pixiedust: HI! My husband and I are taking our three kids to Universal in June and can't decide which onsite hotel to stay at. We have narrowed it down to HRH and Royal Pacific. Our kids are 8, 11, and 14. Any suggestions or pros/cons.

Thanks.

Our only experience has been RPR and we love it! This will be our 6th year in a row. The pool is awesome and the staff is top-notch.The landscaping is beautiful and the rooms are plush. Your kids will love the pool area. The food in the restaurants is delish. As you can tell, I highly recommend the RPR. Good luck with your decision!!

Hard Rock. We liked Portofino Bay the most but you can walk to everything from the HR. Just remember that when it rains they stop the boats so you have to walk. When we go in August, it rains everyday. With small children, it can be a long walk. pixiedust: pixiedust: pixiedust:

RPR Pros:
1) Closest resort to IOA
2) Emeril's Tchoup Chop restaurant onsite
3) Beautiful pool (no slide)
4) Gorgeous Pacific island theming and artwork
5) Wonderful staff

HRH Pros:
1) Closest resort to USF
2) Beautiful pool with slide and underwater music
3) Cool, Hotel California theming with Rock star memoriabilia
4) Also has good staff
5) Resort seems smaller than the other two.

Cons.... I've had wonderful stays at both, so I can't really come up with any for either! Have fun choosing!

Well, this advice may be wrong because we have never stayed on-site at Universal, but we are going with HRH over RPR because there are 5 of us and 3 are teenage boys. From what I understand the rooms are (much?) bigger at HRH and you have the option of paying more for a deluxe room with a pullout sofa, which is what we are going to do.

I think others will know more, but does RPR even have standard rooms for 5?

In any case, have a great time! I can't wait til our August trip. :cool1:

i'm a rph virgin and making my first stay there this october.

always have stayed at hard rock.......so kewl.

i would vote for hard rock for the short distance walk to the parks.
rooms are larger at hrh than at rph based on the stats listed in the hotel section.

yes, hrh has few rooms than the other two hotels.
and, smaller lobby.

anyway you go, you will have a fab stay and vacation !

They stop running the boats when it rains because of lightning. Don't know about other times of the year, but I think it's June through August, maybe even September, is their rainy season. We have been to Orlando twice in August, first stay was two week and second was three weeks. We had maybe one day each trip that we DIDN"T have a thunder storm. Most are short, but last trip we stayed at PB (beautiful) and got caught on the walkway under the highway for about an hour. This was a few days after hurricane Charlie, and I think we had as much rain. HR is a three to five min. walk to US and about seven to ten for IA. All three are great hotels. Their LOWES. pixiedust: pixiedust:

Hard Rock, deluxe room. It has two queens and a pullout couch. The extra room is really nice when you have 3 kids. The kids also like the slide at the pool and the ice cream shop!!!

My family is split. I love the RPR. I like the tropical theme, I love the pool area and so do my little ones. My teens love the HRH. For them its a just a "cooler" resort. It is also closer to the parks but RPR isnt really that far away.

I have no clue why they stop the boats because of lighting. The dont stop the Disney boats in those weather conditions :confused3 so it cant just be inheritently dangerous.

I like them both but prefer the Royal Pacific over all three. I just love the FEEL of that resort! The HR is kewl, though. :cool1:

This is EXACTLY why we chose the HRH as well (although we have two boys, 20 & 17, and a girl, 14). I did not see the option for a larger, deluxe room at RPH. We got a military discount on the room, so we're good to go! To me the FOTL is worth the extra cost of staying onsite. Have fun whichever you decide ~

The boats do stop if lightning is present or anticipated. If that happens there is also bus transportation to and from the resorts that runs on a regular schedule.

I like both HRH and RPR and think the walk is just as easy to both. The rooms are bigger at HRH. 5 people would be more comfortable at HRH and as suggested the deluxe would be even better.

Thanks for all the information I greatly appreciate it. I'm glad to hear that they have boat and bus transportation. :sunny:
