Which would you prefer?

Thanks for the great replies, everyone! My home is in a great neighborhood (I am moving for job reasons, otherwise, I'd live here forever!) so I'm not worried about getting some interest in the home. I like the idea of trying it with a flooring allowance and if it's not working, to just have the carpet replaced after a couple of weeks. I would clearly state in the listing that the house has a flooring allowance. I'm with the majority of you that if I was the one buying the house, I'd rather choose my own flooring.

I would absolutely HAVE to replace the carpet if it was hideous. But it's high quality, in good shape, and clean. It's just about the color to me. Hmmm... all things to think about. Thanks for the opinions!

DS#2 has health issues, so even if the carpet was brand new, I'd rip it out again. And probably not even put carpet down. Houses that offer a carpet allowance are really much, much more appealing to me because of that. Even if that weren't the case, I'd still prefer to choose my own.

If you do feel the need to put in new carpet, do so as close to the listing as possible and get a neutral color. Anything else would appeal to a very small segment of the population.
