Whitney Houston dead

Whitney was America's darling...Bobby was a bad boy. It's seems easy and logical to shift the blame to him. Ultimately, she was responsible for her actions...she made the choices.

That true but I think he probably got her hooked on them.

Bobby isn't so much a bad boy as a sniveling, abusive, drug pushing creep. Somehow he made her believe she needed him and he took her love and addicted her to drugs. So yeah, she is the ultimate person in control of her life, but no matter what, he's still the lowlife creep that sent her on a down ward spiral to her death.

:thumbsup2

The only thing I would add is that Whitney, similar to Michael Jackson, also managed to surround herself (after her divorce from Bobby) with people that were willing to enable her destructive behaviors. These same people will now be emphatically talking about trying to get her help just like the Jackson siblings did.

I don't know much about drug usage, but I can't image she was so successful and doing drugs like she had been and still been on top

Back before TMZ was filming the every move of every celebrity, there were many who were successful and on drugs. Robert Downey Jr., for one. Elvis was popping pills throughout the 60s. Drew Barrymore has been sober for a long time now but did a lot of drugs. Johnny Cash had well documented problems with drugs. Keith Richards was a heroin addict and the Rolling Stones kept making successful records. Even Daniel Radcliffe has recently said he was drunk for some of the latter Harry Potter films.
These people have handlers who help them manage their stardom and their drug use, often enabling. A decade or so ago you would never know these people were in trouble because their publicity people would never let it get out. Then the gossip technology (the internet) became more invasive, and it's harder for them to keep their secrets.
You can't be so naive as to think every successful singer or actor is going home, working out, drinking vitamin water, and getting 8 hours of sleep.

I don;t think every actor is doing drugs and getting high either. I guess it makes me naive as you say. Then I would rather be naive and assuming every actor/siinger is a druggie

When did Bobby Brown's drug use and run ins with the law start? I know he had that bad boy image because of the type of music he sang, but was he already a heavy drug user when they me? Everyone blames him because she had a well crafted image, the beautiful, classy woman with the exceptional voice.
I know he never had the career Whitney did but his went downhill after he married he also.

Bobby Brown was in a boy band, I don;t think how he got his bad boy rep

Throughout the 1990s and early 2000s, Brown's legal and substance abuse troubles threatened to overshadow his music. Whitney Houston publicly stated that Brown's drug of choice was marijuana laced with cocaine.

This all I could find about his legal issues, I also didn't know Bobby was a few years younger then Whitney, I thought they were close to the same age

They met in 1989 and married in 1992. It sounds like both of their big drug problems started after they got together.

Tmz is reporting Bobby is flying in to be with his daughter.

He had a solo career after he left New Edition. Recording songs like "Humpin' Around" could give someone a bad boy image

After he went solo, he cultivated a bad-boy image based on his music, style of dance, and on-stage provocative antics.

I know this won't be popular but I see nothing to honor right now. This whole situation is sad. I wish we would stop taking these kind of events as a time to honor and idolize and instead, use them as a learning and teaching experience for our kids. Whitney Houston, Michael Jackson, Chris Farley, John Belushi, and on and on. They were great talents but as people were seriously lacking skills and were not people to emulate.

Drugs kill. Drugs will take your life. IMHO, THAT is what we should use these sad events to discuss. Children left behind without parents, families left to pick up the pieces, talent and potential sadly lost. Ms Houston may have made millions with her amazing voice but the damage her drug addiction caused , TO ME, far surpasses any "tribute" imaginable.

Im not disrespecting the dead. I am not bashing her. I am not speaking ill. Im just of the opinion that we do ourselves a disservice by making these celebrities to be something they were not just because they died before their time.

It is sad. Whitney, Michael, (and many others) were amazing talents, although they were very flawed human beings. They shared these exceptional gifts...and will be remembered for them. We honor their achievements and grieve for "what could have been". You can hate the sin, but love the sinner.

I have discussed, the tragedy of addiction, with my DGDs (as recently as last night). I've been involved in "the music scene", my entire life. Many beloved stars were/are addicts and live double lives. Many aren't good role models, but honestly, I've never put them on a pedestal.

Nobody is responsible for their addiction but the addict themselves. No one can get anyone else hooked on drugs. Houston was a grown woman of normal intellectual capability. She chose to use drugs. No one held her down and shoved cocaine up her nose. She chose to use, and with that choice comes the likely chance that you will become addicted. It was her choice to start using drugs, whenever she did start using them, and it was her choice to continue using them.

Many, many people function for a very long time while being actively addicted. As a PP said, there was a time when the media wasn't omni-present, and any interaction with the press was scheduled and controlled by publicists and managers. This is nothing new. Judy Garland, Joan Crawford, etc, etc, etc.

Part of recovery is accepting responsibility. If Houston's death is a result of drug/alcohol use, then she, alone is responsible for her death. It is sad that she had such a gift and she chose to throw it away, but the choice was hers. That is the only tragedy here, that and a young adult who is left without a mother and a mother who has to bury her child.

Wow, that was a beautiful intro & tribute that LL Cool J just paid to Whitney-what a beautiful prayer-very classy and respectful to a music icon :thumbsup2

Bobbi Kristina really needs our prayers. She's understandably having a very difficult time, dealing with her mother's death. The idiots, surrounding her, are helping her cope...by feeding her pills and booze.
