Magic Bands

Magic bands are 100% worth IMO even without the side quests!
I agree. I REALLY hope they aren't leaning towards eliminating them and moving to Apple Watch etc. Saw bands that you attach to your smart watch in Tomorrowland and cringed at the thought of that. I wont ever own a smart watch even for Disney.

I don't think this will happen for multiple reasons. In no particular order, MagicBands are something that Disney can sell, and Disney loves selling stuff, especially things they can market as limited edition/anniversary collectibles. I do not think that Apple Watch (and similar devices) have become common enough that they can assume that at least one person in the group will have them. Also, I think there are many parents that really like the convenience of giving a child/teenager who is too young for a smartphone/apple watch type a MagicBand to scan into the parks or rides.

Disney hopes that using such technology will get guests off of their more intrusive smart devices and allow them to interact more with the humans around them. "Extended reality is gonna reinforce the shared experience. A big differentiator for us is that you’re there together with friends and family and people that you care about, and every time you look have to look down at a device or a phone, it breaks that spell. If you can use extended reality, I never stop looking at the environment I’m in or at the people I’m with, it’s gonna be less disruptive." -- Bruce Vaughn, President and CCO of Walt Disney Imagineering

Pretty bold statement from the company that changed the simple FastPass experience to the current LL experience that requires you to sit on your phone so much of the day. It doesn't look like these smart glasses are meant to change that process.

My understanding is that the glasses will act like guide. I'm not sure if they will let you book reservations for dining or mobile order since those require a credit card and several confirmations to complete the process. If it allows you to book LL, it certainly won't have the ability to fish for new times and modify as quickly as people do on their phones.

I have Meta glasses and, while it can be easier than looking at my phone, I'm talking to myself (or rather, Meta) and no one around me can hear the response. It is especially difficult to hear Meta's response on an attraction or in a noisy area. It could work if one person was trying to find directions, or a place to dine, but I think it would be difficult if it was a group decision. It is similar to Alexa or any other virtual assistant. One person would say "Hey Meta, find a restaurant near me that has dining available at 5 pm." and Meta would reply via the speaker in the temple. The person would need to then tell the rest of the group Meta's response. After a few seconds, the conversation with Meta stops and you need to start a new conversation. The glasses (as well as the charging case) are heavy. Personally, I find them difficult to wear all day at the parks.

I have bands from WDW. Will they work at DLR? I have one of the interactive bands as well as regular ones.

You do not - it can be linked to both. REally, at DL it is linked to tickets I believe, wheras at WDW it is linked to a profile. One will not affect the other.
Mmmm...good to know. I thought I read that they had to be disconnected.

If I borrow my coworkers does she need to unlink it from her account to be able to link it to mine? Or does it only really only link to tickets? If I were to use it for photopass, would she get the photos or will I?

You can't link a MB to another profile at all - once it's linked it is linked. I am not 100% sure about DL as those act a little differently - someone else may know.

Q: Can other people use my MagicBand+?

A: A MagicBand+ can be assigned to any ticket or Magic Key pass on the MyDisney account it is linked to. The MagicBand+ must be used by the owner of the admission that is assigned to it (tickets and Magic Key passes are nontransferable). A ticket or Magic Key pass can be unassigned and reassigned to a MagicBand+ at any time. Additionally, a MagicBand+ may be unlinked from an account and linked to a new account via the Disneyland app.

A valid theme park ticket or pass and park reservation is required to enter the theme parks. Park reservations are limited and not guaranteed.

I must have miss interpreted other discussions about MB. I only half paid attention because I didn't expect to have a need for one.

Okay. So it has to be the same account not a new account, which makes sense. So it sounds like I can use it for the interactive things but not for admission or photopass. Which is fine. That is the only reason I want one to begin with.

Today, I brought an old MB that was turned off and not connected to my app (although it had been previously). I was able to use it at the 70th ticket kiosks and at the castle interactive. All of the tickets printed had the MK greeting. Even though it didn't show as paired/connected on my app, and wasn't turned on, the kiosks still recognized it as belonging to a MK holder.

I tried to use it at Bounty Hunter but was prompted to turn it on. Once I turned it on, it worked. I did not need to connect or pair it to my app. Note, I did not participated in the hunt. I just checked the first station to see if it would let me play.
