Who feels like a Thread-Killer? Part 5

Rose is indeed my best friend

We met when our boys were 6 (now 19)...they played soccer together. Our girls are the same ages too, they were 4 at the time.

At a soccer game one saturday afternoon, Rose and I were sitting next to each other in our lawn chairs watching the boys play and someone had the brilliant idea for Rose and I to become girls scout leaders together. The girls were gonna be daisies (5yr old girl scouts) but the new troop needed leaders. I was naive, I said yes :inserthomealonesmileyhere:

Seven years later Rosee and I were taking that same troop on a Junior Girl Scout trip to Florida...

13 years later we still vacation together. The girls are still girl scouts together (we retired as leaders in 99-2000) the boys still hang together. Both going to college and obsessed with girls/socializing.

Rose was the smart one who during all our travels was buying up time shares all over the east coast...we both reap the benefits of these timeshares as most times she goes away she wants me and my family right there with her.

In October she has a dilemma...the three bedroom house in Florida for a week and only two people to stay in it :scratchin: what am I to do...think I should help her by going?

Rose is a theme park nut too, worse than me...she's the one who plans all my trips, alls I have to do most times is to get my self there. If I go in October it would be a Universal trip...she insists on doing halloween horror nights every year. Cool friend Huh?!?!?

So of course NC is all her idea

We take a couple months each January and into February and root thru all the real estate books looking for the ideal house.

She tells me how much my share will be and I have like seven months to come up with the dough.

This year was a little more difficult but doable, I recently had two trips to Florida in the last seven months - that costs $$. But, as of today, the house is paid for, we have one week left to pack and square away things at home and at work and we're off :boat: seaside for two weeks, relaxing. :cloud9: Hard earned, well worth it...VACATION@!

Colleen, Rose sounds wonderful! I don't have anyone that close to besides family. :p

We didn't do much today. We had to take the boys to the hospital for their school screening today. The base set it up so that all kids attending school this year would need to go to the hospital today for screenings. Can you say busy? Can you say crowded? We were there all day~ :crazy2:

It was so cute when DeVaughn got his eyes checked. The doctor showed him pictures and asked what they were. He said.. Birdie...birthday cake.... airplane.. man riding a horse.. :goodvibes Even that brought tears to my eyes...can you imagine when I send him off to school??? :faint:

 I remember the look on Adrian's face the day I put him on the bus to school for the first time...I have photographic proof of that look...that, Mom, Please, can I go now...look. Such a handsome young face and I was the melted mess.

For Brittany, I walked her into her kindergarden classroom and helped her find her seat...and the kindergarden teacher had to walk me outof the room and say, it's time for you to go now.

They were so grown up to me those days and I was the mushy mom that I still am today.

I love watching their milestones and achievements and watch them grow into the wonderful people that they are today.

You will be so proud, enjoy every moment they give you, one step at a time.

Awfully quiet here today/tonight. :ssst:

We spent most of our day at Kelly's softball picnic. There were so many people/teams at this picnic, I couldn't begin to guess the number. Let's just say that there's about 977 kids total in the baseball program, from t-ball thru 11-12 yos, and all the teams and their families can come. We combined with another team and we had 72 people +. Some families didn't eat with us, but stopped by for a bit. Another mom & I collected $$ from each family and bought all the sides, fruit, pop, water & juice, and I made a LOT of pasta salad, some people brought things from home, we had SO MUCH food (think that'll bring BP outta hiding? :rotfl: - and I've got leftovers!!!!!!). The sponsor for the team we combined with was our local Dairy Queen, and he supplied hot dogs, hamburgers, buns, cheese, condiments, and unlimited Dilly bars, and Stars and Buster bars, all for only $50!!!! For 72 people!! We got a GREAT deal there. He also supplied a tent, so we had some shade. Really nice guy, and his son was on the other team as well. ;) Hence the generosity I think. ::yes:: We ended up giving him $75 (still cheap) since we had $25 left over after shopping. And then, the coaches and assistant's (hubby was an asst.-kinda) they all got $10 gift certificates for Dairy Queen, and each kid got a coupon with their trophy for a free sundae, and then, because I helped, I got coupons for the rest of our family! :mickeybar Can you say ICE CREAM?!?!?! :p (It's a shame I don't like Dairy Queen :sad2: ) There was a jumping jack and dunking tank (never even got over to those), the park has a sprinkler, and the fire dept. came with their hose and had a HUGE sprinkler going on for the kids - we could see it way in the air from across a football field and about 8-10 baseball diamonds. Nice day too. Some people were really hot, but I was comfortable.

After that, we stopped by DBro & DSIL's to find them home already, so I survived my week of fish-sitting, or should I say the FISH survived me fish-sitting. :fish: :rotfl:

Tomorrow I start bird-sitting. :insert bird smilie: :rolleyes2 I suspect some noisy days ahead, as this bird is usually OUT of its cage A LOT at my parent's and will not set one foot out while its here because none of us will handle him. :sad2: UnUh, no way, no how!!

Next week, we've got something every day, again. :rolleyes2

One month til school starts. :sad1: Where has summer gone, and why did it go sooooo fast?! :confused3 :sad2:

Happy Sunday to everyone, lurkers too. ;)

ZJO Threadkillers!

Kim - sounds like a fun time! I love those sort of picnic's but afterwards - I just gotta have a nap! Too bad you don't like DQ - I love it, but I don't eat sugar anymore....mmmmm....Peanut Buster Parfait!

TW - Your friend Rose sounds wonderful. It's neat about the time shares, but by the sound of your friendship - you two would have been happy vacationing in roach-motels.....just to be together. I'm lucky to have that sort of relationship with my sisters.

I have this dilema - I desperately need my hair cut. I usually go to this particular barber (yep, I get my hair cut at a barber). Anyway, she had foot surgery and has been out 4 weeks. Well, she came back, but had to leave because she couldn't stand on her feet. Perfectly reasonable - I can't imagine how painful it was for her.

My problem is - my hair is shaggy - it's been 7 weeks. Robin's seen me, I have SHORT hair and it's touching my ears :insert shudder smilie: and WAY too long.

So.....here's the dilema part. I H-A-T-E getting my haircut and Terri (the barber) makes it fairly bearable for me. Dare I go someplace else and put up with an hour of torture to get rid of the heebie jeebies now? I dunno....I'm tempted to take the scissors to my head. Every time I do that - disaster strikes, but I'm about willing to risk it.

Anyway, I'll let you know how it goes....wish me luck!

Hi everyone. :wave2: I think it's been a slow weekend all around the boards.

Ann, I wouldn't do it yourself. I'd ask your regular lady who she recommends.

Ophie, I didn't cut my own hair - although I've been known to hack at it when it drives me crazy!

I went to...........heck........I can't remember the name of the place. A chain hair cuttery. Anyway, the lady did an okay job. It feel wonderful to have it cut again!

I couldn't ask my barber who she could recommend - she's not working and her shop is closed.

This'll last me for 4 more weeks til she returns feeling better! :cool1:

The boards are a ghost town. It must be nice outside everywhere. Well I know that it is hotter than hell and damnation down in FL. Heat Indexes around 120F. Although Ronnie said that is was 116 true temp there in Kingsburg yesterday.

Hello everyone.. :wave2:

Just got in from the pool... ***SPLASHHHHH** :cool1:

Ann, glad you got your hair cut the way you like it. I am always scared to let anyone cut or mess with my hair.

Colleen, I got goosebumps when you were telling me about your kids. I know I am going to be a mess when I send the baby off to school. :sad1: I'll be lost!!! I know I am a mushy mom because I was the same way with Dante. On his first day of school when he started kindergarden I was full of emotion. I don't know if I was happy, excited, sad, worried....

I watched him run to school ..saying "hurry mama, I'm going to be late" Since we moved we no longer live down the street from the school and now I'm going to be sending them both off in a school bus.. :scared1: I worry about those school bus drivers.

But I feel I will probably end up driving them to school...they are my babies :worried: And the kindergarden teacher will probably have to walk me out of the class too... :o

Wow..sounds like a fun picnic!!

And here is a Congratulations for doing a good job of fish-sitting. :fish: :cheer2: :cheer2: .. Now to tackle the bird... :teeth:

You know, Roger was just talking about how fast this summer is going by... :hyper: I guess we all have been busy...

Yay Kim! Great job on the picnic, I'm sure the kids would gladly take those coupons for DQ off your hands for you and fish-sitting now bird sitting :applause:

My FIL is fish sitting and cat sitting over the two weeks we're gone. He's at his sister's trailer at the jersey shore right now...taking some well deserved time for himself.

He NEVER called off work in 45 years, I'm teaching him to think more of himself since he's moved in with us and he's learning quite well. He told me yesterday before he left that if he's not home tonight to assume he's taking Monday off :cheer2:

Good for him :teeth:

Cally: Be strong, the boys don't want a blubbering mama...you gotta be strong for them until the bus pulls away...then you can blubbler---come blubber here, I have big shoulders.

My friend Rose grew up the youngest of five sisters, sometimes I think I'm the little sister she never had. She's actually 9 years older than me-her hubby is 13 yrs older.

 Hiya Ophie and Tarzanman-Hope your staying cool in this god awful heat :fan waving smiley:

Hi Ann-I still haven't gotten my hair cut, but I've trimmed it twice :ssst:

I guess that's the beauty of long curly thick hair, only the hairdresser can tell when I've been hairdressing myself ;)

I've been popping in and out today...I took some new pics in the yard and uploaded them into my photobucket.

Lurked over on the WPASADI threads...

I detangled the kites and repacked them, did some laundry---only one more last minute washing to do before we leave saturday.

I was wondering if you and Roger would consider SOG over the NYE weekend? My Mom booked us there for after the cruise and they have a mandatory 3 night stay...so we will be there NYE, NYday and go home on the 2nd of Jan.

OoooOoOOoweeee..getting ready for vacation is so fun! :jumping1: :jumping1:

Hey I am going to talk to Roger about NYE..that is a possibility. :cheer2: Hmm..although we may be kind of tight with Christmas just passing us by. We'll see...I am going to mention it to him. He is talking with one of his buddies right now.

Yay for Biltmore Estate Century... :teeth:

Hmmmm, :scratchin I don't think that 'tackling' the bird is what my parents had in mind. :rotfl: Already this bird has displayed it's loneliness, I kid you not. :rolleyes2 DD & I were in the very next room, having left the TV on for the bird , and it starts chirping LOUDLY. I stepped into the doorway, it quiets down almost entirely. I step into the kitchen again, LOUD chirping again. It's pretty funny. :rotfl: It seems to know it's own bedtime too. :confused3 They usually cover the cage at 8pm, and I decided upon 9, when DD goes to bed, and from 8-9 I thought the thing WAS asleep, it was so quiet. :teeth: I understand it also serves as a useful 8am alarm clock tho, too. :p

When Dad dropped the bird off today, we was sporting a new vehicle. A Chevy 'Uplander' I think. Never heard of it before today. :confused3 It's nice, but it has some features that I, personally, would not like. :rolleyes2 To each their own.

HOT! HOT! HOT! here today too. :need sweaty smilie: Just stand in the shade, and SWEAT! :scared:

ophie & BP, I have completed 29 chapters , saving the final one for tomorrow, or later tonight maybe. I hate when they end. :sad1: ophie, question for you....Has there ever been (and I think there must have been) talk that JKR's characters are somewhat Star Wars-ish? i.e. Dumbledore = Obi Wan, Harry = Luke, Voldemort = Darth, Ron = Han Solo, Hermoine = Leia, Death eaters = Stormtroopers, etc? Just wondering. :confused3 I certainly can't be the first one to think this. ;) As always tho, I just LOVE reading about Harry!! :lovestruc

Another busy week begins tomorrow. :sad2: Have fun everyone!!!

Hey, where's Robin? Isn't she due home tonight?
