White spots on photos

Latly when I use my Canon Power Shot SX10 IS a few white spots show up on most of my photographs . I found a page on the Canon and it's been very helpful, I have altered my flash many times now, but it's still happing on some of my photos. I know a few other people on this board must have this same camera and problem: if anyone knows a better way to correct this problem I would be much obliged to hear it.

Sounds like you might be describing dust illuminated in the flash. Unfortunately sometimes it's not your camera or lens, but the atmosphere...there's dust in the air! The problem with compact cameras is that the flash is very close to the lens, therefore it fires out, bounces off the dust particles, and bounces right back the same direction it came from...since the lens is just millimeters away, it gets to see the reflection too. The farther away the flash gets from the lens, the better the situation...but on a compact, you're sort of stuck!

One idea might be to try to 'bounce' your flash up when shooting indoors, so it bounces off the ceiling and back down to the subject, eliminating that reflection path. Though this only works when fairly close to the subject since compact cams don't have real strong flashes. All you need is a white piece of reflective surface cut into a little rectangle and taped to the camera just under the flash, angled about 45 degrees out. A piece of glossy white film paper works great.

Otherwise, you're probably still going to have to put up with occasional ones getting into the shot...and maybe get some basic editing software that will allow you to 'clone' them out before you print.
