Whispering Canyon - no more fun

Hi Heather...that was me!! I don't think Cowboy, I mean Pirate, was concerned at all when he came back to the table and I was the only one sitting there. Glad you had a good time and congrats again to everyone who ran the full that morning!!

I was there too! You were the BEST...thanks! I'd never been either. We all had a great time!

p.s. congrats on the 1/2 and see you at disneyland... ;)

We were just there for dinner on Sunday 1/12 and had a great time! Our server "Heada Lettuce" (even had that as her name on our receipt) threw our straws at us and made all 7 of us YELL for ketchup! At one point a few servers led us through a few rounds of the Hokey Pokey. I saw one giant Coke, the servers banged their tray tables all over, and the kids did the pony stick ride. All in all, it was a rowdy time and everyone seemed to enjoy it. When we brought our 14 ketchup bottles to a table of 3 (not much room!) it was obvious from the mom's face she did not know this went on here! But when it was time for them to deliver to another table, they were having fun too! Nothing quiet when we were there!

Well, it takes all sorts to make the World go 'round. I'm all for making WDW more adult-friendly! One restaurant and resort at a time, if necessary.

Oh I hope not. This is the place for kids and to be a kid. That's the allure of it. (IMHO) If you don't want loud, boisterous fun, there are plenty of restaurants that are more "adult" like.

I was very disappointed they changed LTT to a non character meal. We would have gone if it had been.

Went to Whispering Canyon Cafe last night for dinner. Our reservation was at 5:45 we got there at 5:30 and were seating pretty much right away. When we arrived the restaurant was empty but filled up as the evening went on. Our server was fun, funny but low key she threw us our straws but then told us we could only have one napkin each she teased us and kept our drinks full all evening long. We did the Hokey Pokey, sang if you're happy and you know it, there were pony rides for the kids, I saw a giant beverage go by, the servers were banging their trays, there was a lot of activity a lot of hootin' and hollerin' and just a lot of fun! I was not disappointed and I felt that totally over filled the skillet so we couldn't even dream of getting a refill! A great night overall :)

All systems GO!! Thanks for the update:woohoo:

and outside the straw throwing none of this is familiar to me. We were seated at 7 pm

We were there last week, and Rafael, our server, was fantastic. He even made my shy 4-year-old DS bust up laughing. DS had a telescope, and Rafael stole it... walked away looking through it, and then "ran" into the wall. I thought DS was going to choke on his milkshake he was laughing so hard.

DS and I are going back in September, and the first thing he asked to do was go back to WCC "and ask for more ketchup!"

Oh, and we got a "big drink"... they're still there.

Ask for Rafael and tell him "James with the telescope" sent you. ;)

Rafael is awesome! We had requested Hedda Lettuce on our November trip, we loved her in the past. Unfortunatly she had gone home sick but they assured me we'd love Rafael. We did, he was great. He made that dinner so much fun, I think we got every trick they offer. It was great. My grandparents (in their 70s) thought it was a riot! Especially when he told the kids to stand on their seats and yell for ketchup and told my grandma too as well. (No, she didn't do it, but it was funny!)

I say if you want to really have fun request Rafael, Hedda Lettuce, or just say we want a really into it waiter...

I'd join that fan club! He was such a great guy. We go to WCC on our first night every trip, it is always a good way to get into the spirit. We have a DD14 who he really gave a hard time to, we were all laughing so hard. We were just watching videos yesterday and my DD7 had to keep watching her get the big fork over and over, she was crying she was laughing so hard.

It was like that in September when we were there too. We were stuck in the back room, but waiting over 30 mintues for our seating time because the main room was packed, we heard/saw nothing of what others described. I guess it depends on night and those working. If we ever decide to go for breakfast we'll have to see if it is different than our first experience (we won't go back for dinner...didn't like the food).

Ok so people seem to be having very different experiences here. I was interested in this for the 'fun' aspect as my 3 year old is afraid of characters so character meals are out. Any recommendations on when to go to better increase our chance of the silly aspect? Certain days? Certain sections to sit in? Can you request different sections to sit in? I assume you can't actually request servers can you?

When we went last time (November) we requested a server, the one we had the previous trip. She had gone home sick and they said they were sorry but obviously we were looking to have fun so they would give us someone fun. That was when we got Rafael. He was awesome! (See above posts!) I'd request him, Hedda Lettuce (who is on Dis!) or just say we would like a very into it server please.

DO you make this request when you make your ADR or just when you get there. This will be our last night so I want to make sure it is memorable.

Just when you check in. Of course there is noo guarantee but we have always found them to be very helpful. We love it there, but we are the opposite of you. We go on our arrival night to get the Disney spirit! Have a great time...

We were there on Sunday Feb 1st and it was great. Just as fun as always. Actually I asked the server which sandwich was better the pork or the brisket and he asked entire room of people to vote on it. The pork sandwich won. We go every year and will go again next year.

Firstly I have to say that on our trip this was probably the restaurant we had least expectations for foodwise AND we were pleasantly surprised. We all found the food really tasty, the mash in particular & wouldn't hesitate to go again, Big Al (although his name bad said Jon!)was good fun & everything was delivered with deadpan humour.
As a comment on the start of this thread, were the people who complained from Mars? Every guidebook, every forum.... warns you what to expect at WC so why would you be surprised/complain when that's exactly what happens?
SD:thumbsup2

I am having a hard time with people on disboards...so much to the point that I really thinking of banning myself from visiting this site. There are plenty of other informative places on the web for me.

People want Disney to be more adult friendly and less kid centric...WHAT? If that is the case, take out ALL the characters, Mickey's Toon Town, Dumbo, Peter Pan, Alladin's carpets, etc etc etc. Because we all know as responsible adults...it is pretty childish and undignifired to play (like a child) right? Heaven forbid we might want stoop down to the level of a child....NO it is all about ME ME ME ME ME.

If you don't like what WCC was...don't go there...and shut up so the rest of us can enjoy it.
