Which Would you Choose BA or Virgin?

For EXACTLY the same price would you choose Virgin or BA for a flight from London to Orlando?

British Airways every time. We have given up flying with Virgin long ago, their quality of service is in decline and the legroom on their transatlantic flights is appalling. Factually they are almost always more expensive than British Airways.

The leg room is exactly the same - they're both awful at 31" in economy. I agree their service has declined considerably, I think they've become the victim of their own success.

However, I think you do get slightly more for your money with Virgin.

We've only ever flown to Orlando with Virgin so don't know what BA is like.
We flew Ba to France about 2 years ago didn't go much on the service we received.

Not true. I have always obtained a better like for like price with Virgin than BA.

Virgin every time for me....beats BA in every department.

I prefer BA because I find their seats more comfortable with the fold-out foot-rest (for my short legs ) and the adjustable head-rest 'wing' bits to support your head if you manage to sleep at all.

I've never noticed any appreciable difference between any other aspect, i.e. legroom, service, cabin crew, food, etc. The only time I've preferred Virgin was on a Miami flight out of Heathrow with the whizzy entertainment system. We've never had this on an Orlando flight with them, however.

What would make the biggest difference to me is if one of them started to offer flights from regional airports (Cardiff, Bristol or Birmingham for me). Until that happens, I'm more likely to go with a charter flight from my local airport than trek down to Gatwick for either Virgin or BA!

I would fly BA because of my experience in the past with them (Heathrow - NYC) and I keep hearing that Virgin are going down in quality, an opinion seemingly backed up by several people on this thread.

I have flown transatlantic with both and preferred the service we recieved on Virgin. I felt the meals and snacks provided were better. We have chosen to fly Virgin for this trip.

Have always flown with Virgin and despite my current gripe about the steep summer prices - not just Virgin I know - will probably stick with them.

BA do not fly direct from Manchester anyway so they would not be an option for us.

I haven't voted as I've only ever flown with Virgin so I can't compare!

BA were £350 cheaper than Virgin for us this August (for a family of 4) so we are giving them a try so I am interested in what you all say.

I think Virgin's DTD Check in is a real perk though and will miss this with BA, but not enough to pay £350 extra if I'm honest

Hi Sam,

Would you mind expanding a lttle bit on this for me? Just so I can be prepared with extra books, games etc for my children if needs be. Is it the food? The entertainment (or lack of LOL). They are showing some great kids films on our flight and also a 2 hour Nickolodeon loop which will probably keep my kiddiewinks happy for at least 8 hours

When we flew with Virgin in Dec 2004 we were thoroughly underwhelmed with the "free" kids bag we were given in comparison to previous years.

We flew BA in 2003. Not a great deal of difference to Virgin, but the cabin crew were better than any previous Virgin flight. Had a great kids bag - a Pooh swim bag filled with bits that kept my then 3 year old entertained for ages. Her kids meal was great as well (not ordered either!). Pizza slices with allsorts of goodies on the side. Entertainment was good (about the same as Virgin) with some current Disney films showing - Jungle Book 2 at that time!

I had a bulkhead seat as my son was in the Sky Cot, but the others did say the seats felt more cramped than Virgin.

I would fly with whoever was cheapest to be honest. Not much between the two and I wouldnt pay more for one than the other.
