Is it as good as it looks on the Travel Channel? Also, WHEN is it open, and whats the price to get in? Thanks!

I was there a few years ago and I loved it. To me , it was a mini Disney, but that's not saying it's small. They've added quite a bit since I was there, so it's probably even better.

www.dollywood.com should give you ticket prices.

If you go, could you post about it, please? I love TN and miss going there. (I'm from FL, but live elsewhere now.)

We went last year, not knowing what to expect. We all had a great time. Don't try and compare it to Disney. but it is a beautiful park with some unique rides. We went in the spring and the park wasn't too busy. We were able to enjoy many of the rides over and over.

I could NOT find my Post, had NO IDEA I put it HERE!  Had to search the whole dang board.....

Are there Hotels near by, and where do you fly in at? Knoxville have an Airport?

It may have been moved here, Faith.

I know Buckalew knows a lot about it, several in her family work there and she goes there every year. She quit coming here but if you look up her name, you might be able to send her an email.

I've never been there, I think my son was there about 15 years ago with his grandparents, though.

I'm going to move this to the community board.

I went there 2 1/2 weeks ago. It was the 2nd time I've been there. The first time was about 4 years ago, I liked it ok then. This past time, I didn't really like it too much. We fought yellow jackets the whole time we were there (my SO's niece was with us and she's allergic to them). It wasn't a bad experience, but there wasn't anything there that would make me say "Hey, let's go back." I told my SO on the way home, it definately wasn't WDW.:teeth:

I thought you weren't going back there...:p

LOL. We didn't go near Gatlinburg. I told my SO if he even thought about driving through there, he might as well leave me on the side of the road.;)

We stayed in Townsend.:)

Suuuuure....First you say you'll never go near there, and then you go to at least Pigeon Forge which is like 5-10 miles away from Gatlinburg...Where'd you stay in Townsend??
We always stay at the Best Western Valley View....

I tried to have you come to a TN meet...but....:p ....you said you'd never go back

We stayed at that Best Western.:teeth: Allen likes that hotel, we've stayed there many times in the past.:) I think Buckalew's family used to own it.:)

You should've said you'd meet me at Dollywood.;) The kids saw that special on The Travel Channel that Faith saw. I heard everyday for about 2 weeks how they'd like to go back there again.

Besides, Allen told me if I'd agree to go to a few places I don't want to go, he'd let me have free reign on planning our trip to WDW in November.:teeth: Is Amanda up for a trip to WDW this fall?:teeth:

We were originally gonna go to Disney before Mandy went back to school, but now we're going to go to Gatlinburg the first couple days in November. Hoping to talk her into a Disney trip next year..:o
We might of come to Dollywood had shep con not been going on...:p ..

I love going to Dollywood every christmas. It's decorated so nicely and I like watching the various christmas shows, the 50's show being my favorite.
A couple years ago we took our youth group to gatlinburg and we spent one whole day at dollywood. Those kids were so funny. It's a small enough park that you can have a really good time with a group of kids because you can keep an eye on them without staying right with them. You'll run into them all day long just walking around and yet there's enough stuff to do that our group wasn't ready to go until the park was closing and we got there at opening. Of course you have to stay there a long time if you want to ride the coaster 18 times which is what some of the boys did.

Better question would be how many times have you been to dollywood..

that would be almost 40

I live an hour from Dollywood and have been many times. I even have season passes this year. If you are expecting a smaller version of Disney, you are going to be DISAPPOINTED.

However, it is a wonderful theme park in it's own way. There is a lot of music (think country and gospel here), some shows (typically musicals, they had a Veggie Tales show and a dog talent show this summer), a few thrill rides, county fair type rides, craft demos (glass blowing, etc.), an eagle sanctuary and bird show, Dolly museum, and much more. Check their website for further details.

You can fly into Knoxville's airport (TYS) and Dollywood is about an hours drive. There are tons of hotels in the very touristy area around Dollywood.

It is especially nice to visit in December when they have all the special decorations and Christmas shows.

Peggy

And thanks for the Info guys!;) Browneyes, you wouldn't go back for Nothing?? What if Barry plans a meet there, or something? Than would you go?
