Which stroller for a bigger kid?

We are long past strollers in our house, but I am concerned about my 6 year old getting tired and cranky and driving us all to drink if he can't keep up. If I have to rent a stroller what kind should I get? He is just over 49 inches and is 65 pounds so I don't think the citi mini that most of the places rent is going to work. I saw that the citi elite says good up to 50 inches and 75 pounds so it could theoretically work, but Kingdom Strollers that rents that model doesn't have it for our dates.

What have you rented for a bigger child? I could buy one too I suppose, but I really don't want to have to deal with bringing it to the airport.

I really don't want to rent one because I don't want the hassle of keeping track of it, but when my youngest gets tired we all suffer and I don't want everyone to be annoyed with him on our vacation.

Should I just rent the ones in the park if and when he needs one despite the added cost or is there another model available somewhere that would work for him?

We are renting citi elite from Orlando strollers. We used this at DL earlier this year and it was a lifesaver for our 6 year old for all of the reasons you listed.

I've seen kids that appeared as old as 13 curled in strollers, so trust me, your 6 year old won't have a problem with stroller fitting. Poster above mentioned Orlando Strollers, but I think you can rent in the parks, too.

Is Orlando strollers one of the approved stroller rentals that can drop off at a Disney resort without you being there? I would want it when we arrived and I wouldn't want to be stuck waiting around for it if I had to be there to accept it.

How big is your 6 year old and how much room did she/he have?

Ha, I can imagine a 13 year old curled up in one, but I would think that would be one of those skinny girls. My son is built like a tank. I guess I should say he is almost 7 now, his birthday is at the end of December. We stopped using a stroller by the time he was 3, but the walking at Disney will probably do him in and I don't want to miss a moment.

They do rent strollers at Disney, but they are the hard plastic ones that don't recline and they are REALLY expensive. I really don't want to deal with the stroller thing, but I'm trying to be practical. I had decided not to rent one, but began second guessing myself on a recent walk when he started whining.

I would recommend the City Mini GT. My 3 year old is 45 inches tall and he fits comfortably in it. He's 45 lbs, but the weight rating on it is 75 lbs.

4-5 inches and 20 pounds is a huge difference though, was there tons of room or was he just fitting comfortably?

Thanks for the picture, that really helps. The couple of extra inches he has may keep him from fitting in it and being able to pull the canopy over him Was it hard to push her since the stroller is only rated for 50 pounds? Did she feel comfortable in it?

It wasn't hard to push at all. We often had our backback on the handles and it easily weighed 10 lbs.

She was very comfy. Honestly it was a lifesaver. She would hop in when we were heading to another area of the park or a long distance. Then we'd park the stroller while we hit a few attractions. It saved her legs. It was also great late at night when we were trying to leave the park and it was crowded. The stroller folds up like an umbrella stroller so it was easy to take on the buses.

I tried to find a picture but couldn't. We had our 2 boys (1 and 8) in a double City Mini GT in DL in a Feb and it was a life saver at the end of the night. The 8 year olds seat wasn't exactly roomy and the canopy wasn't a perfect situation but he never complained and we usually just left the canopy pushed back.

I just recently bought this same stroller for our upcoming trip for our 5 year old. It was $54 on Amazon, which ends up being less than the cost of renting one and we can use it wherever we are on our trip, including the airport.

Thanks for your report. It must have been hard to puch in a straight line with kids of such different sizes.

I'm going this May and was looking into strollers as well...I have a. 2 year old and a 6 year old. I was looking at the sit and stand strollers but they don't seem too comfortable for my 6 year old if he falls asleep. Any suggestions?

When mine were 3 and 6, I took a sit and stand to Disney. It worked great, but there was no way the 6 year old could have gone to sleep. She just jumped on for long walks or if it was very crowded.

I had a sit and stand 3 years ago when my 2 younger ones were 7 (turned 7 the week before we went) and 3. The 7 year old was a trooper and hardly needed to use it but is did sit occasionally, however, it was ridiculously unstable with the two of them in it (and hard to push) and it did not make it the whole week. We had to abandon it in Animal Kingdom towards the end. Definitely try one out with your kids before you purchase.

Per their website, yes they are one of the approved rental companies. I also plan on just picking up from bell services.

DD is 51 inches and 54 lbs. She had to bend knees to utilize foot rest while sitting in stroller but it was very easy to maneuver with her in it.

Like you, we haven't used a stroller at home in years. It is simply to keep peace on vaca after walking miles in the heat or late at night after a long day.
