Who didn't leave their luggage out?

I usually leave out my luggage the night before we disembark, but the last time, I decided to keep mine and take it with me. It was great! I always hated the thought of leaving my luggage outside of my room (I'm just crazy like that - nothing against DCL or any other cruise) and having to find it the next morning (after all, I'd already be in a bad mood because my cruise would be over :teeth: ). Anyway, now that they have those wonderful wheeled suitcases, rolling it off the ship was great! Does anyone else do this, or am I the only crazy one?

Not me. I like just walking off the ship with my self and having a porter get our luggage and wheel it where its going. Well worth the money! Last year he found al the suitcases and packed them into our car trunk for us, life couldn't get any easier than that. 20.00 tip and off he went to find another person.

While we have always left the luggage the last evening, I've noticed that whenever we secure the bags at the terminal and make our way out without a porter assisting, we always get stopped by customs. The porters haven't had to do anything except turn in the forms and breeze by.

We always get a porter at the terminal and have never been stopped by customs, but have seen other without porters get stopped. I know the porter always asks us for the custom form and he gives it to the customs agent and we just show our photo I.D. Breeze right on out of there!!! They are definately worth the tip as they load the car as well!!

I didn't know we had the option! Thanks for letting me know.

I think it would be so much easier to pack our PJs and whatever else in our big suitcases in the morning than have to put it all onto carryons. As well we are going straight to the airport and really do not want to carryon PJs and tolietries onto the plane. I am not sure if security at the airport would like my taking my curling iron on the plane.

So if you can clear this up with me again - how would be get a porter if we are keeping our luggage for the morning to avoid customs??

Also we are on the land/sea package and have the same situation when leaving our resort for the cruise - they want to take our luggage the night before. Do we have the same option here?

This was what makes the boards so great!

If everyone didn't leave the bags out, it would be a nightmare getting off the ship. The reason for leaving the bags out is so that the porters can get the bags outside, and it will make disembarkation eaiser. I have no problems with people keeping their carryone luggage, but huge bags are a pain for others, especially if they try to take them on the escalators, JMHO.

My3...So if you can clear this up with me again - how would be get a porter if we are keeping our luggage for the morning to avoid customs??

You won't be avoiding customs either way, and you will be reunited with your bags that morning. So, you will have the opportunity to "check" additional bags for the flight home that would contain say your curling iron and PJs. There isn't any reason to keep all your bags in the stateroom, now if you only have say 1 bag, you may save a minute or two finding your bags at the terminal, but finding them is no big deal.

I leave my bags outside the room, I don't want to drag them to my last breakfast on board, I want to enjoy my last few moments!. I have never used a porter to take my bags. As far is customs is concerned, I have nothing to hide, so I really don't care.

I've left mine outside the stateroom (with my fingers crossed) like a good soldier. I've also left it to the wee hours of the morning...after the 11PM deadline and discovered a stateroom host roving the corridor collecting luggage to take mine too. Last month I was not through packing when the bags were collected so I called guest services to send someone to collect them...hauling them myself would be hilarious...I've gotten a porter to help collect the bags from the warehouse and the process was so much easier than trying to keep track of carry-ons, dog, and checked bags all together...
I've never waited past 3:00AM to get my bags collected. With all the different ways I've ended up "break the baggage rules" I've not had a problem losing anything and that's a miracle. DCL really knows its stuff!

Agree. 2.000+ people wheeling their bags off the ship sounds like a nightmare.

In answer to the person who wanted to know about the land portion of their stay....DCL/resorts requests you leave your bags outsider your room for pick up because a separate truck takes all the bags to the port. You just get on the bus from WDW to ship with your carry ons....if you take your big suitcases they will get thrown in the bottom of the bus and then you will have to find a porter at the port to take your bags, instead of just walking in the terminal and screening your carry ons. Large suitcases will not fit through the baggage screener at the check in area.

It is much easier to just have DCL pick up your bags at the resort and then you will find them again in your cabin later that day.

And, the morning you get off the ship, imagine what the dining rooms would like with everyone dragging their own big suitcases to breakfast....there is already little room for everyone's carryons that are brought to breakfast (you must be out of your cabin by 8:00 am)....they want you to disembark the ship as soon as you are done breakfast so no time to go back to your room to pick up your suitcases. Plus they prop open all the doors soon after 8:00 am.

All it takes is a bit of organization and planning...we usually change after dinner the last night into whatever clothes we will be wearing off the ship and then just pack our PJ, etc. in our carryons.

I always leave my bag in the hallway because I already have enough to lug off the next day! The hallways can sometimes be a pain to get through on the last day and the dining rooms are already crowded with people having all their carry on bags and bags from the last night I can't imagine what it would be like if we all brought all our suitcases with us as well.

I've always found it so easy to find our bags, but then again we're always one of the last ones off the ship!

Not us..that $20 tip is well worth it for us too. Takes only minutes and we are on our way to the car!

I don't mean to sound cheap here but how many bags did you all have when you gave a $20.00 tip?

We only had four bags and did NOT tip $20.00. I'm embarrassed to say that I think I only gave him $7.00. Please don't flame me as this was our first cruise (16-20 Wonder) and I'll do it right next time. I just thought it was $1.00 or $2.00 per bag which is the same that I give at the airport.

Please advise before our next cruise!!!! (I don't even have one scheduled yet but boy am I embarrassed...he probably thought we were so cheap.)

I find all kinds of advice on these boards. I had 4 checked bags in Dec and gave the porter $20.

The standard tipping is $1.00-$2.00 per bag so you were right on the money....some people tip more, some less, all personal preference!!! Don't feel cheap...you did not stiff anybody!!!

I didn't mean that everyone should keep their luggage with them :guilty: I just wanted to know if anyone, other than me, does this. I didn't bring my luggage to breakfast. Actually, I kept everything in my room and went to BBB. Then, I returned to my room around 7:45, collect my things (one rolling bag and my carry-on - this was a 4 day cruise) and literally walked right off of the ship. I passed the luggage area, showed my customs form at the exit, and walked to the USAIR line to check my bags at the port. It's just me - I wasn't recomending this to anyone else. Just wondering if anyone else does this. :flower:

We had 6 bags....BUT...at the airport they take them and toss them down a shoot, at port checking in they take them and put them on the belt, for those I tip 2.00 per bag. Coming home he gets them off the rack, walks across the parking lot with us and packs them into the car.
Don't be embarrassed, you are not cheap... not tipping at all would get you flamed LOL...

We did land/sea last April - we had to have our luggage ready and near the door of our room (inside the room) by 7 AM I believe, & they were very prompt in picking them up, too. I don't know if there is an option, but I believe I heard someone say the luggage went ahead of us - I know that when I put our carry ons under the bus, there was no other luggage under there.
