Who else gets terrible aching feet at WDW?

About one month before your trip, start walking around your neighborhood, or local park for about 2 hours a day, that will break you in! :thumbsup2 Also, bring a Heating Pad, that helps with my lower back, legs, and yes, Feet! :thumbsup2 I lay on it as soon as I get back to the room and I am good the next day! :teeth:

I checked out PayLess for their version of Crocs or Airwalks or whatever they’re called. I’m a guy & my store only had women’s versions. Does PayLess even sell men’s Airwalks? If not, where else can I get these types of shoes without spending $40-$50{is that what they cost?} Also, with these Crocs, do you generally where socks or no?

They do sell them. When DH and I bought ours they were buy one get one half price, so we got a great deal. He did not like the clog type, so his look more like a shoe with a back on it. We both love them!!!

Really? I asked the lady at the register if they carried men's & she said no. I guess maybe she meant just that store didn't carry them.

And I would say definitely wear socks. (The wicking ones from Target are really good.) DH didn't like the way his looked with socks. He wore them without and got a couple of blisters. Moleskin fixed him up, and he continued to wear them without socks. I wore mine with socks the entire week, and had no pain or blisters at all.

Wonder if you could find them on the website?

Bright minds think alike. :) I checked out the PayLess website & saw some men’s Airwalk Connect Slings. Does anyone have any reviews on this? I’ve been thinking of getting a pair for Disney. What do you think?

I'm surprised no one has mentioned Danskos. I wore my Oxfords last December to DL and it was like a miracle. My feet didn't hurt, my knees didn't hurt, nothing! They have incredible support in the arch as well as the sides of the feet. They're leather, though, so in hot weather they might be unbearable. We went in November, so it wasn't a problem. I'm considering getting a pair of Dansko sandals for our WDW trip this November.

I'm a fairly big girl, and I know my weight doesn't help with the foot pain. I work so much it's hard to get enough walking exercise, but my DH and I are trying to take as many walks as possible to get us ready.

Amazon.com has them for 29.99 :thumbsup2

I just want to thank everyone for all their input. I will definately put it all to use when I go in September.

When I'm done walking the parks at the end of the day, my feet hurt SO bad. Am I a wimp? Or is this just normal?

I mean, my feet really, really hurt. ;)

ABSOLUTELY!

My feet have always been particularly wimpy. When at WDW, I always stay pumped up on the Advil to take the edge off of the painful feet. By the morning of the second day, my feet hurt so badly that I can barely walk on them, and the pads of my feet are visibly swollen.

This year, Im hoping for the best - as Im bringing my CROCS, But I have a feeling Im gonna get achy feet (not legs, hips, and calves, which Crocs should take care of - but FEET)

Why wont the CROCS work? Not enough shock absorption, IMO. The only times I didnt have achy feet is when I wore my "Herman Munster Flip Flops" You know the ones with the BIIIIIG thick sole? They were, no exaggeration, amazing. Simply amazing. No achy feet (or anything else for that matter)

Unfortunetly - being the slave to fashion I am, I tossed 'em.

But, Im telling you, it's that darn shock that kills me. I must walk like the Stay Puft Marshmallow Man!

One thing I'm actively doing (and this might not apply to most people) is losing weight! I can prepare with walk, after walk, after walk, do all the stretches I want to, but I know from past experience that I just can't stand 12 hours and walk 10 miles comfortably at current weight, regardless of how much training I do or how broken-in my shoes are. So I'm doing all the walking prep and whatnot, but I'm also making sure those feet actually have fewer pounds to carry around come October.

Last trip down, I was just miserable on the last day, with feet so numb that the gf and I skipped a nice dinner at Ohana in exchange for the Contemporary snack bar, because it would require the minimum amount of walking! But the trip before that one, I had a much easier time of it, didn't get so fatigued, didn't have throbbing feet, etc, so I'm trying to get down to that weight. Dr. Scholls gel inserts and well-worn shoes also count too, and I'll try out some foot creme this time.

The Payless Airwalks are for either men or women, both sizes are listed on the bottom of them. Guess it is determined more by color. My son bought some in navy blue, a lighter blue, green and black. At $14.99 a great deal.

I have P.R. also and have been wearing my aircrocs on and off for about 1 month now and have noticed improvement. I am going to add the stretch excersises there were shown here and hope for the best.

my feet always used to hurt.. now I just take Crocs on vacation and they dont hurt at all. Now my legs hurt, my back hurts from all the walking, but my feet could go on and on!!! :)

Hello, Fellow Aching Feet Owners! I always have had foot problems at WDW: blisters, aching feet and aching calves. I agree with the previous posters about peppermint lotion (and a little foot massage by DF when I can convince him! :thumbsup2 )

Two other things I learned here on the disboards are:
Bodyglide (comes in a package like solid deodorant and prevents blisters; I have purchased it but will try it out on our trip in Aug).

and

Keen Newport sandals. I have fallen in love with these sandals for their support and comfort. Don't know how I'll go back to shoes when the weather turns cool! :( Again, haven't worn them at WDW yet but I am hopeful. I will also bring sneakers and moleskin, just in case these products let me down, but I am hopeful that my feet might be better this time.

P.S. I, too, used to get the pedicure before the trip and have realized that was probably not a good idea! Live and learn.....

When I last went, I bought a number of thong sandals. I usually change my shoes every day, so I do not get blister buildup. HOwever, I got a blister the first day at the top of the thong and therefore, couldn't wear any of my shoes. I saw a pair of faux crocs at DTD but I could not bring myself to buying them. I also tried on a pair of NIKE sneakers, but chickened out as well.

My 10yo DS has the same shoe size as me and I tried on his nike sandals. They were perfect! I wore them the entire trip with the exception of dinners.

I can't see wearing plastic shoes or sneakers in 80-100 degree weather, so sandals are the only option for me.

Has anyone worn the Croc knockoffs - Target, Payless - to the parks. Are they as good as the name brand? Were your feet hot or sweaty? Did they hurt? Please let me know thanx!

Well, we’ll see how this works out. I bought myself & my DSS a pair of the PayLess Airwalk Connect Slings. Got a sweet deal too. Regularly $19.99, marked down to $14.99, rang up as $12.99{I guess there’s another deal going on I’m not aware of}, and used my AAA card for an additional 10% off. 2 pair that normally would have cost $40 only cost me $23. I was wearing mine around the house last night to get a feel for them. I love how you can feel the air go through them. I can definitely see how they keep your feet cooler. Plus the big thing I’m looking forward to is when we experience the unavoidable thundershowers each day & the rides like Kali River Rapids where you get soaked. I absolutely hate wet, squishy socks & sneakers. Thanks all!
