I think so too but Grease popped out at me.
It did me too, that's what I was laughing. But you know what, I bet you a hundred dollars that there is a little girl out there named that!!

Unclassy?

I had first typed tacky, but thought that sounded too harsh.

Immature, as someone said, might be a better word. But certainly unusual spellings aren't always bad. There are some that I don't really mind! I don't want to make a blanket generalization.

I don't like "Grayce" though.

Ariel Grace, no funny spelling, and no hyphen.

I love the name Grace. It is beautiful, classic and simple. When I see it, I think of the true meaning of the word - "elegance of beauty or form etc." But when I see that letter "y" in there - it just reminds me of the color gray. Bleh..

Thanks everyone! I think I'll stick to Grace! Now let's see to answer some questions,

She was originally going to be Ariel Jaden but without getting into a religious discussion (we all know how those go on the DISO) let's just say I've had two dreams. In the first dream I had my baby girl and we were at Disney. There was an Ariel doll on the shelf and I asked her, "Who is that?" She said "Ariel" (Imagine a little 2 year old voice) and I said "Who is Ariel?" She said "That's ME mommy!" So Ariel it was.

For any of you who know anything about the China program you will know it's going very slow now. What was thought to be a six month wait has turned into 14-20 months. So to say it's been hard waiting is an understatement. So we pray daily for God to take care of our little girl wherever she is. Sometimes I get frustrated and my prayers show that frustration. So I had a dream recently and very clearly I heard "It is by my GRACE that your baby will come home." When I woke up I knew she was Ariel Grace.

The reason I hyphenated it is because I want it to be her first name. I guess I could name her Ariel Grace Barbara with no hyphens and just put Ariel Grace in the first name blank.

My son is John Cole, it isn't hyphenated on his birth certificate but he likes using the hypen. We do call him John-Cole, both names, he is NOT John....LOL! He's 15 and loves his name. We live in the south so there are lots of double names here. In John-Cole's school alone we have,
John-Allen
John-Reed
Terri-Beth
Katie-Beth
John-Austin
Mary-Douglas
Mary-Margaret

I could actually go on, LOL! It's a "SOUTHERN THANG!" Ha!
Thank you everyone!!!!

I hate deliberate misspellings. I think they look unintelligent, and they never reflect well on the parents.

I'm in the South... I've seen lots of double names, but no hyphenated ones.

Our DD is "Grace". People are always telling her and us what a pretty name it is. I am not a fan at all of any funky spelled names, but i guess that's kind of a personal preference thing.

LOL

Somehow I don't think Mary-Douglas would change her name if you paid her. She's one of the most popular girls in the school and her name is ALL HER OWN. It fits her to a "t" . Just goes to show you to each their own. Oh and yes her mother is Mary and her father is Doug, LOL!

Oh and they aren't unclassy or trashy either. They are a wonderful family!

I personally like Ariel-Grace as her first name! The names flow together nicely...

And every parent is different when it comes to naming their children. While I don't necessarily care much for a common name that is spelled so far incredibly way out there that it's nearly unrecognizable, I see nothing wrong with spelling a name with a minor substitution. Just because someone chose to spell it a little differently doesn't mean that they are unclassy, trashy, tacky, or immature. (this coming from a girl who's parents chose to spell her name with an IE instead of the common Y...they certainly aren't immature or tacky!) :)

I agree and frankly, I find it unclassy, trashy and very immature that anyone would say something like that about a child's name  .

Who's to say they are "Misspelled"?

I've already said I'm not a fan of giving a common name with an uncommon spelling.
But I think that's a bit harsh and I wouldn't say that any name is misspelled. Names are a personal choice and even common names often have many variations, especially in different cultures.

I like Grace better than Grayce. I agree with the pp who said the 2nd way reminds them of the color gray.

That being said, I named my first daughter Elyzabeth. She loves the unusual spelling as much as I do. She never gets tired of spelling it or her nickname, Lyzzie, for people and everyone gives us compliments on it. I don't think it's "unclassy" or "immature" at all, but then again I'm the one who chose it.

Why are you taking this so personally? If you told me you hated the name Lindsay, especially if it isn't spelled Lindsey, I certainly wouldn't be offended. It's your opinion and you are entitled to have it.
