I am trying to see when people have gone and how their stay was at various times of year and if they were in a studio, 1br, 2br or grand villa. How long did you stay? Also, do you own there? Thanks!!! This will help give me some future travel ideas to HHI.

I own 165 HH points. That used to be enough for a 5 night stay during the summer in a 2BR villa. Now that the points have changed I think I will have to add on to get the same 5 night stay - I'm a little bummed.

We are not huge beach people so 5 nights was perfect for us. We could leave home on Sunday morning, drive over and be there in 5 - 6 hours, and have a great vacation.

We always get a 2BR villa, even though there are only three of us. I like having the master bedroom to myself and my daughters like having a bed each. Also, they keep their clutter in their room and I can just shut the door!!!!

We LOVE Hilton Head and try to go every summer. We are skipping this year and going to a Florida beach (Captiva Island) instead, but we will be at HH next year!!

Oh where is Captiva Island?? Do you use your points as an exchange?

We go to HHI every year the 3rd week of August. We do a Sunday to Saturday stay in a 2 bdrm and there are 5 of us (myself, DH, and 3 kids). The weather is really hit or miss that time of year. We have usually lucked out and had great weather just really hot, but last year we had the unfortunate experience of visiting during a hurricane. It was nothing terrible, just rain every stinkin day. I'm hoping it's better this year.

We've been to HHI in February, March, and November. Occassionally we've been in a studio, but HHI "introduced us" to one bedrooms ("Hey, we've got these extra points I almost forgot about-let's try a 1 BR!")so that's usually what we have. We usually stay a week, but last Thanksgiving was 8 nights. We recently bought 50 points there and would have more if I could convince DH!

How is Thanksgiving week?? Our kids (well not our daughter who starts college in late Aug.) have off that M-F of Thanksgiving week. The past two we have gone to WDW. Actually we have made 4 trips to WDW that week over the years. Now she only gets Thanksgiving and Friday off. :sad2:

Thanksgiving at HHI is WONDERFUL (but then, I'm kind of biased-to me, any time at HHI is a great one!). The most memorable thing for me is that on Thanksgiving morning, the resort deep fries turkeys outside and you can smell them all over the resort. On Thanksgiving afternoon, there's a traditional football game for families held on the beach over at the beach house. About a month beforehand, the resort sends a menu for people who'd like to order their meal from the resort delivered to the villa. In addition there are other options on the island for a pre-cooked meal. You can even order one from Piggly Wiggly down the street, or (as we do) from Signe's bakery (hers includes a wide choice of pie slices). And if you want to go out, there are places that have a meal that day. For the football game, there's an activity earlier in the week to decorate t-shirts to wear. In addition to being "Thanksgiving-y" the resort decorates for Christmas that week, and they put up the tree in Big Myrgie's Den. And Shelter Cove looks like this-

Actually, what am I, nuts talking about the joys of HHI at Thanksgiving? No, forget what I said-no one should want to go there then (the resort is always sold out that week).

We went last year the week after labor day in Sept and it was PERFECT! Perfect weather - just hot enough but not oppressive, and it was not crowded at all. We did miss out on some of the summer fun - like fireworks and extra activities, but a fair trade in my opinion.
We did a 2 BR because it was a bit of a last minute trip, and that was all we could get. My understanding is that most of the resort is 2BR's.
We stayed only 2 nights because that is all my husband could get off work for, when we go again I would do 4 nights probably. Saturday points are a killer, so we spent Sat night in Savannah, then headed to the resort on Sunday.
We loved HHI, can't wait to go back! Skipping this year because we have a newborn...

WOW that sounds like a wonderful Thanksgiving. Oh shoot. Our dd only gets Thanksgiving and Friday off and the weekend now that she will be in college. BOOOHOOO.

We own at HHI and actually HHI is the reason we became DVC members to begin with back in 1998.

Since then we have gone just about every year. Most often we tend to be there the day before Memorial Day and stay for 8-9 nights. But once we went in March (a year when Easter fell early) and stayed in a studio just that one time (we had points we had to use up before the end of March. It worked out well but March does not have the weather I prefer when I am at HHI. It was very rainy that year and we could only use the pool a couple of days.

The very first year we went (1998) we went in mid June and it was extremely hot. Way too hot for us and the humidity was off the charts. Since then we have never gone back during the 'usual' summer months. This year we are going in September and it will be the first time for us to have a more 'fall' trip to HHI.

As far as types of rooms we have stayed in...Studio one time, One Bedroom and handful of times when it is just the 3 of us and a Two Bedroom many times when we take family with us. They have all been great but I would recomment the 1-bedroom or 2-bedrooms just for the extra space. In my opinion HHI is not a place I prefer to have a studio just because we are in our room more often than WDW trips.

All I can say is love love love HHI and now after reading some responses here, beginning to think Thanksgiving at HHI would be fantastic...

We've been to DVC at HHI twice - both stays were in studios. Late March (Spring Break) one year and January 1-3 one year. Spring Break we lucked out and got weather in the mid-80's all four days - the pools were great, the beach was WAY too cold (windy and freeeeeezing water) - nobody was out. The day we left the high was in the 50's - so we could have gotten stuck with cold weather very easily.

January was brutally cold. Of course everyone said it had been sunny and mild the week before....:rotfl: Also, Shelter Cove was pretty much a ghost town - so I personally would not want to go ack in January.

The studios are way bigger than anything else in DVC and the couches are queen not double size. HUGE balconies.

We've been to HHI @ a Marriott in July and liked that time of year very much - have tried unsuccessfully to reserve Disney's HHI at 7 months for July. I kinda like my beaches hot and sunny - with the sea breezes, I don't mind (but I am a Florida native that wore a cardigan at night at Vero in June!)

We have only been fortunate enough to visit HHI one time, but I can not wait to go back!!

We visited in May and stayed in a 2Br Villa. The weather was gorgeous, not a drop of rain and warm but not unbearably HOT (I am a Texas girl, though, so others might feel differently)

We are going to try for a fall or Thanksgiving trip the next time we head that way. We are currently living in Nebraska and would love a warm Thanksgiving, or atleast one without snow ...

We have went to Hilton Head at Thanksgiving and absolutely loved it. The weather was very nice. I wouldn't have went out in the ocean to swim, but very nice. I actually liked walking on an empty beach.

However, we had to cancel our trip last Thanksgiving and rescheduled for MLK Jr. weekend in mid-January.

It was 18 DEGREES!!

It was the coldest it had been in 15 years.

Brrrrrrrrrrr.....

As new DVC owners we haven't booked a trip to HHI yet. I guess because we live close enough and have done enough day trips there, that I am like "Eh, HHI, what's so special about HHI?" (I grew up in Savannah).

However, before we were DVC members, we travelled there with friends of ours who are DVC memebers. We went during Spring Break (they along with my husband are school teachers) and stayed for 3 nights in the middle of the week (I think a Monday - Thursday) in a 2 bedroom unit in April 2006. My friend was abel to book it just a month or two in advance -- as he expalined the points thing to us at the time and wanted to MAKE SURE we were coming along.

We had a great time. We still talk about the dolphin curise where we didn't see any dolphins, but did see great multi-million dollar houses from the water. We took advantage of a lot the resort had to offer, and even stayed in one night and played Disney Scence It, which also has an inside joke with us.

It was there that my friends exposed us to the DVC. Last year when we bought in, I pretty much knew how it worked for the most part due to them. Plus they showed us the luxury of a 2 bedroom, which is something I'd love to have on every trip*, but alas we are only a party of three and don't have the points to spend to always stay in a one or two bedroom. I'm currently a SAHM, so when I do go back to work (I am workign on my Master's degree and have a year left), I'll begin my addonitis, at least to gain enough points to perhaps stay in a two bedroom (with guests) or a one bedroom from tiem to time.

*My desire for a two bedroom stay, is for when we take the in-laws. A two bedroom just feels so rich so relaxing and enough space to stay out of each others hair. Also it would show the in-laws that our DVC purchase was worthwhile. Although my FIL is already commenting on the fact that "We (the hubster and I) will get sick of Disney, and why would we want to go every year?

We were there two weeks ago. We stayed in a studio. It was very nice. Next time we want to stay in a one bedroom, so we can cook more. My kids are 9 and 7 and they had a great time, they said they would like to go back some time.

I own at HHI. Our first trip was 1st week of August in a GV, with DH's family. Hot and humid - but considering your in your bathing suit all day - didn't bother us. It rained a couple of evenings around 6 - ?? enough to have to cancel the campfires/sing alongs. but we did get one in.

Second trip was 3rd week of April for NE spring break 2 BR - everyone there was from MA and NY. A little too cold for the beach - cool wind - mind you the water temperature was warmer than we are used to in July in NH. LOL

Third trip was 1st week of August in 2 - 2 BR's. Had DS family along - they like their space therefore no GV. Hot and humid but no rain at all - just the night before we left - when were eating at Old Oyster Factory.

I've been to HHI twice, but it's been several years. Both times were before we joined DVC, and we got fantastic discounts that they were offering to GA residents at the time (I suppose it was to boost off-season occupancy with folks who lived close enough to make quick trips).

In February 2004 we got a 2 BR villa with some friends. We had a great time. It was cold, so we really didn't make it a beach vacation--more of a cozy retreat type of vacation. It was great!

I also went in February 2002 in a 2 BR villa and had a great time then as well.

We really love HHI, but at this point we don't own enough DVC points to vacation there on points. We are considering a cash stay in November for DH's birthday though. :)

We were just there-the first week of June. The crowds were very low since many schools were not out yet. We had a great time!

We just got back two days ago!! This was our third straight summer - once in August and the past two in June. We much prefer June as the one year we did Aug. it was about 100 everyday. This past trip the temps were in the low 90's and the pool and ocean were wonderfully refreshing.

We do own at HHI b/c we like to go during those busy summer months. This past trip we stayed in a grand villa and have now spoiled ourselves completely!! We usually stay in a one bedroom there and next year we anticipate booking a two bedroom.

My DH actually prefers HHI over Disney. Not so say that he doesn't enjoy WDW at all, he does, but HHI is just so much more relaxing for him. We do WDW over Thanksgiving or Christmas and HHI in the summer and we all equally look so forward to them both!
