Around here it's JUNE BUGS. At night they come out in force and then in the morning they are all laying on their backs dead. It sounds like hail when they hit the windows!!!
We don't have any yet. Now we have tons of frogs(Peepers and tree frogs) back behind our property and they make a lot of noise, I like it though.
Not looking forward to cicadas, I read on that cicada baord that maybe we'll luck out and not get that many since we're new construction.........I can hope, right?
Here's the web site with tons of info- Cicada mania
They are called Palmetto bugs-just a big fancy name for a flying roach!
UGH.
Only have seen one Cicada in No. VA. but they are expected total emmersion this weekend. I'm staying in. My poor son must face the soccer ball and the cicadas alone.
Oh man.. this reminds me of the time back I guess around 89-91. We had some bug thing going on like Cicadas - might have been them.. or Locusts.. anyway...
I was downstairs with my ex husband. We had walked over to the back door to let the dogs back in from doing their business. He was standing behind me when I opened the door. I heard this horrible loud buzzing noise and saw this thing.. this huge BUG coming right for me. I ducked just in time - however my ex wasn't as fortunate. It landed smack on his face on the bridge of his nose. The thing had to be a good 2 inches long - if not bigger...LMAO.
He went running screaming into the back yard.
Thank God once again for all those years of playing video games and my "Nintendo" reflexes
I didn't realize this 'special' version was coming to PA! Normally, we have one of their cousins here in PA every summer. They sing on really hot days. I have found their shells attached to clothes props and the trees. They have never bothered me before BUT depending on how many we get, my opinion of them might drastically change!!

so gross, a cicada wearing a gap shirt.
I like them. We hear them where I live from time to time but seeing them is a whole other story. I finally found one on a tree in my backyard two year ago. They're amazing. So big for a bug.
Some bugs give me the creeps but I wouldn't kill them just to kill them.
Originally posted by catsrule Kitties, doggie, chipmunks love them. If they eat too many they will get sick though. Don't you just love stepping on the shells and hearing the 'crunch'.
They have arrived! They are just, well, nasty! We still don't have too many on our property, but our neighbors are the unlucky ones. There's a house up the street that has wood siding, and well one side of their house is COVERED in the flying creepy things! Yuck!
My youngest daughter is fascinated by them and looks for them everywhere! My oldest daughter's school made an announcement yesterday for the kids NOT to bring anymore Cicadas to school! LOL
