We are going to visit WDW with our kids (4 and 21 months) for the first time the first week of May. Our plan was to stay 4-5 days at Disney and go to Disney's Vero Beach for a couple days. I've noticed a lot of the hotels on site have a little beach area and I'm wondering if I should look at staying at one of them instead of driving to Vero Beach. Is it a better idea just to go to Vero or which hotel is a good one for the kids to enjoy the beach? I was looking at the Poly if we can get a discounted rate on the night we want to be there or the Swan or Dolphin.

Any suggestions?

Thanks.

Do you mean beach as in "play in the sand and swim in the water" or just "play in the sand".

Because I believe there is NO SWIMMING at any body of water on WDW property. (I could very well be wrong though.) But I do know that we stayed at the CBR twice and "no swimming" signs were clearly posted.

The Polynesian IS the best for a "beach" vacation IOO. It actually has three beaches and two of them are usually almost empty. All are nice long stretches and afford great views of the castle and Seven Sea Lagoon. They have hammocks, swings, chaises and cabannas (at no charge).

The pool is steps away from the center beach. As Stinkerbelle said, swimming is no longer allowed.

Just playing in the sand is ok. They'd just play in the water so the pools would be fine for them. Just for them to build sand castles etc. and preferably not too crowded.

We really enjoyed WL last May. DD was 3 1/2 at the time and she loved playing on the beach. As other posts said you're not allowed to swim although DD and DH did get lake water at use while building stuff in the sand. Their was a little playground on the beach as well and the bike rental was close by. When we were there hardly anyone was on the beach so it was very relaxing. There were lots of lounge chairs and cabanas. You're also very close to FW which your kids would probably enjoy as well. The rooms aren't as big as some of the other deluxe resorts but they do offer bunk beds.

As everyone has already mentioned, you can play in the sand but no swimming at the beaches in the WDW resorts. As for Vero, I've been there and it's beautiful! I can hardly wait to go back this june;) If you're looking to be able to swim at the beach, Vero is definetly where you'll want to be. Plus you're not only on the beach at Vero, you are on the ocean. It's defenitly worth the trip to Vero, very relaxing and gorgeous resort.

Storm-Along Bay at the BC/YC has sandy shores and sandy bottom, so there's your beach, if you really want to keep it to WDW. Plus, SAB is spectacular, tho given how large it is, I expect I would want one parent with each child at all times so you don't lose track of one of them.

But then again, in my family we just Love VB as we were there in January. Also note that Forbes ranked it among the top 10 family resorts in the World! How about that?! May I think is sea turtle time which could be waaay cool for the older child, and the pool area and toddler play areas are really hard to beat. The whole atmosphere there is so laid back and easy-going. We loved it and plan to go back once every two years, if not every year, or maybe twice a year, or...:teeth:

While I love disney to us there is nothing quite liike a "beach vacation". We usually hit Clearwater Beach after a trip to wdw for a few days of complete relaxation. I haven't been to Vero Beach but I think you will enjoy a few days on the beach. I would look for a place that offers a pool as well as beachfront access.

With its tropical atmosphere, the Poly is almost like a beach vacation in addition to being Disney. GF has a nice beach too, though the atmosphere is more like Atlantic coast Florida. Since I can't persuade my DH to do anything BUT Disney, we stay at the Poly and I pretend I'm in Hawaii, or Tahiti, or...
