Who else finds the value resorts completely unappealing?

I agree. Personally, I think the least appealing resort on WDW property is the GF. It reminds me of an elderly ladies living room.

Hey now, no bashing of the elderly and their living rooms.

I haven't yet stayed at a Value, but if that were my choice b/t onsite and off, I'd choose Pop for sure.

That said, I like a lobby and room service when I'm on vacation. But I think it's nice that Disney offers lots of choices.

although I have bee tempted, hate outside entrances to your rooms

did so one year at POR...It rained every day and we had to walk to our room in total rain,..

Well, back about 5-7 years ago when $'s were tighter than they are now, the All Stars afforded us the opportunity to spend many, many nights each year on-site. For that, I am grateful they were there as an option.

We have so many photos of our daughter at different ages playing on and around all of the icons. During her early years, the All Stars were our home away from home very often.

I find them to be fun and interesting. And there are so many subtle elements (along with the not-so-subtle) to the theming that really require some looking to discover. The All Star Movies resort celebrates Disney in a way no other resort does.

So, no, I can't say I share your distaste for the Value Resorts.

I worl for Department of Buses in NYC. The LAST thing I want to do while on a vacation is ride a bus!!!!

I for one am glad of the opportunity the 'values' afford folks who can not always afford to stay in the more expensive resorts. I am a fan of both the moderate and deluxes...but who would'nt be? This year just happens to be a tight year for our family with medical bills etc.. I wanted to stay deluxe and was hoping we could but it is now out of the question. We have decided on 2 rooms at the Pop...and as we have never stayed value before this will be a new experiance. Though they do indeed look garish....I am training myself to think 'novel' instead. Since its the only way I get to stay on site this year... the Pop, I am sure, will be fine by me and it will be an adventure for sure!

We were watching the Vacation Planning DVD last night, since DH has only seen TWO resorts up-close. When we looked at the profiles on the Value resorts, he turned to me and said "Is this the place where all the masses stay?"

YES, my DH is a WDW Resort SNOB, and he hasn't even been there yet........I've apparently trained him well !!!

Why in the world would I pay $200, $300, or MORE per night to sleep?

I am out the door at 7AM and don't return until it's time to go to sleep at night. I'm awake for about 15 minutes a day in the resort, and that's to use the bathroom and shower.

I'd much rather eat out at expensive restaurants and spend money on the things I'm actually awake to enjoy...

We stayed at ASMovies because it appealed to our kids. We really thought we'd love it. It is a cute hotel for kids to walk through. The service was poor - from housekeeping to front desk. Just a few weeks ago, I stayed at ASMusic. I never felt compelled to stay there - we just needed a cheap place to stay before moving to the Yacht Club. We enjoyed the Music and booked a return trip in October when the new package came out. From the calypso music playing at the pool to the lights on Broadway at night, it was a unique experience that we weren't expecting.

Of course the kids would prefer to stay at the Yacht Club from now on. Who wouldn't? When all 6 of us go to WDW, we need two rooms. Paying for 2 rooms at a deluxe when we spend most of our time running around in the parks is absurd. I can afford to stay deluxe but I can get past the decor of the values. I can't get over spending $700 a night to sleep. I won't stay cheap in any other instance - no Days Inns or Motel 6 for me but at Disney, my money is better spent on 'doing' not 'sleeping.'

We wouldn't stay at value or mod, mainly because of their are no queen beds.
we don't fit comfortably on full beds. When we go to Lake George we book a 2 bedroom cabin that sleeps 6 or 7 for just the 4 of us so we can sleep in separate beds. The only way we can do that is to book 2 rooms on the values.
I also like being close to MK & Epcot, so we stay at the poly & YC/BC.

The value resorts have NEVER appealed to me. Mainly because I think simply the outdoor theming is loud and tacky. I like more laid back and serene places like CSR. I don't know if I will ever stay in one. I'm quite happy w/ the moderates.

You are absolutely correct and that is why there are Disney resorts at every price point. We prefer Deluxes, as they have more of a resort feel (spending time by the pools, room service meals, spa treatments, etc.) which we like to take advantage of while at WDW. Our trips aren't as commando as yours, and obviously, there's nothing wrong with either option. If my family only used the resort to lay their heads and were at the parks from dawn to dusk, we would be right there with you. It's all about how you like to vacation.

I really think it all depends on what's important to you. I know my kids would love to stay at the values for the theming but for us (family of five with small kids) the most important thing to us are 1) convenience of transportations, 2) close proximity to MK 3) relaxing atmosphere. So we stay at deluxes, GF in particular. Does that mean I wouldn't stay at a value - no way. I think it would be fun for a coupld of days (2 rooms of course) but DH is dead set against it. Its funny for a man who used to be a tightwad about vacation he's suddenly turned into Diamond Jim when it comes to resorts!

Stay a night or 2.

For us it had nothing to do with money. When we stayed at ASM Toy Story was the hot movie and my kids were dying to stay with Buzz and Woody, and when my kids seen the pictures of POP they wanted to try that. I personally love WL but also think these large icons at the value resorts are very cute.

You could tour the AllStars, but why not just book a couple days? They're less expensive than POR and the room layouts of the Values are very similar to the Mods (same double beds, outdoor hallways). The only thing you might miss is the quiet walkways of POR. Although we've never stayed Value, I read enough to know that your kids will love the atmosphere of the AllStars.
