most of my gains in my closet. (was a disaster zone at one point!!). I need an hr or two to just organize a bit and box up more clothing that are too big:cool1: and make room for new smaller stuff! Last weekend I totally cleaned out the refrigerator including taking out the shelves and washing them - it looks great, empty, and organized. Next weekend I am focusing on our office/playroom. There is a small stack of christmas stuff that has not yet found a home. Normally, I make my son go through everything before the holidays to make some room for the new, but did not do that this year and it shows. After that it is on to my son's closet and the closets in our extra bedrooms.

Ok, my first purge report!

First, DH got a promotion and we are moving from CT to MI this summer. This has obviously gotten the de-statshing ball rolling!!

Gave our high chair and three boxes of baby items to a friend who is giving to a family in need.

Big Brothers/Big Sisters of SW CT is coming next week for a pick up of clothing, toys, household goods.

Two garbage bags of broken toys/pieces of toys went into the garbage last week.

My neighbor is taking our toddler swingset, a good friend is taking the toddler pool with slide. Both are the plastic Step2, so in good condition, just don't want to move them.

Going to send SIL two platters I don't use anymore. I think my uncle is going to take one of our two grills (yes, DH wouldn't let my parents get rid of their old grill when they got a new one lol).

Old sheets & towels will go to the animal shelter this week.

Dropped off old phone books at the recycling center yesterday.

Donated two car seats to a police car seat tech who will use them for training purposes only.

I think I"m off to a good start! Just need to do a little every day.

I have started devoting about 10-15 min. daily on our attic. I have been de-stashing and organizing for about a week. I have one small little corner that is showing improvement. Small steps make the job seem less daunting. :)

I am still working on de-stashing and organizing around the house, but the big job has been on my mind too.

Thank you for the inspiration!! I love reading this thread & getting re-motivated when I've been ignoring the clutter for awhile. Our neighborhood has a big 3 day sale each spring & fall. Ours is tomorrow & I just decided today to go ahead & give it another try. I have listed a few of the things I thought would sell easily on CL but most didn't go. Buyers are so flaky & I get frustrated trying to coordinate & wait for responses.

So I decide the possibility of selling stuff for more money was not worth my time & continued clutter so tomorrow it all goes outside. I'm in school & starting summer classes soon so it's just easier to clear it out & be done with it. I'm tired of looking at the piles of stuff in the garage that have been set aside to sell but it's too overwhelming to get them listed. I took pics but got no farther.

I'm trying to keep all of those great de-cluttering comments in my head - it's not worth the storage to hang onto them, forget what you paid, get it gone, type stuff! DD is getting my dad's old car this summer so it'd be nice to have more garage space cleared out before fall. I'm feeling ruthless & plan to scour the house tonight for more clutter to kick out!

Well my school districy had a snow day today, so I did not have to go to work!!!

Anyway, I listed another batch of comics today and promtly sold 27 for 66.00

Also, cleaned and priced a keyboard for the yard sale this weekend.

Now I am looking for more things to put in the yard sale!!!!

Slow but sure progress here. Kitchen is done, living, dining room, foyer, laundry room and 2 of 3 kids rooms. Master bath and kids bath are fine too. Next is my closet, but I'm doing this the flylady way- 15 minutes at a time. Keep it up everyone!

Ok, so I know I posted earlier that we had paused on our destashing because our floors were being installed. As of today all floors are in and our upstairs carpet was cleaned so it now looks spotless! :cool1: We made three consecutive trips to goodwill this afternoon and hauled over a couch, loveseat and recliner. An old entertainment system that we used for our old and now gone 65in rear projection TV. DH upgraded to an LED 55in after the first of the year. We also hauled over an old step2 pool that went to a climbing slide we no longer have. One less big thing in our garage taking space! Because our garage looks :scared1:

We are now going room to room and repainting the walls. After 7 years they really need some sprucing up and we had juggled bedrooms and put the boys together in the biggest bedroom and the girls in the other two bedrooms. No way are DH and I giving up our master suite:cloud9: So we removed the blue baseball themed walls and painted our oldest DD's walls, now we are doing youngest DD's walls a pale yellow to offset all the pink. We are wanting to buy the boys captains beds but are finding it hard to find true captains beds with storage headboards and underbed storage/drawers. With all this destashing we are doing I really need to work on the boys space, they are so sloppy :headache:

So glad to hear that so many are still chugging along. I always watch those hoarding shows. The one on A&E and the new one on TLC. They usually give me inspiration to get off my butt and get moving. I've kinda lost some momentum lately - and we are currently maintaining what we have done. But really haven't had the energy to do a whole lot more... :/

Everything is ready (cleaned and priced) for the yard sale tomorrow. Just need to set up the tables and organize the "stuff" first thing in the morning before the "early birds" show up!!!

Signs are ready to be put up in th emorning as well. can't wait to be rid of all of this stuff.

My local donation places are very picky on what they take and when they take it that it is almost random timing when trying to bring them things.

So it is all left for the yard sale/free pile at the end/or the landfill on what ever is still out there on garbage day.

Here is to hopng that a vast majority of this stuff gets sold so I can get more money for my 2011 WDW trip (2010 is already paid for)!!!

Good luck on your sale today! :thumbsup2 And congrats on the two trips!

I spent so much time cleaning out and organizing ONE, yes ONE shelf of the hall closet last night. It was a mixture of everything from ace bandages to motrin to shoe polish...just a huge mess. I threw away two grocery bags of trash and I organized what was left into separate piles. Then I went shopping in my own house. I knew I needed bins for each of those piles, so I looked around my house for containers of those sizes that were not being fully utilized. Tada! I only need to go buy one container this morning and have the double benefit of having destashed those other containers from the other rooms. Yay!

Excited to hear how your yard sale went! We are having T-storms all this afternoon into tomorrow but were lucky enough to get a break in the rain from last nights storms to go to our son's baseball game :goodvibes
