Who is Amanda Bynes?

I feel bad for Amanda. I think she must have some sort of mental issues, judging by her recent behavior.

Also feel bad for Lindsey. I think she has mental issues too.

Two young lives that seem to be ruining their own lives.

If it is schizophrenia, then it has nothing to do with her behaviour. It is her brain chemicals that are out of whack. She would be a good poster child for schizophrenia. People are interested in her and what happens to her. With the proper medication, she could be a functioning member of society and an example for other schizophrenics.

I hope you mean poster child to the loved ones & relatives of schizophrenics. The hard part of dealing with schizophrenia is the schizophrenics never think that THEY have a problem. It makes this illness one of the hardest to treat because of that.

If you add in paranoia to the schizophrenia, then you have someone who believes that people are just out to get them by saying they are crazy. They WON'T take their drugs because they think those people are out to get them or control them with the drugs. :(

That can change with some people, don't paint every paranoid schizophrenic with a bleak future. ;)

My MIL is almost 75 and you can talk to her about her schizophrenia now. She is medicated. However, medically she is dropping like a rock due to stage 4 liver disease and is NOT treating her diabetes properly.

Honestly most of the denial I see comes from the family members of the schizophrenic. They are scared to talk with them about it. Which is very common in families. It is a hard thing to accept.:(

My cousin is living in a group home now and he was pretty severe with his schizophrenia and basically not "curable". He is also a danger to children. His family has basically cut him out of their lives. They refused to ever get him help & totally live in denial of his illness.:worried:

I really have no idea why her or Lindsay Lohan are considered news but then again I hate any form of celebrity gossip.

If these people want to live reckless lives and die young go right ahead, I don't care. I find it more pathetic than sad.

I find it very sad. She is clearly very mentally ill and cannot help herself.

I agree - I hope she gets some real mental health care. I really, really liked her in her movies back in the day. It's actually really sad to see this happen.

It sounds like she has a good support system trying to get her the help she needs, so that's half the battle.

But, that is the difference right there. SHE IS MEDICATED.

IF you can get them medicated, (and keep them medicated, then they can see reason. The hard part is getting them to medicate and remain medicated. There are so many triggers that set them off.

I also speak from a place of personal knowledge of witnessing this.

Glad it worked in your situation. And sorry to hear about her health declining in other ways. :(

There supposedly is a new drug coming out in a year or two. They are in clinical studies now. It works on different symptoms of schizophrenia than what is out now. And between the two types of meds, will (hopefully) help schizophrenics back to a more fuller life, out in the world again.

I can't speak for Lindsay, but Amanda is mentally ill. To me, that is sad. I don't think she WANTS to live a reckless life and die young. Up until a few years ago she was a very normal person.

Exactly. I lost a loved one who was a paranoid schizophrenic to health issues related to being out of touch with realty, but she thought she was fine. She didn't think she was trying to ruin her life--she thought WE were trying to ruin her life. I hope Ms. Bynes receives the help she needs.

Then why are you responding to this thread?

I believe this girl is mentally ill. I hope she and all others like her can get the help they need to combat their illness.

Hoping the judge gives her parents conservatorship so that Amanda can ge the help she needs.
There's a huge difference between someone being a screw up and mental illness making them act out.

I think there are different kinds of schizophrenia. My sister discovered she had schizophrenia about five years ago. She sought help for herself. We were having a conversation and she said something like " you know, like when the voices in you head are telling you to do stuff?" And I was like ? What, no. Do you mean like when your thinking? And she was like sort of. And I was like is it your voice you hear or a different voice? And she said well, there's different ones. And I was like, no! You need to see a doctor. That's not normal. And she did and they said it was schizophrenia and they gave her pills and booked her a counsellor every month.

I find it so sad, she was very talented, and I hope she is able to turn things around, and get whatever help she needs. What a Girl Wants is one of my favorite guilty mom pleasures (I have been known to watch it without my dd around).

My DD is 19 and we've been fans of Amanda since All That (Ask Ashley "That's Me), the Amanda Show and all of her movies. And, What a Girl Wants is a favorite of mine and my daughter's also - such an adorable movie, she was so cute and, of course, Colin Firth and Kelly Preston didn't hurt. I also really hope she finds the help and proper treatment and medication she needs.

Another 90's kid here that watched her in her Nick days. I haven't heard much of what's been going on with her recently, just little snippets here and there. That she stopped acting, started acting oddly, and had some legal trouble.

If it's true that she has a mental illness, especially one that major, I don't think it's fair to compare her to people like Lindsey Lohan. LL is a drug addict that thinks she's above the law. She's choosing to be a train wreck. Very different than having an illness and not having control of your mental state/actions.

I hope she gets a correct diagnosis and the help/treatment she needs to get back on her feet and be healthy. It's a good sign, IMO, that her parents are present and fighting for her instead of running to the tabloids to sell "their side" of the story.

She was in a cute 2003 movie, What A Girl Wants, with Colin Firth. She was so beautiful, it is really a shame what is happening to her now.

Oh yea. We threatened her with the grandchildren.

Of course getting arrested always helps right?:headache: She was sending threatening letters to her former co workers when she was in psychosis.

Zyprexa was her savior and finally something she would stay on and turned her into a functioning person.

If Amanda IS schizophrenic, she is probably in a "psychotic state" at the moment, hence the crazy behavior.

My MIL describes her psychotic states in the past as "blank parts of her memories". Like she was in a "black out".

My cousin was so severe and left unmedicated until his 40's. Not sure how he is doing but at least he is in a group home instead of on the streets.

She needs help. I cringe when she is part of some comedians joke. No one would be making fun of her if she had a physical illness. It is obvious she has a mental health issue.

Didn't internet diagnostics claim Britney Spears was schizophrenic a few years ago when she snapped? I think Amanda is probably going through something similar, but luckily without the two children along for the ride. It is very sad to see.

I just missed her Nick shows, but my kids have caught them on the teen nick channel, and they LOVE Ask Ashley. Thanks for teaching my kids to say "Freakin'" about everything!

I'm just guessing, as I don't recall any medical expert of Britney's coming forth with a diagnosis, but, I *think* she had something closer to postpartum psychosis, only without drowning her kids. Or that set off deeper issues, like being bipolar. She started acting more crazy than usual, almost right after her second child was born and she realized her then husband was only around for the gravy train of money & fame.

However, he did seem to straighten out and take custody of the kids. And we haven't heard anything bad on that front.

Then Britney's dad gained conservatorship over her and it took about 3(?) years for Britney come back as "normal."
