We will be at OKW for the 1st time and I was really thinking I want to clean the jacuzzi before we use it (past bad experiences elsewhere). For those of you that do this, what do you use? Are there any ideas for me since we are flying and we won't have a car so it has to fit in our checked luggage. Thank you so much and I can't wait to see your homes!

There's a thread currently active on that very subject. If I can find it I will post the link.

Hmmm.... sounds like a new product to me... "Just one pack of JAZAAM and your unfamiliar jacuzzi is fit for a king!"

here is an site from a long time disers that hasn't posted (well that I have seem) in a long time
http://ttowery.tripod.com/jacuzzi_101.htm

I generally don't do the DVC resorts - but offsite definitely. I have been surprised once how bad it was....

disney the couple of times I did it - got nothing. So I may have wrongly decided that the maids cleaned them.

We should get together and develop that product, we could make millions! Then you could get that add-on to VB! :rotfl2: :rotfl2:

Some folks have reported using the dishwasher powder to clean the Jacuzzi. At home I either use plain bleach or Cascade.

Someone beat you to it Rob, I saw a single use tablet type product especially for cleaning jacuzzi tubs on sale at my local Menards the other day. It would be very easy to pack a couple in a suitcase and just plop one in the tub when you arrive, think I'm going to give them a try.

Wow.......This issue just amazes me. I was reading the other group of postings about the same issue and I did not realize it was such an issue for so many people. I have been to HH at least 15 times, VB 3 times, and OKW and WL at least 8 times and have never run into this issue once with the cleanliness of the tubs.

We have a 2 person Jacuzzi in our home at we use detergent that you put in the diswasher (cascade) and bleach to clean ours. Another idea for those who are opposed to bleach is white vinegar (maybe in store) or Granular Bleach is another idea.

Here is my # 1 idea ! CALL HOUSEKEEPING AND LET THEM DO IT ! :thumbsup2 We are paying big bucks for maintenance and upkeep with our annual dues and they should be doing there jobs and cleaning the units.

I personally have not found the units to be the germ factories that some people have described, however, if you think and dwell on it you will never leave your own home.

My biggest gripe with Disney Housekeeping is they knock on the doors at 8:00 am the day you are checking out even if the "Do Not Disturb Sign" is on. This irritates me beyond belief and ends our vacation on a sour note. HH is the worst one of the resorts to do this. We live in Atlanta so we will sleep in and leave at 11 am instead of getting up first thing. I have called the night before and asked them not to do it. I have asked the front desk. I have spoken to the GM about this issue and it still happens. My solution is to tape a note to the door specifically to housekeeping explaining we are asleep and do not disturb us unless there is an emergency.

One thing, we do before we leave is clean the unit so it is not difficult on housekeeping. We put all the dishes away or in the dishwasher and run it. All sheets are taken off and towels are in tubs. I dont think alot of people do that and leave them a wreck.

Have Fun !

In one paragraph you want Mousekeeping to do their job and in another you admit to doing the dishes, striping the beds and collecting the towels. Patrick you are confusing the Mousekeepers. Next thing you know they will expect all of us to follow your lead. :rotfl2:

Actually, I believe I am being very consisted in my views........I believe one should clean up after themselves if they make a mess. My family views our stays as if we were staying in a condo not a resort hotel. This means we show respect to the housekeeping service by cleaning up our mess. Housekeeping should not have to do our dirty dishes from dinner the night before or take down trash that we have accumulated. This does not mean we scrub showers, toilets, clean windows and vacuum the floors. This allows housekeeping the time to do these items for which they are paid, properly.

If these items are not done correctly then we should pick up the phone and call a housekeeping supervisor to have them corrected. What is so hard with this concept ?? There are people trying to figure out how to bring cleaning products on airlines or how can they stop to purchase bleach and such.

What is next ? Should we bring our own leaf blowers and lawnmowers when landscaping doesn't do their job ?

:rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2: You are funny! The only reason I asked this question was because of a previous female infection I got after using a hotel hottub on our honeymoon...it wasn't disney but I KNOW I don't want to go down that route at disney! My plan is to use either the dish detergent at the resort or have housekeeping bring me a cup of bleach. I really wasn't going to bring cleaning supplies on the plane. Thank you for your honesty and humor. We will definetly have a wonderful vacation and I always do the same things you do before checking out. I think it is because I used to clean hotel rooms :scared1: .

Oh Great....Now your invoking the "infection" word to get us males to shut up! LOL.......

I really wasn't bothered by your post, however, the other thread of people telling the intricate details of what came out of the jets of the tub, how they wash the washing machine before using it, how they wash all the dishes and flatware, Chlorox wipe the phones, door knobs, remote control, etc. Just seems extreme to me and I would say on the edge of obsessive.

I feel bad for the Disney Employees..........Disney Management have built WDW and the resorts to be a Utopia where everything is perfect. When it isn't the Guest get upset quickly. I have to admit to being one of those people who have high expectations from Disney. Mainly because it is what they advertise and because they charge a premium for it.

The parks are no where near the standards that they used to be for cleanliness or maintenance. These are management decisions that Disney have made and not because employees are not doing their job. At the same time, I think society has changed somewhat as well. I think there are many people who don't respect the hard work that others do or they figure since they are paying for a ticket or hotel room they can trash it. I can imagine you have some stories to tell if you were in the business.

I worked for a company that was involved in building theaters. The theaters were beautiful for about a week and completely trashed by the customers. Kids would take knives and cut a whole row of seats. In fact, I was involved in Mickey's Philharmagic Theater at WDW and HK and those poor theaters just took a beating from the guest. It is just a shame.

Have fun on your trip ! I won't even suggest for you to go to the whirlpool at the pool !

Having experienced (thru a training program) being a maid at The Fairmont Hotel I know what I can and should expect from my maidservice. However, since I have never encountered a jacuzzi Im not certain how to clean it.
When I clean my tub at home I put product randomly across the tub then ith scrub brush or scrubby sponge I work from the top edges down, then use a spray or shower to rinse down the tub.

I see ppl mentioning using dish detergent (frankly it didn't occur to me I would need to clean the jacuzzi) and another mentioned a tab. Does this mean I need to fill the tub, drop a tab in. Or put detergent into the jet holes? Do I scrub the entire jacuzzi down??

I HAVE read a bunch of poor reviews on the cleanliness of OKW and this is my first visit so the thought crossed my mind to put a bottle of some bleach type multi purpose cleaner in my suitcase , with a 17 month old I want to know that she will not encounter germs at the villa, I know germs abound at the parks (first hand experience-I visited Celebration Hospital ER I was so sick)

So exactly HOW do you clean it with Cascade and/or bleach and in the jet holes, without having Cascade/bleach residue when I go to get in the tub to use it!??

On a different topic, this was one thing that bothered me a little about DVC, that I will no longer have daily housekeeping services like made beds, etc.

You got an infection on your honeymoon, and you thought it was from the hot tub?!!:happytv: I got one on my honeymoon, too, but we camped out.;)

I'm reading the post here about the cleanliness of the tubs and having to bring personal cleaning products to reclean things. Somehow there is something wrong with this picture in my eyes. Shouldn't this be a really big issue that we as DVC owners should expect and demand? If cleanliness is such an issue for so many, as a whole we should be contacting Disney don't you think and not have to be bringing cleaning products to reclean our rooms with us on vacation? :confused3

This is what I would do.......I would put on my HAZMAT suit (blue is preferable color) and then I would fill the tub up with only Hot water till it covers the jets. I would take a few tablespoons of dishwasher detergent put it in the tub and let it run for about 5 minutes. I would take a few cups of bleach and put it in and run it about 5 more minutes. Drain it and refill and drain.....Remove HAZMAT suit and call EPA saying you have saved humanity......:yay: ........... sorry....I am in a silly mood today !

permission for silliness granted. But REALLY...HOW do I clean it and not have all those chemicals still in the tub when I go to use it?
Or is all this cleaning unneccessary and my jacuzzi will be sparkling and ready to use.....after having read reviews on OKW Im a tad nervous about this cleaning deal. The worst I have encountered at WDW were stained rugs before the renovation at The Contemporary.

Personally.......I have not found it to be a huge deal. However, some people have run into problems on this board. So for your comfort sake......I would go ahead and clean it. If you clean it with the dishwasher detergent followed up with the bleach and a good rinse......I think you will be great shape for the rest of the trip.
