Who grew up as a military kid?

Air Force "brat" here. I lived in New Hampshire, Georgia and Texas when my Dad was stationed in the U.S. I lived in my mother's home country of the Netherlands whenever he was stationed overseas. We ALMOST ended up living in Thailand!

Anyone else here a military "brat"?

My son is a "Navy Brat", DH has been in the service for 19 years and we have an (almost) 8 year old son. DS was born in Italy and has spend 5 years of his life here.

No, not so lucky. Dad was out of the Air Force after 4 years.

Air Force brat here all throughout the time I was growing up. I lived everywhere! My dad of course got out right after my brother and I graduated from high school. Went to three different high schools. Would never want to put my daughter through that!

Army brat here.

Born in GA while my dad was in Vietnam; lived at Fort Sill, OK, until just before my 6th birthday, then two different places in Germany over three years, Savannah and Hunter Army Air Field for about 1.5 years, then back to northwest GA and my mother's home town while my father finished up his 30 years in Korea and Fort Benning.

Precisely the reason why my DH is retiring now, this way DS is still young enough to get established in a school, make friends and not have to worry about moving.

Army brat. 12 years worth of it. I thought everyone lived the way we did--moving, Dad being gone for his tours in Nam, etc. it was "normal" for us.

I can bounce a quarter on my bed!! I was born in Hawaii,moved to Texas,then NY to 2 different bases,then ,Springfield,and finally landing in Massachusetts. My father did a final tour in Alaska at a remote sight for 18 months without us. That was a tough one.

Navy Brat here! I've lived in louisiana, colorado (Aurora & Colorado Springs), texas, north carolina, Italy, Spain, Portugal, Germany, and sooooooooo many more!

My husband and myself were both Air Force Brats growing up. We were stationed at Nebraska 3x, California, Kansas, Oklahoma, and Illinois. My mom always said she married an Air Force man to see the world (she was from NE), but instead she saw the Midwest . I know a lot of people have a hard time with all the moving but we always looked at it as a new adventure. In fact I get "itchy" if we live in one place for more than 3-4 years. And I am not afraid of new situations or change and I make friends quickly and easily. You know what they say "what does not kill us makes us stronger".

Army Brat--and then--Army Wife

Dad was in for 33 years. I lived in South Dakota, Ft. Knox, Ft. Riley, Wiesbaden Germany, Montgomery AL, Ft. Bragg, Carlisle PA, Schweinfurt germany, Kitzigen Germany, Ft. Irwin CA,


then off the college while parents lived at Ft. McPherson and Hunter Army Airfield GA.

Then married into the Army and went to Fairbanks Alaska, Ft. Benning GA, Ft. Drum NY

I LOVED the life--but am glad to be out and settled.

I went to 3 different High Schools--and did fine--was glad to get to meet so many people and get involved in so many things. Wouldn't Trade a Moment.

Army Brat! My Dad finally retired between my sophomore and junior years in college.

I lived in Missouri, Alaska, Arkansas, Kansas, Italy, Indiana, Texas, Missouri again and then Washington state. I ended up going to 4 different high schools. I would not want to put my kids through so many high school moves (moving when I was younger was fun and exciting). I learned to adapt quickly but it was really tough on me emotionally to always be leaving behind friends.

DH is a Navy Brat so he was used to the same kind of life when he was young but his Dad retired when he was 10.

Navy/Marine brat here! Dad was in the Navy, Mom was a Marine!

Most of the moves made after I was born were on the east coast.

Navy brat, Navy wife, and mother to an Air Force serviceman. As well as Aunt and Daughter in Law to Military! Went to 11 schools in 12 years from coast to coast.

I feel sorry for my son who is a Navy brat. I see so much of a difference between our childhoods. His is always an adjustment not only to a new city and schools, but within the home having dad come and go every 2 weeks and then disappearing for months at a time. I see Nayv families torn apart by this lifestyle and keep telling myself that we would have probably been in the same situation had I not been raised military where you *stick together* no matter what obsticles the military puts in front of you. This moving overseas crap during a 6 month deployment is for the birds.

Tiggerlover.....please remind me that Italy is a wonderful place to live and worth every moment of aggrivation and stress that I have endured alone the last 4 months.

Army brat here. Born at Ft Dix in NJ moved to NY, then Tx, back to NY, Fl, Va then finally retired in FL my Jr. yr of HS.

The kitties are Air Force brats. They've already lived in more states than both sets of their "grandparents" combined.

This is interesting reading - DH is going to be career military and we will be having brats of our own soon.

Navy brat here. Dad was a career Naval officer.

Born in San Diego, CA, moved to Boston, MA (one of the last to live on that base). Then moved to Yokosuka, Japan, then just outside Jacksonville, FL.

Born in Bremerton, WA, moved to San Diego, then to Long Island, then back to San Diego. He divorced my mom when I was ten. We settled in Wyoming.

Marine brat. Thats kind of a scary term isn't it.

I've lived in Swansboro, NC, near camp Lejeune. in VA near the Yorktown base. I'm not sure if that base is still there, Or perhaps what it's used for has changed. it's a really nice area. I've lived briefly in Hawaii and even Okinawa, Japan.

How cool is that!
