Which restaurant did you hate that's raved about on the DIS?

I, also, will not use the word "hate", but I was really disappointed in the California Grille, but loved the Flying Fish. Maybe my expectations were too high. :(

I know we're in the minority here, but going to the 50's Primetime Cafe was PURE torture for me. The food was just 'okay' - I'd rather just go to my local diner. And, as for the whole theme, well, it just wasn't for me. Granted, I think we had an exceptionally crass server, but if she had held up MY plate for all the neighboring tables to see, and loudly announced "look everybody, junior licked his plate clean!" like she did to my father, I think I would've died on the spot. It was a tad bit over the top for me. :(

The most disappointing meal my family had in three trips was at Mama Melrose. Everything else has been pretty good to great!

Tastes do vary. On a recent trip to Garden Grille for dinner, half of us hated it but half of us loved it (dh, ds, my sis and her dh ate like 5 skillets of it...my older niece and I chowed substantially and service was awesome...DH rated it #1 on our trip for restaurants. Meanwhile, also seated with us, sil, bil, and my niece and nephew looked ready to barf at the sight of the food and said never again. Go figure.)

I did not hate, but did not care for, Coral reef. Way too pricey, and the waiter goofed up my order (wrong dish, wrong everything... I had the mismatched wine to prove it) and then denied it, putting blame squarely on me -- think again, bud.

Does it count if you love a place but it doesn't love you? My mother loves Germany's "oktoberfesty" food... but it's only briefly with her, if ya catch my drift....

My list for the 'dont-get-what-all-the-hype-is about' eateries:

Cinderella's Royal Table Breakfast
Le Cellier

I don't know that this place gets all raves, but I do find the food at Mama Melrose to be mediocre at best.

We didn't like the Crystal Palace, or Liberty Tree Tavern. Also there was a lot of raving about Tubbis at the Dolphin and we hated it, yes hate is a strong word and the feelings we had for it require that word. I have to use the hate word for the Rainforest cafe too. Actually the best food we got this past trip was on the Boardwalk at the Hotdog stand.

Well if we all liked the same places, we would never get a table! Even DH and I disagree on where we like to eat - he loves Ohana and I could do without it. I like Liberty Tree Tavern and he wants nothing to do with it. We both disliked Akerhaus very much, but aren't the Norwegians lovely people?

We had a bad experience at Mama Melrose the first time we ate there, but they bent over backwards to make it right. We tried it again the next year and it has been a favorite ever since. The big buffets restaurants, CM (remember when it was a quiet little place at the Disney Village Marketplace?) CP and Hollywood and Vine have a few things that are good at each place but in general they are blucky. Sci-Fi Drive is risky at best.

I think that hate is too strong of a description but I was disappointed in 1900 Park Faire for dinner. The prime rib reminded me of a Las Vegas $1.99 buffet.

I didn't see this one named yet, and I know I am in the minority here (although my DH agrees). We will not be back to Beaches and Cream. We were really excited to try it with all the great reviews, but we waited almost an hour for a table in the middle of the afternoon. It was crowded and loud, and the food was not all that good, really. Granted, we didn't try the ice cream--by that time we were just ready to get out of there!

Donald's Breakfastsaurs ( I know there are mixed reviews on that one), and 1900 Park Fare at the GF---again, characters were great, food not-so-great at all.

A) The Brown Derby was awful, mediocre to terrible food and the waiter was no better. Easily the worst dining experience we've ever had at WDW.

B) Concourse Steakhouse for the same reasons as above.

C) Goofy's Beach Blast at Cape May. We'll give this one another chance because we are DVCer's at the BCV so it's nearby and it's gotten very good reviews. Problem was that nothing that was supposed to be hot was anymore than cool to lukewarm. We went later in the morning so we'll go a bit earlier next time.

My favorite has been Le Cellier but they've been unable to cook my filet mignon to medium on the last two visits. I just can't handle raw steak and it comes back out to me as well done. They get one more chance in November.

On the other hand Donald's Breakfastosaurus and the Liberty Tree Tavern have never disappointed us.

Liberty Tree - We always go there. We've never been so disappointed that we let it ruin our meal. Sure, sometimes the service is slow and the food tastes "tv dinnerish" but we are glad for the air conditioning! Last time we were there my 3 year old fell asleep before the food came and slept the whole meal. Our server took her meal off our ticket without being asked. One thing that always bugs me about the LT - the restroom situation. You have to wait at a minimum 15 minutes to wash your hands! 25 minutes if you actually have to go potty! They should add extra facilities.

Beaches and Cream - we have never eaten there because it's always packed! I think maybe once my kids got take out ice cream cones. Why doesn't Beach Club have a place like Roaring Forks at Wilderness Lodge? We find that so convenient. Did we just miss it? We love everything about WL. It was our resort. We never even considered another. Until we became a family of 5. Once we did get lucky and booked a Jr. Suite. Which was great. Now we're DVC members so we own a piece of "our resort".!!

Crystal Palace, 1900 Park Fare and Donald's Breakfasaurus. We've been to them all and we will never consider them again.

We used to like to eat at Tony's for breakfast but some comments on this board have made me a little leary.

I could just go on and on. 50's PT - totaly depends on the CM. My family and I do not like to be picked on. I think there's a fine line between being funny and enjoyable and being loud and annoying. Okay, the line ain't that fine.

I'm actually enjoying this thread!

We received bad service and our meal was mediocre at best when we tried O'hana's in 2001. We will not go there again.

We find that we haven't been dissapointed at any counter service place. We had great sandwiches at the Plaza Pavillion and good burgers at Cosmic Rays. We also liked Roaring Forks at the WL.

However, when we would eat at full-service places we found that the food is generally over-priced for what it is. We will probably only do 2-3 full service meals during our 7 night trip this time. I'd rather save our money for other things. If I'm going to spend $80 or more for a meal I'd rather do it here in Dallas where there are superior restaurants with awesome food.

We hate it,food ,service, noise, you name it and put that with rude wait staff this place should be closed.

I knew that I was missing one eatery from my 'what's-with-the-hype' list. Why do people rave about this place?:confused

It is only ice cream and not the best ice cream at that.

Ohana for dinner, while the food was good. It was not what I expected. I will not return here for dinner. I know it gets great reviews, I find it a little too expensive for what we ate.

I will return for the character breakfast though.

Garden Grill!!!!

Crowded and noisy and the food was ok. The characters were VERY rushed.

I will never go back to the Coral Seas Rest. We gave it three chances on three different occassions and each time we felt the food was way over priced, and just gross: no excuse for bad seafood in Florida (I am a Floridian) thought Red Lobster was better. I also got sick after eating there the last time. So, no Coral Cafe for me.

I am thought O'Hana's was just so so. Not bad just not impressive.

Ohanas - overcooked meat, dark and cold corner, nice server

Concourse Steakhouse - so-so atmosphere, food okay, crappy server. As I put in another post here, it's the first time in my life that I've actually looked for the manager to complain.

California Grille - would not seat us in dining room at 9PM. We sat in the lounge area, had a server that brushed us off as people that wouldn't order much when we really wanted a "meal." We actually thought about leaving, but at that point would have a hard time getting anything decent by the time we got to the restaurant. Had the "chowda" that was full of onions and very little seafood. We enjoyed our meal there on a previous visit, but I don't think we'll be going back.

Boy, I thought it was just me.

We don't hate anything - but we've been disappointed in:

Akerhaus - nothing was palatable. Too much salt and dill weed.

O'hana - had 1 good experience, and 1 bad. The bad was especially disappointing because it was DS's friend's birthday. Overcooked meat, very poor service. The waiter was practically nasty because 2 in our party couldn't eat certain selections.

Chef Mickey - Boring, sub-par food. Characters are nice but food is what we wanted. It was like bad school cafeteria food.

Coral Reef - UGH! Mom had to send her food back! Fish tasted old, and the prices were way too high. Notice it never makes Orlando's top restaurant list? It was terrible.

Going back 10/30 to Disney - hopefully all our choices will be magical.
