Who is destashing in 2010?

I destashed by listing 15 items on eBay, 1 didn't sell, one I withdrew (ski suit, after listing I found a big stain on it that I couldn't get off, will just give it to charity), 11 out of the 13 are shipped out and after shipping fees I now have $470 from buyers in my Paypal account!

Some of that will go for eBay fees and for several of the auctions I did a 10% charity donation thru eBay but whatever profit I made is much better than having the stuff just hanging around in the garage and closets!

I'd forgotten what a chore it is to pack and ship items, specially when some of them are odd shapes (like skis) that need custom packaging. Still, I had a big stash of cardboard & packing material that I'd saved for whenever I eventually put these items on eBay so that's more stuff out of the house as well.

That's awesome!! Way to go!! I have some stuff to list too, your post is very motivating!!

I was able to condense the medicine down to one shelf. I thought I had been keeping up w/exp. dates but still had a lot of stuff to throw out. Still waiting for DH to put the boxes in the attic, definitely tomorrow! Since we are putting all of them in the attic this year, I will have more garage shelves to fill w/stuff from the floor. Then hopefully it will be cleared & organized too.

I put away a basket of laundry this am & made the beds so we are still maintaining the upstairs. Baths are clean & the floor looks good! The basement also looks good except for my photo closets. I still struggle w/misc. stuff piling up in the kitchen.

DD's birthday party is next weekend so that's motivation to keep it nice! I don't know what I will do with myself if I don't have to rush around the day of throwing stuff in hiding spots. :scared1::banana:

my dad was nice enough to come over this afternoon and put on my knobs/drawer pulls in my kitchen... in the process I cleaned out my two "junk drawers" and condensed them into one! I threw out a ton of sauces, ketchups, etc. from fast food.

Earlier this week I destashed all the computer software. I was just going to toss it all but DH took it over to half priced books and they gave him $15 for it. :thumbsup2

I also destashed a ton of just 'stuff' in our room. There is a bag to take to goodwill and then DH took a big bag to work and let everyone pick through and take what they wanted. Surprisingly everything was gone in just one day.

Dh went through his side of the room and managed to destash enough to clear a couple shelves which is huge for him.

I'm going to go through my books and get rid of some. Normally I'm a hoarder when it comes to books but I'm trying to get away from that. But just the books I'm not going to read or that are in terrible condition.

I need to go through the kids' books and pull out all the baby/toddler/board books and donate those.

So that's my goal/plan for the rest of the weekend. Books, books, books! And maybe some paper if I'm feeling up to it. I'm supposed to be making those fleece blankets for the Disney day thing but I can't get motivated right now. I did get the fleece all set out on my bed but that isn't going to get those blankets made! LOL

There is still more in the garage that needs to go but the weather has been so bad and it's so cold that those things will simply have to wait.

Destashed my freezer on my side by side!! Amazing how much room there is in there now. Have things listed on Ebay. Am going to begin with my tree tonight. It is sad to take it down but also another reason to organize. Tomorrow I am taking all the framed family pictures and hanging them in our family room. Seems like the right place. Would love them in my stairwell but it is hard to get a ladder to fit and would prefer not to go to the emergency room this weekend. Did 3 shelves of paperwork in my classroom on Friday before I left. Took 45 minutes and I found info from 1996!!! Ok , not allot but wow. I have room for all my books now with space to spare!! Love it.

To people with magazines ( recent back to 6months) I blacken out my address and give them to the battered women's shelter or the homeless shelter. It is a luxury that they can not afford and I would just recycle. Good for all.

last weekend I took all the Christmas stuff down, and got the Christmas tubs out in the basement and took everything down there, but today had to do the yucky task of boxing it all up in the tubs and organizing it and putting it away. It was NO fun but I'm glad that's all over until next year!

Great thread!

I have been going through closets and packing up things to take to the thrift shop. DH and I took 4 bags over the other day. Since we don't have a car, we need it walk them over. Can't be too big or heavy. It will just take longer but it will be good when it's all done.

Forgot to add that we were able to give some of the books and puzzles to the local school daycare. They were happy to receive them.

You have all inspired me! I dropped off a ton of stuff to Goodwill today! I made some good progress today but still have a ways to go. I can't believe all of the stuff I have accumulated over the years. It felt so good to get rid of so much of it today! On that note, I am absolutely exhausted... Time to go to sleep!

Thanks to all i have started my destashing 2010!!

I spent 2 days cleaning floor to ceiling my master closet in my room. DH cant believe its the same closet and my kids want to now camp out in it. I cant stop sneezing from all the dust...but i started the hall closet too. Fun part is finding things you have been looking for like my DS electric blanket....how on earth can i have lost something so big....well now its on it his bed. I need a breather today to get some fresh air so will pick up again during the week.

I am looking forward to destashing once our Chrsitmas stuff gets put up. Right now I'm waiting on a storage bag for the tree, since the box got left out in the rain on accident. Then I'm going to go through all the rest of our decorations and keep about half. That should make a dent in our storage area, anyway. And hopefully that will get me motivated to work on the rest of the place. We moved recently from a 3 bedroom house to a 2 bedroom apartment and destashed a lot then, but we need to keep working on it. Especially with a new baby now, we need to make room for her things.

Richard Hatch. Pitch it.
I was diagnosed with cancer on the 1st of October. One of the many things that went through my head as I was going through that process was that if my illness had been a more deadly type, someone would have had to go through all my crap. No one would know what was valued and what wasn't.

:thumbsup2

The living room got destashed almost by accident last night, we had surprise company! It has some bigger issues- a large picture that needs to be hung over the stairs, a piece of furniture that needs to be replaced with something else- but mostly the 'stuff' is gone. I was inspired by the poster who said they had cleaned under the kitchen sink, so that's my project for the afternoon.

Finally started to put my Christmas things away.

All nativity sets: done
Angels: done
Garland: done
Disney snowglobes....off to begin ;)

Ok, I've had some other things taking may attention for the last couple days and I am seriously losing steam. I am trying to read some posts here to get some motivation.

The biggest thing I have done wrong is break one of FLylady's big rules - don't take out more than you can put back away when your done working for the day. I have stuff from closets in the kids room, my room, the basement. All sitting waiting for me to come back to it. If someone were to come in right now, they wouldn't realize that it was from "cleaning" it looks like a bomb went off in those rooms. I have to remember to focus in one are at a time and not start somewhere else until i'm done.

Cleaned out under the sofa cusions yesterday. I found 8 batteries from remotes, tons of coins, lots of toys and puzzle peices, enough legos to build a working engine, and a ridiculous amount of crumbs. I kept looking at DH in disbelief, saying "good thing we have that rule in place that the kids aren't allowed to eat in here!" I think I know what goes down when I'm not home.

That's totally me! If I know Roomie will be out of town for a week, I go on an organizing bonanza and end up with things messier than when I started! :lmao:

I decided to go through my flatware and cooking utensils (in three places in the kitchen). Only found 1 item to donate and a couple to throw away - was encouraging to know I actually USE what I have! :thumbsup2

When I picked my my flatware divider tray to clean it, it snapped in two. Time to go buy a new one... :sad2: So now all my forks & knives & spoons are sitting on the kitchen counter until I get to the store today. I'm hoping I'll find something at the dollar store.

Well ... I have been seriously under the weather this last week, so not much has happened. I am on round two of antibiotics and finally starting to feel human again! :thumbsup2 I also returned to work after vacation, so I only have a few hours in the evening to get anything done.
We did manage to get the Christmas tree down, and put away into the basement. Hubby worked on that while I was at work (he's unemployed & looking for a job). Still working on the rest of the Christmas decorations. We are sorting them into Rubbermaid tubs and I am marking them with my labeler. I hope this makes it easier next year to decorate, by bringing up one tub at a time and decorate that room. I do have about two full tubs that I really need to sort through - my mom is downsizing and it's ending up at my house. That's crazy, as I live about 650 miles away. How is she sneaking that stuff in here? :rotfl:
I did clean out my daughter's closet and dresser and came up with about two large boxes of clothes. I had a lady who attended my last yardsale come and buy all of them - so I made about $120.00 on just clothes! :cool1::cool1:
I have a guest bedroom that really is clean and not used much, so I just had my husband move the filing cabinet, the shredder and the boxes of paperwork in there so I have somewhere to work. I plan to put in a couple of hours each week until it is done! I am so tired of drowning in paperwork!
My goal is to have the whole house in order before I get out of school (I am a teacher) so that I can have a couple of killer garage sales to make extra money and so I can enjoy my summer! :yay:
Keep up the good work everyone! It's nice to read up on what everyone is doing! It keeps me inspired!

Under the kitchen sink was much easier than I expected; I did it LAST January and it mostly holds things that are used and replaced.

Working on coupons again now. They are a never-ending project but I can't pass up the savings.

Well ... got all of the indoor Christmas stuff down and put away and put in the basement. Also, sorted through all of the Christmas wrapping paper. I will not buy any more until it is almost used up! I have enough to wrap presents for every family member - including extended family - until the year 2020! :lmao: I sorted through and weeded out the patterns that I really didn't like or will use, and donated them to my church. We can use it for next year for our Christmas family gifts! :thumbsup2
It's a start anyway and I wanted to share. Every little bit will get me closer to my goal! :cool1:

I can relate. I was working on the bedroom closet yesterday and my husband walked in the room and said "Oh my God, what happened?!" I told him it was "gonna get worse before it got better". :rotfl:

I cleaned the cooking utensil crock which led me to clean the cooking utensil drawer which led me to clean the flatware divider which broke.

I cleaned the candle drawer out and consolidated my candles, so I cleaned the kitchen junk drawer and moved the contents to the candle drawer.

I realized if I consolidate all the cooking utensils into the old kitchen junk drawer then I can put the flatware in the old cooking utensil drawer and not have to buy a new flatware divider.

It makes my head hurt just trying to follow this :headache: - poor Roomie is going to be SO confused when she comes home! :rolleyes1

But at least all the flatware and utensils are nice and neat in their own drawers. :goodvibes

And I have 14 items in the giveaway bag for today! :thumbsup2
