Whitney Houston dead

Do Not Ressusitate we had one done for my mother cpr can be brutal and we agreed not to do that to her.

A DNR would have stopped them from even starting CPR - not cause them to stop halfway through (though, I suppose if someone brought them one while they were doing CPR, it might cause them them to stop). I agree though that it is unlikely that she had one.

There are a number of rules used for when to stop CPR - basically ones that show it is clear that the patient is not going to be saved. I know that there were rules for me when I was lifeguarding, but I'm sure that they are different for the EMTs (they have more medical knowledge and they have special equipment).

Seriously? Almost everyone I know has a DNR on file.

Wow really? I don't know any young person with one. Usually just elderly or someone with a terminal illness. But even if you have a DNR, here in S.C. it can be revoked by family. I coubt they stopped CPR because of a DNR though, more likely the decision was made because she was clearly beyond reviving.

Terrible tragedy. Too bad she didn't take the help that she could have had. I feel so bad for her family. I hope she is at peace and that her family bonds together to take care of Bobbi Christina.

As for the body being there so long that is very common. She is a young person that died in an unnatural way. It takes time for everything to get done. They can't just call it and move her out. I doubt the press has anything to do with it. The LAPD could easily set up barriers. The NYPD do it all the time.

Whitney Houston's daughter Bobbi Kristina got into an angry shouting match with police officers outside the hotel room where her mother was found dead ... TMZ has learned.

According to law enforcement sources ... Bobbi Kristina showed up on the 4th floor of the Beverly Hilton several hours after Whitney's death. We're told when officers informed her no one was allowed to see the body -- BK screamed, cursed and demanded to see her mother.

Ultimately, she was not allowed into the room and left. We're told Whitney's cousin Dionne Warwick also showed up later. She too was turned away by officers.

As we reported earlier ... other family members and friends -- who were in the room when authorities arrived

Whitney Houston was one of the best singers of this time. She was given such a wonderful gift. She will always be remembered for the music she produced. Many singers try to copy her but there will only be one Whitney Houston. I know she is in a place singing her heart out with the voice she was blessed with and the demons she battled forever gone. RIP Whitney Houston.

Are you confusing a DNR with a Living Will? If I'm not mistaken- a Living Will is the wish to NOT be placed on life support equipment should one be legally brain dead.... while a DNR means if you "crash" you do not wish any CPR or other means to bring you "back" be performed.

There is a difference in a dnr (do not resuscitate) and an advanced medical directive. Only a md can sign a dnr and they will only do it for terminally ill pts. Anyone can have the directive for no life prolonging procedure. You get that from a lawyer. My understanding once you start resuscitation you can not stop until ordered by a md. The emt would not even start cpr if they could tell she has been dead for awhile.

Why on earth would a healthy person in their 30s or 40s not want to be resuscitated? I find it hard to believe that a doctor would even agree to sign it.

Are you sure you're not thinking of something else?

Agreed.

The only person that I've ever known that had a DNR was dh's grandma. She was in the advanced stages of emphysema (sp?) and had put a DNR in place. She "died" and they brought her back and man, was she ever ticked off! The doctor who ignored the DNR got a real earful from my MIL and then Grandma when she was better enough to do so.

Grandma lived almost another year and was NOT real happy about it.

Back to topic...

Whitney Houston was a beautiful woman with an amazing voice that sadly wasted her gifts. I just don't understand how someone who had that much going for them could fall into the drug trap, but it happens. RIP

Take this for whatever it's worth, TMZ is reporting that she might have OD on Xanax and passed out in the bathtub and drown :(

From the tmz website:

Whitney Houston was found in the bathtub of a Beverly Hills hotel yesterday ... with her face underwater ... people close to Whitney tell TMZ.

According to our sources, her stylist, hairdresser and two bodyguards were among the people in the room at the time. We're told they became worried about Whitney because she had been in the bathroom for over an hour and it was time to start getting ready for the Clive Davis party.

Our sources say they began to knock on the door and there was no answer. We're told the hairdresser, who is female, went in to check on Whitney. She immediately screamed and, according to our sources, one of the bodyguards came running in and pulled her out of the tub.

We're told Whitney's face was below the water and her legs were up ... like she had slid down the back of the tub.

According to our sources, her body was very cold and the bodyguard attempted CPR. That's when hotel security was called.

Paramedics arrived shortly thereafter, but Whitney was pronounced dead at 3:55 PM.

MTE. Regardless of her talent, and she had a lot, she made an active decision to be an addict. It's a horrible way to go but her choice nonetheless. Whether she overdosed or this was a side effect to years of being an addict, doesn't really matter. Very sad for her child. :sad1:

Sad to hear, and passing far to early for her age. I never listened much to her music, but remember her tunes fondly. When I was learning to drive my driving instructor would play a music tape of hers over and over. I didn't mind, I was driving for the first time! It was an exciting time.
