Who here uses CM's SBC+ for digital scrapping?

I would purchase Kits and also purchase 12 x 12 pre-designed pages. Unless you are going to be doing an 8.5 x 11 book - there is no point in spending the money on this size. As the other posted have stated - you can copy can the 12 x 12 pages into an 8 x 8 format. Also - from what I have seen, the 12 x 12 pre-designed pages are the same as the 8 x 8.

If you decided to purchase any of the CDs with the Digital content - the all contain 8.5 x 11 pre-designed pages.

Also - make sure you take the time to download all of the free-stuff - there are a ton of predesigned pages and you can use the picture configuration and change the background papers and elements.

Here's one more for ya. I've used this one a lot too.... Sometimes I fill some of the blocks with paper instead of pics, etc.....

ok this is going to be a really dumb question but how do you mix templates? do you have to start each "project" separately?

For example I have some of the paid CM disks...all that stuff is there but the free predesigned templates I downloaded aren't. So if I want to use one of those templates w/in a different I'd have to import it separately correct??

And to expand. If I buy the Disney predesigned pages. I really don't own all the seperate elements to use in different layouts do I?? For that I'd have to buy the Disney page kit.

I'm not sure if this answers your question - but you can combine templates by adding a page in a storybook - it will give you an option of choosing any of your pre-designed pages that are the same size as the current storybook. You can also import a page from a different storybook.

It gets confusing because pre-designed templates are just that - this does not give you the papers and elements unless you have purchased the kit too. Most of the paid CM disks have the 8.5 x 11 templates and the coordinating kit.



There have been a couple of times that I have tried to look for papers or elements and realized that I only have the pre-designed pages. The free downloads are all pre-designed templates and not kits.

You can copy the stuff from a predesigned page to use on another page. The pages come with some different things than the kits, too. You just don't get everything you get in the PP's or kits in the predesigned pages.

You will need to open a project in order to start any pages. If you just want to do individual pages, then when you start a new project, choose the size and for the theme, choose "blank pages." But if you are interested in doing a book, then you will need to choose a theme. You can always change the papers, etc., of the cover, but you cannot change the theme of a book once you've been working on it.

And yes, you will have to "import" the pages into the project you are working on. Just go to "add page" and you will be given the choice of any of the pre-designed pages to bring into the project. The only thing that you cannot do is bring another size page into the current document. In order to do that, you will have to save the entire page, then paste it into the new project.

For example, if you have been working in 12x12 and want to bring it to 8x8. First, make sure you have both projects open. Then start by grouping all of the page elements, making sure to "unlock" the background page, otherwise it will not be included. Then copy the grouped page, switch over to the other project, and paste it into a blank page. Fit the pasted page to the new size, then ungroup (if you plan on working on the page more). Just remember that any journaling may have to be fixed since it may be too small to read any smaller.

You can save the pages & elements from the predesigned pages by selecting an element, right click then choose "save selection". Give it a name and it will be saved under "my scrapbooking stuff" in your Creative Memories file. But not everything from the page kits will be there, such as the word art or the stickers. Then you can create a file under "my stuff" on the SBC+ homepage and upload the elements/papers to that. You can then access this file as you would any downloaded product.

I do this with some of the page kits that contain elements on the pre-designed pages that are not in the page kit. That way I won't have to find the element on whatever page it is on and cut and paste it over. I can then chose it from the file, instead. Does that make sense?

I've done two Disney albums using only CM products - with a majority of the pages the Disney stuff - one 11x8-1/2 and the other 12x12. PM me with your email and I'll give you the link for the 11x8-1/2; I've still to upload the 12X12 to be printed (I've just got to proof my journaling). I can get that done real soon if you want to see it. I've been stalling on doing that...

Here are a few pages I did with the CM kits (actually I think the first day are from the Primary kit, not even Disney. That one has nice colors for Disney!)

I think the kits are a great way to start a page. I like to take them and then change them as needed. It just helps the ideas flow for me to have a starting point instead of a blank canvas to work on. Hope that helps!

Yeah - every template (other than the ones that Christy has posted) you will need to recreate for SBC+. It's kind of a pain at first, but after a while you just get used to doing it and get real fast at it, too!

The one thing that I don't think has been mentioned about recreating templates is this: If you choose and object in a template that is askew, and you use the magic wand to remove it from the "background", when you add any paper element to it, it will be placed in straight. So, if you want to have a paper that is tilted, you'll need to add a paper, then resize and tilt it to fit the shape in the template. Does this make sense?

The same works for photos. For Terri's template I had to add the photo, size and tilt it to match. For the smaller photo squares, added them, then used the "layout" tools for spacing, lining up, etc. Once that was done I saved it as a template in a project just for templates & imported it to my Disneyland project. And it was simple to tilt the square pics - just grab the green dot and move it to where you want it. The pic will just stay on the same axis.

The reason is that SBC+ does not recognize the tilt of a extracted "magic wand" shape. It just sees it as an element to be filled. Therefore, if you want the lines on a lined paper to match the tilt on the shape, you'll have to add the page & resize, etc.

Now, did I make that clear as mud, or did you understand it?

FYI -- You can save those pages as .jpgs, upload them to Shutterfly and make a book there for much less than it would cost from CM. The book I did was going to cost me $175 from CM. I couldn't handle that, so I went with Shutterfly and the book came out great! It cost me $95 for the same book from Shutterfly.

I actually tried that and Shutterfly kept giving me a warning that if I printed it that it may print pixelated or something like that??
I didn't want to take a chance of that so I just went thru CM? Is there something I'm missing?

I guess I need to watch the rest of the webinars to see if they cover it. I know once I get into it, it will make sense, just not yet! Thanks for the detailed info!

They don't really cover it in the webinars.... It is a snap to create a template from a LO you have already made.... all you need to do is duplicate your page so you don't save over your original, and then literally turn your elements and papers into shades gray colors. (e.g. click on a paper, click on "color" and change it to gray, click on a ribbon, click on "color" and change it to another shade of gray)... that's it.... then save when you are done... I'd start a Storybook just for templates so they are all organized.

You can also use non CM templates that are out there if they have the .pngs attached... you have to import the .pngs one by one to create the template, but once you do, you can save it and you will have it to reuse in SBC+.... The only templates we can't use are the ones that only have the .psd files because those can only be used with Photoshop programs....

The number one rule is just what you say - Play, play, play. Then ask a lot of questions, participate in the page challenges, try to scraplift other's LO's to see if you can duplicate what they have done. It is simply amazing what I have learned from the wonderful people here on the DIS. Just try to learn one thing at a time, otherwise you will feel overwhelmed.

And read all of the posts in this thread, too. There's a lot of info covered here.
