I need a new point & shoot camera...what do you reccommend?:confused3

Things that are important to me are a great zoom & I take pictures of my daughter so something that doesn't take forever.

I was looking @ Lumix dmc zs1...I currently have a canon powershot but it has had it.

Thanks for your help!

I love my Canon S5. I hope it lasts a while longer. If I had to get a new point and shoot today, I'd look at the Lumix you like and the canons again.

Even though most of my photos are now taken with my dSLR (Canon XSi) I still carry my Canon G5 in my camera bag to use for quick shots. You cannot beat the clarity, focus and zoom that camera has for everyday use! When I don't have time to switch lenses on my XSi I grab the G5 and get the shot! I could also say the same about my G9 but it died suddenly last summer :sad1:

In fact I would love to buy the G11. It's getting rave reviews and it would be the perfect second camera but now it's competing $$$$ against lenses for my XSi.:sad2:

We recently replaced our camera with a Canon 1100is, it does not live up to its initial hype. We miss our old a70... :D

We have a Canon G11 and really like it, the camera lives up to most of the hype and delivers good photos under most conditions. The DxoMark scores show that backing off to 10 MP was a good decision on Canon's part (8 or 6 would have been even better). Still, the only reason to carry the G11 instead of the Xsi is when we just don't want the size of the SLR.

We just purchased a Sony Cyber-shot WX1 and I must say, it is an incredible camera. Good low-light capability, easy-to-use settings with pop-up info on each setting, burst shooting, 720p movies with sound, and a Sweep Panoramic mode that can't be believed until seen. My wife was looking for a simple, small camera that would produce better quality pictures than she was getting from her Canon S3 IS, and this camera has fit those needs quite nicely.

I have just started hanging about the Photography board so I hope you don't mind the opinion of a newbie:goodvibes

I just received the Panasonic DMC-FZ35 for Christmas and so far, I love it! I also have a Panasonic LZ3 and asked for the FZ35 because I wanted a greater zoom and some of the other features (burst shooting, 1080p video). It is a little bigger than most point and shoots but it is easy to use, and has what my DH calls "stupid mode", i.e. can he turn the camera on, flip the flash up and get a decent picture? Yep! Also, its start-up time is fast and it seems to write pictures to the card fairly quickly. Plus, if you take pictures of your daughter, this camera has auto focus tracking and that works really well for my dog. Good luck with your choice!
