Oh Robin, you're soo right!! The only saving grace, is that Mom has rescued/found 2 cockatiels before (VERY strange stories - you DON'T want to hear), therefore the reason they even have a cage already. And, last week, at my cousin's house, she really spent some time with their parakeet, I think it was a parakeet, and I could see for myself that Dad was pretty right-on about his choice......this time.

I did tell Dad about the 2 gray and 1 green, so I hope he 'chooses wisely'.

I also baked cupcakes for Mom's BD tomorrow. DD is gonna frost them over at their house tomorrow, since tonight got a little late. And, not that anyone asked, but I got my Mom (& Dad) tickets to see Frankie Avalon in Grease, in October. As well as some Green Bay Packer 'stuff' from the kids.......My Mom, the Cheesehead.....go figure.

P.S. I just found out last week that my Mom doesn't really care for chocolate cake! Strange, huh? Must be where I got it from, ya think? So, yellow cake, with vanilla frosting (blech) that we'll color with food coloring....all different colors! A rainbow!

Lots of BDs right now. Cousin's was yesterday, Mom & Aunt tomorrow, dh's is Wed (50th), other dear cousin is Sat. Nephew was last week. Mamajoan's is 9/6 , Robin's is 9/21 ....busy month!!!

P.S. Joan is gonna be 69 also!!! Small world, huh???? (Let's see if THAT brings Joan out to play!) (excuse me while I )

Good Evening All!

Whew! There is a lot of Birthdays this month!


My family......Oldest DS is the 13th...PA's is the 25th...her Dads would have been the 7th....my DBIL at the farm is the 10th....

plus assorted cousins or in-laws I don't like a whole lot have BD's in September...

while we were awaiting the arrival of DS...i said on many occassions....whatever you do..
...avoid the 13th...I have a cousin that is lower than a snakes belly in a wagon rut in Death Valley whose BD is the 13th...plus...he's a coke-head...

woudn't you know it....the stork dropped the baby off on the 13th....sheesh...

anyway....looks like a young crowd here...and with "Respect Your Elders" our unofficial motto....I'm i like Flynn!

so....i spent some time perusing threads....i have some interesting...albeit quirky...observations....

and NOTE: These are my opinions...and my opinions only...

1. a question on percentage of DIS-ers who actively post...a webmaster posted saying they don't keep track of that number...

ok...BUT...wouldn't they know ABOUT what number of DIS-ers or guests are viewing that causes the "too busy" popups....which appear with an increasing regularity?

2. another increasing item....rude posters...it's shocking!

3. i have to laugh at some postings....if what i read is right....a whole bunch of people here own WDW....not as stockholders apparently...but...the place was built just for them....the rest of us are background scenery....

4. From laughing to aggravation...if some of what i read is true...there are the ultra-self-righteous who wouldn't say poop if they had a mouthful....

they must have the cleanest floors in the world....being swept continuously from the broom stick stuck on their behind they're so uptight.......

5. There is one poster that has to be the neediest recipient of pity I've ever seen or heard about...if my life was a tenth as calamitous....i wouldn't get out of bed....

6. There are some truly talented...wonderfully delightful.....fun & funny.....kind and caring people here....and..I do believe they are the majority....the vast majority!

7. I think there are cliques! No..no...no...it may be so...

8. Despite all the political postings....I don't think either side has converted one person to their candidate...

9. The DIS is THE best Disney related site anywhere..

and 10. Thread-Killers smell the best..

I must say that you have been very observant in your observations of the threads and posters of the DIS boards

There are so many things that are said that I want to reply to but I just shake my head and physically restrain my fingers from typing replies. Lots of rude and obnoxious posts, people who think the whole world revolves around them, and that THEY are always right.

And yes there are lots of wonderful people here who would do anything for you without even a second thought!!! Always there with a kind word or a good idea

Cliques on the DISboards, NAH, I don't think so , do you . But hey, whatever works and keeps everyone happy!! Or at least those of us who are capable of being anything resembling happy.

Thread killers smell the best , well I am not so sure about that one but we are a very friendly, accepting bunch of , pick your favourite!!!!!!! That's us

Bill, I don't have as much time as I used to, but I know of a thread or two of which you speak, and which Robin knows of as well, obviously.

Robin, I RESTRAIN so often, my fingers, and my BRAIN hurt! Nightmares sometimes! But argue, NO WAY! That's NOT what I'm here for. To each their own tho. ALA Community Board!

As for generosity & kindness & giving, there's an abundance here, I know that from personal receipt of same. 3 years ago I had a back to back personal, family hard time...Mom & cousin/Godson both needing the same brain surgeon.... right after 9/11 mind you, and I received the hugest, most sincere outpouring of prayers, thoughts, kindness, pixie dust, and even more prayers, I cried every night reading, and posting updates. This IS a special place.

Cliques?? Geez Louise, how many times do I have to think I'm NOT in ALL the others, and yet, maybe this thread is one, too?? Seriously, when I FIRST joined, I thought the same thing, but in time, when I actually MET IN PERSON these same posters, from around the WORLD, I just realized that some people migrate to the same subject, or type of people they're comfortable with. For example: DO ANY OF YOU POST ON THE POLITICAL THREADS, AT ALL?!?! Well, I wouldn't know, and you could be posting right before/after me, right here. This thread is different in that way, I think. It's about US, and yet, about anyone else who cares to jump in! No opinions necessary, none debated. Friends, always looking to expand it's 'membership'! Just ask Sarah Sunshine! Just wanted to "pop" in and say hello. It's been a looonnnggggg time since I've contributed to this thread but you're always in my thoughts!!
Also, I just wanted to say that I happen to agree with Brer_Papa 's observations on the boards. (How's the weather up there in Erie this morning?) I stayed away from the community board for a long time due to the tone and all the political threads. Good to see some shiny-happy people around here! (I don't know where REM came from, but I'm going with it!)

Kim, I stay away from the political stuff (really have no interest in politics). I once got involved in a discussion on the debate board about confused: I forget exactly) but it was a discussion between the American way and the Canadian way of doing things, I think. It was a great because it was actually funny and never turned nasty.

Hi everyone! I'm back to the land of the living! My body still aches, and I got a bloody nose this morning, but other than that - I'm doing okay. I had to drag myself outta bed to vote anyway!

It looks like we'll get some (or all) of Hurricane Frances. I've been out re-stocking our water and non-perishables just in case. Plus, we needed more batteries. Sheesh, I can't wait til hurricane season is over! Florida has really been hit this year. This will be the fourth hurricane in about a month! Ugh!

Yeah, I agree with your observations on the CB, BrerPapa. I've only posted once on the political board - told everyone to get out and vote for the candidate of their choice - make sure their voice is heard on more than just the DISBoards.

I try not to discuss particular politics - everyone has opinions. While I volunteer with my political party - I haven't said which one on the DISBoards. I'd like to keep my friends no matter who they are!
