we are looking to get this set - anyone have any reviews they care to share? Do you have to use HE detergent? Worth the money?

I bought this set at the end of last year and it is great. It is by far the best set I have ever owned. Get the pedestals though, otherwise it would be way to low. I do not use the HE. I just use liquid and it works fine.

DH works for Whirlpool so I'm a little biased but we have them and I love them! It holds a bunch and things do come out really clean and it doesn't use as much water. I do use the HE liquid or powder. If you don't, then you should use MUCH less detergent. The only complaint whirlpool ever gets with these is a film or a slight smell in the washer (I know plenty of people who have this same complaint with a normal washer too!). This can be avoided by leaving the door open to the washer between uses and doing one hot wash per week. DH also suggests that you don't use liquid softener because it leaves a film in your washer.

I agree with the pedestals. It's worth it.

Happy Laundering! (not sure if that's a word  )

I've had mine for about a year and love them! The washer can hold huge loads of laundry and does a nice job on the clothes. It's much quieter than our old washer, too.

To answer the detergent question, yes, you are supposed to use "he" rated detergent, and I do. If you don't use it, you'll often get a "suds" warning during the load, which causes the washer to take extra long to rinse out, and it's supposed to be bad for the machine. The detergent I buy is the same price as the regular detergent, so I don't mind buying it.

We bought the Duet set 2.5 years ago and we absolutely LOVE it! When we purchased it, DS was a newborn and I was doing 10+ loads a week for our family of 4 in our old washer/dryer (I separated the baby's things). Now on a regular week with 4 of us I do 4, sometimes 5 loads of laundry because it holds so much in a load! We have always used the he detergent and recently had a service call and the service man told us that we really only need to use half to a third of the fill line on the cup because it is so concentrated. And the same goes for fabric softener especially if you have a water softener. I think you will be very happy with these machines- we could not believe the time it has saved! The dryer and washer are finished at approximately the SAME TIME! I never have to rerun the dryer like I did in the past and everything comes much cleaner! I think it was totally worth the money and now knowing that we can use less detergent it is saving in that department. Plus, we have a well so it doesn't affect us as much, but it cuts the amount of water used tremendously. It is probably one of the best purchases we have made- I really resommend it!

We have had ours since December and LOVE it! It holds tons of stuff! I do use Tide HE in it!!

We purchased the Duet HT washing machine and Duet dryer in Aug of 2004. LOVE them!! Worth the money, don't have any complaints! I have 3 young children so I use my machine everyday. I set the delay timer to run early in the am, then load the dryer when I get up in the morning. We have saved money too. Our water bill is $20+ less than with our old machine, and since the spin cycle drains the water so well, it only takes one cycle in the dryer, no going back to restart the cycle. :cloud9: And yes, we use the HE, tried it with regular, detergent, but had problems with the suds.
