Who else does not like SOARIN?

I loved Soarin'. Sure it's more Disney than thrill ride, but that's one of the things I enjoyed about it. If all I wanted was roller coasters I'd save a few thousand dollars and go to Six Flags!

If you are a repeat rider, and are looking for a way to punch it up, then try keeping your focus on the focal point of the scene. You'll need to work at it a little because it usually isn't, the dead center of the screen. Keep staring at that point and you will greatly increase the sensation of speed through the different scenes.

Soarin is absolutely AMAZING and anyone who doesnt agree should really give it a second chance! !

I gave it a second chance...sorry, still don't think it's "AMAZING".

It is truly a huge stride in attractions at any park!

While it does provide a different experience than other rides, it's really just a combination of three "technologies" that have been around for a relatively long time...
1-A simulator movie (anyone who has been to Disney knows that this is nothing new),
2-"Smellovision" (not sure how far this goes back, but the use of smells in a themed attraction were used back in the old Horizons attraction at Epcot),
3-The "inverted" seat; ie-your feet dangle. Rollercoasters have been using this concept for a good 15-20 yrs.

So I would call it a "stride" in theme park attractions, but far from a "huge stride". I guess if you ask me the only true stride is bringing an experience that had been reserved for thrill-seekers to the masses.


On to the OP's question. I am in the group of folks who got off saying, "Huh?! That's what everyone is hyping up so much". It was a nice ride, but there are a lot of nice rides at Disney. I heard the term "exhilerating" used to describe this attraction...that's about the last thing that it was to me.

I have been trying to figure out exactly where the hype is coming from (other than WDW marketing, of course ) and the only thing that I can come up with is this...Most people going to WDW are families that either have young kids who can't handle thrill rides, or have family members that just don't like thrill rides. For them, this is about as much thrill as they can handle and this is the first time (other than IMAX or Circlevision) that they have been able to experience the thrill of "flight simulation"...but thrill-seekers have been achieving this for some time.

We loved it. Rode it twice last week. I didn't overanalyze it - it was just plain FUN.
