Who all is tempted by DL's 50th celebration?

Wanna go to DL for 50th celebration?

  • Yes! It is really tempting me.

  • Nope! No interest at all.

  • Maybe... Could be neat.

  • Go to DL instead of my precious DVC?!? Are you kidding?!?

Hubby really wants to go and has now got me excited about it as well. (As long as I don't think about getting on that plane...)

Curious how many of us are tempted to go to DL during those eighteen months?

Thoughts too about using your points, renting out or just paying for it separately?

DW and I were just talking about this. After doing DCL in February, we were thinking about a west coast trip later in the year. Of course, an excursion to DL would be a natural! :)

I want to but we have not made up our minds. I was to DL for their 25th and it was a blast and to WDW for their 25th, so really think of goto DL for the 50th would be fun. The only prob is we are going for 2 weeks in May 05 to OKW and anothe week at the end of Nov begin of Dec 05. I don't know if I can get off to drive out to CA for that much time.

The wife really wants to go but I'm not sure I want to make the 10 minute drive. ;)

(Oops, didn't use "DW". May the posting gods forgive me.)

We are, we are. We were planning on cruising again in July 05 so when it was announced that the Magic would go to CA - we said why not, we have done the Eastern and Western so we love a different itinerary - of course, we will miss Castaway Cay. NOW, needless to say, we will be staying an additional three nights in DL. We have booked the Fairfield Inn since we were not sure about staying on-site. If it was more than three nights, we would of stayed at one of the Disneyland hotels and paid cash. We do not have the time to stay longer (worried about summer school, regents test, etc.) (BTW we are a total of three families going). Looking forward to it.

We were hoping to get there next summer, but it's not going to work out. Now we are thinking summer of 2006. I am considering using our points to stay at the DL hotel. I haven't been there since 1993 and I would really like to see all the changes.

We succumbed to temptation. DH and I are joining about 4 other friends and flying out to DL in July of 05. Since a couple of members of our group are DVC members, we thought about using points, but realized it just wasn't a good idea so we will be staying "off site". We were there in 2001 and found a decent place not far from DL that wasn't too pricey and included breakfast! Of course this was during CA's energy crisis and there were some issues with A/C and lights!

Not interested. When my kids get a little bigger we'll make a west coast trip. Maybe in a few years.

We're using our points for 2 days at GC before the 8/13 Mexican Riviera cruise.:bounce: :Pinkbounc :bounce: :Pinkbounc

I am going... prolly a solo or girls trip, since DH isnt interested in flying 4 hours with the kids.

Disneyland was my first park... I love it there. Love it.

We're looking at June 2006, possibly using our points! at DLH for four nights, with 3 days in the parks. We sat down and couldn't figure out a better or sooner time to go. I've been saying if DH was able to get my rear on a plane again to go out there I would have to stay at the GC, but after looking at some pics I think the DLH looks really fun for the kids. They will be 5 and 8 by then! OH MY!!!

starwood, how far out did you book and did you get a confirmation in the mail? I'm worried about getting a ressie since I've heard the Disney owned hotels are really filling up for this. I guess we'll book 11 months out. Amazingly DVC has the better cancellation policy I think. DL hotels have a $100 cancellation fee even if you cancel a day after you book it for this event!
Worst case if we have to cancel even less than a week out we would just have to use our points for a non DVC WDW resort. Sounds OK to me!

It is in our plans for late 2005. Its been a couple of years since we've been out there and we want to go back for the 50th and to see it decorated for the holidays (something we've only seen at WDW).

So tempting in fact that we just decided to go there next November. I'm really excited...I've never been to DL and what a wonderful time to go with all the festivities! :Pinkbounc I know that you can't compare DL to WDW...each has its own personality. But I'm really looking forward to this trip :D !

We'll probably be going in Fall 2005. The fact that we'll be there for the anniversary celebration is just a bonus though. DH is scheduled to attend a conference at the GC, and ds and I are going to tag along. We'll suffer at the parks during the day, while dh is enjoying the conference ;).

I have been telling DH that I want to go to DL for my b-day in May of next year for the 50th so I hope he's gotten the hint by now! (she says with 2x4 in hand ;) ) Being originally from SoCal, I grew up with DL but haven't been back since Christmas '96 so have been looking for the best time to go. Since our WDW APs just expired, it makes sense for our next trip to be out west before we buy new passes (sometimes have to appeal to DH's financial sense). That said, I doubt we'll use our DVC points and just pay for this trip outright (gotta be at the GC though) and save our points for Dec '05 at WDW.

We'll be going twice in 2005 to DL. Some of the family coming to visit from the east coast who have never been to DL want to go. Besides you only have one 50th birthday party.

We're going! DL & I share the same birthdate - but not the same year! I went solo to the 40th & would have gone solo to the 50th if DH hadn't decided to join me. We're paying cash to stay at GC before traveling up to the Bay Area to visit my family.

Like Laurabearz, Disneyland was my first Disney park and I love it.
