Who else finds the value resorts completely unappealing?

My kids were never disappointed at any hotel we stayed at WDW or elsewhere.
If you mean what I said about my grands views, I think what I said was, my grands prefer the values..not that they were disappointed. Just like adults have preferences, so do my grands :goodvibes . We did go over and walk through them on one trip, and I literally saw them "come alive" at the sensory overload LOL.
We were at POP in Feb during the Northeast Break, and we didn't find it anymore crowded than POR was in May. I guess if you prefer deluxes, they may be quieter, but we don't do the deluxes (no interest), so I have no comparison.

its okay for when its really a value rate like $50 per night but this last time I was unable to get a moderate resort and we had to pay rack rate of $110 a night at the POP- wasnt happy with what I paid for at all. Granted the kids enjoyed the layout and pool but for me- I'd rather stay somewhere else.

Since we don't have children, the themeing doesn't interest us at all. Plus the noise factor (I've heard the walls are thin).
We like to treat ourselves on vacation, and the mods and deluxes have the advantage of restaurants, etc.
But I think the strategy of having value resorts is terrific. Families that might not be able to experience Disney "magic" get a chance to be on-site.

We've never stayed at the Values, but I think the kids would probably enjoy the theme/icons more than we would. We like a casual, relaxing feel..hence our love of the CBR.

However, if staying at a value was the only way we could go...or if it were a choice between staying offsite or at a value...I'd be there in a heartbeat and love it ;)

DMRick I wasn't referring to you I meant I've read many posts not just on this thread.

The values are not my favorite but they serve a purpose. When I go to Disney to stay with a bunch of my girlfriends we want cheap and I usually have a room to myself.
I don't mind the large icons.

I think that the values are very nice! Yes, I would rather stay at WL or YC, but I'm sure anybody would! Infact, I'd rather stay at POP then SOG anyday! And POP has nice grounds! I love that you can just walk right out your door and play Twister. I can't say anything about the allstars though, because I was only six when I was there.

Garishness aside, I just really dislike the 'motel' layout. When I'm on vactation, I really like to have a balcony. Additionally, I like to get to my room through a lobby. I don't know why, I've just gotten used to that sort of thing and I like it. And I really dislike having your only window look out onto the walkway that is constantly filled with travelers moving in and out of their rooms, constantly moving by your window. So that rules out the values and I guess the moderates for me.

I second this opinion!! (....which is why it's breaking my heart to have to stay at CBR this year....) :(

I stayed at Pop for 1 night (before checking into the Boardwalk Villas for 5 nights), and it was not a pleasant stay. I use earplugs at night, so it didn't bother me so much. DH & DD, on the otherhand, had a miserable night. Toilets flushing, people running overhead & outside our door, crying children could be heard through the walls...you name it! As I said, it was only one night . . . . but for this family, never again.

I stayed at one of the All Stars and I could put up with the large tacky icons but the rooms!!! Too dark, small, and VERY tacky. We were in one of the farthest buildings too far from the main building. We went into the food court only once. It was too loud and reminded me of a warehouse. If I couldn't afford to stay in a moderate or deluxe, I would stay off property before I would go back to the All Stars. Perhaps POP.

I have a simple rule, if I'm going on vacation, I want the room to equal or surpass my own home. If I'm going to pay, why pay for something below you're own home. Isn't that why we do vactions, to enjoy, spending time in a room that is below how you normally live is not my idea of a vaction.

I know I know...MANY of you simply love those resorts, so this thread isn't for you (I can just see the angry throngs rushing to post in "defense" of these resorts).

The theming, the layout, the GIAGNTIC "icons", are just so unappealing to me in every way. Naturally if I was on a supertight budget, I'd bite the bullet and stay in one, but frankly I think I'd rather save more money and go when I could afford a mod (I love CBR, and POFQ). I think the "icons" look silly personally.

There must be others out there who feel this way. Tiny rooms, kids and crowds and tour groups everywhere. Who else isn't a "value" fan?

Think of it this way..........if this was your third time trying to get to WDW
and there is always a glinch.......(finances, jobs, timing) sometimes you just have to settle with what you can get. This is my third time to WDW,
my 1st since 1980 (79' & 80' stayed at the POLY) But I wanted to make sure that my DS (13) gets there before he's 30. He just so excited.........he said he didn't care where he stayed. :flower:

I have never stayed at a value, so this is just a personal preference. I have thought about staying there now and again when I wanted to save a few $$, but we always end up booking moderates or deluxe. I've read too many posts about thin walls, large groups of kids, loud noise at night etc. We are on vacation to relax and I know I would just get annoyed and not enjoy our trip as much. However, if it was value or nothing, I'd take it...we're not in the room that much anyway! :goodvibes

I am not a huge fan. Of course I would rather stay at moderate but I would go value long before I stay offsite. I would also go value if it could mean a longer vacation (if that is what I want to do for that particular vacation) or if it meant that I couldn't go at all.

Last year we stayed for 49/night and by golly it was a hard price to pass up when we were wanting to stay 9 nights. So we did it. The kids (2 younger boys) loved it. I would stay there again for their sake if they wanted to and think it is cool. They will eventually be out of the house and I can go where I like. I would like to give them - within reason - the vacation they like too.

Next year will be our first taste of deluxe and I am afraid that it is totally going to ruin and spoil me to ever wanting to stay at values.

SURE! I totally understand why you (or anybody) might want to stay at All Star or Pop, I'm just saying it's not for me.

Again, this thread is for those of us who aren't fans of the values. I get that there are those who dont mind it or even love it. Great!

When my sister stayed at ASmu in 2000, she came home with stories of such horror. MASSIVE CROWDS (ok, it was July and we all know WDW is crowded that time of year. But I was at POFQ at the same time and never felt crowded or encroached upon), throngs of kids hoarding the pool/gift shop/food court (there were several tour groups and a few HS marching bands), and teeny tiny rooms.

Add on top of that the fact that the design of the motel (yes...it's a motel to me) looks like somebody's toy chest threw up makes it a resort I'd rather not try. I would definitely try any of the other mods/deluxes etc.

We did Value once (POP) - never again. We didn't sleep! That particular trip we stayed busy in the parks and were at the resort to sleep and shower, and we couldn't even do that with the noise! $50 rate ain't worth no sleep for nights on end.

I'd much rather stay in a nice offsite hotel and have room to stretch my legs, interior hallways, and a peaceful nights sleep than stay value again.

I think they're pretty over the top and motel like to me - not very relaxing and certainly not an escape. To each his own!

When I'm on vacation, I'm on vacation, and the deluxe hotels are my kind of vacation. Regardless of cost in my opinion its worth it. The Boardwalk, Stormalong Bay The WL in general but most off all just walk into the Poly its just the best.

I don't think I could ever stay at any of the values. Maybe if it was a totally unplanned, spur of the moment, trip with cheap airfare and I could get the room for under $50 and I was already holding an AP - I might consider it, but that's the only way - and only during slow times at that so I could avoid the crowds at the resort.
