Who invited Grandma?? - PTR - Sept. 2008 - 10 People -8 Days and 4 Birthdays *Updated

Alice, you and your sister are cracking me up! I was laughing about the whole Grandma and the husbands story! :rotfl2: Your Grandma sounds like a character! You will have some great stories from this trip!

So it's final, we are driving to Disney.

My never been to Florida, much less Disney, husband insist we drive because he wants to go to the beach and doesn't want to be stuck in Orlando the whole time. So since this is his first trip to Florida I'm going to give up on flying and let him have his way. Still trying to make up for the fact Grandmas going. Who invited Grandma?

So here's our plan:

Thursday I leave St. Louis and drive North (yes I know Florida is southeast) for 2 hours to Quincy, Il where I will pick up my husband. Then we will drive 8 hours southwest (yes that's right drive 8 hours farther away from Florida) to Oklahoma to drop off my four legged kids who can't go to Disney. Shh they don't know.

So you might be wondering why we are driving 8 hours out of the way just to take our dogs somewhere to be watched while we are gone. Why don't we just board them here in St. Louis? Well after planning this trip, one of our dogs has gotten very ill and needs lots of attention and care. Boarding facilities want take dogs who are very ill. So Mom made arrangements for her dog sitter to watch our dogs as well. However, a few weeks ago the dog sitter moved to Vicksburg, MS. So Mom has talked her into returning to OK to watch the dogs while we are at Disney. Hold on there's a catch. Grandma lives in LA across the river from Vicksburg so Mom has talked the dog sitter into picking up Grandma and driving her to OK where she will join up with them and drive to Florida.

This poor women has to spend 8 hours driving from LA to OK with Grandma. Who when she is not snoring is reading every sign you pass, while asking, "Were we supposed to exit there? I think we were, you just missed the exit!" She has caused many relatives to go crazy and have thoughts of driving the car off the nearest cliff just to make it all stop. Mom says she warned her but I doubt it. We are going to have to pay her so much extra money, just to ease the pain.

Ok now I arrive with my dog who foams at the mouth while making these annoying slurping noises, gets sick every few hours, wakes you up every two hours, has to have special food, special water, has to have his noise cleaned several times a day, pills ground up and injected down his throat several times a day, etc... I don't think this poor women knows what she is getting into.

Oh darn, when we will arrive so late we will miss seeing Mom, Dad, and Grandma! They will have already left and be on their way to Disney. I guess this means we want be able to follow them and drive together. Shucks!

Spend the night at their house a leave Friday morning, finally heading southeast to Florida. Plan on driving 11 hours and stopping in Columbus, Ga.

Saturday we get up early and drive 6 hours south to Orlando. Straight down the middle of Flordia. I hope the husband enjoys the views of the coast.

We have to check into our condo at 4. We check out the following Sat. morning and start heading back. We have to get back to OK pick up dogs and be back in Quincy, Il Sunday night so husband can be at work Mon morning. I have to work Mon too, don't worry I can get up at 6 and drive to St. Louis.

So there it is. 5 months later, we know what were doing. No I haven't bought my ponchos! I did, however, buy my fans. I have to go wipe my dogs nose. He has only pucked 4 times so far tonight. Practicing for kids.

So did you know that Sept. 10th is the height of hurricane season? I just learned that from the news. So a storm will be hitting the Florida's east coast around Thursday this week. Ok, a week before our trip, no problem as long as it doesn't do much. Also, it might go north. But, have you heard about Ike!!! Ike will be the week of our trip. As of right now they don't know what path Ike will take. They think it might go the same way as Gustav. Lets hope it doesn't head towards Florida.

Don't worry I'll let all my favorite relatives take refuge in my large condo. Of course someone will have to stay behind with Grandma. We'll let whoever it was that invited her, ride out the storm with her.

There is a reason Disney gives away free dining in September - you may have to swim to the restaurant to eat.

Never fear - Sis did not mention that we grew up on the coast of Texas and went through Alicia (a category 2)when we were kids - when dad would not evacuate and we were a few miles from Galveston Bay on the water and he made us swim out during the eye of the storm to bail the boats out because they were taking on water.

BIL may freak out though! The rest of them all live in tornado alley now and have a storm shelter built into the house.

Rain..rain...and maybe a breeze...

Great report!! Are you sure you don't want to be next to grandma just in case the Dream Team appears?!?
