White transfers on black shirts?

Please help! DH has created an awesome disign and we would love to use it on shirts for MK. The problem is, it is a white design we want to put on a black shirt. I know we need to use the dark transfer paper, but we are not sure how to do this withot transferring a black square as well. He made the background transparent, but won't that show up as white?

You will definitely need to use a dark transfer and yes, the transparent background will still be white - as the sheet itself is white.

So your options are to either trim off all the white areas, make the background black or leave the background white and put a border around it to make it easy to cut out.
