Which would you chose? D90 or D7000

DH and I are DSLR novices and are trying to decide between the Nikon D90 or D7000. We have also considered the 3100 or 5000 but like the capabilities of the 90 and 7000 better. What do you think? I like the 7000 because it has a slightly better shutter speed and newer technology, but don't really know if it will make that big of a difference. We are both huge picture takers, and are still toting a 35mm Nikon N75 and N80. Because of the price of film and how expensive it is to get them developed, have decided it is finally time to upgrade. Thanks in advance for any suggestions or recommendations!

I chose the D90 last summer over the D7000. I went with the D90 because of the price difference and it was a bit lighter. My objective was to have a camera that would autofocus my AF older lenses. So far, I am happy with my purchase.

Thanks so much for your insight! I have played with the D90 in the store, but not the 7000 and I really liked the feel of the 90 too

I was ther a little aver a year ago. At that time the camera shops told me that Nikon is trying to phase out the D90. After a close look at the feel of both the 90 and 7000 as well as the features I figured that the price difference just wasn't worth it. the 90 has been a great fit for me. If you use your photography camera as a video camera at all tho you may want to look more at the 7000 due to the HD option.
Overall the long standing reptation of the D90 being a workhorse sold me on putting down the investment. Of note the photopas photographers at WDW, Universal, Seaworld , discovery cove and Bush Gardens Tampa all use D90 and are told by managment to shoot in full auto. I asked at each park.

I really like the D90, but I haven't seen the 7000 in person. I think what has really sold me on the 7000 is that it is weather proofed.

I owned both at the same time. The D7000 offers better features, better build quality, a better user interface, better movies, lower base ISO, and faster flash sync.

IMO the D7000 does not provide a substantial increase in image quality.

Both can take beautiful photos. The D7000 has more features, including video. So, it depends upon how you intend to use the camera and whether those features will matter to you.

If it were me, I'd get the D7000 because I would rather have the features at my disposal.

Unless the D90 really fits you better physically the D7000 is the better technological camera.

I haven't tried the 7000, but I do have a 90, and I love it. The 90 takes great pictures and I can still use my old lenses (the old manual lenses from the film cameras, not AF lenses- I'm sure they would work on the 7000, but I know they work in manual on the 90). If you want the features go for the newer one, but the 90 is still a great camera.

Thank everyone for your insight. We went this weekend and played with the 7000. I. AM. HOOKED!!!!! It was an amazing difference between the 7000 and the 90. They place we looked at rents camera on a 3 day or weekly basis, so I think we will probably rent before we buy just to make sure that is the one we want, but I loved it!!! Thanks again for your help!

I have the D7000, and I LOVE it! My first dslr, very easy to learn & use! I've had mine almost a year now. It was recommended here to me on the DIS, & I'm so glad I decided on it! Great choice!
