Which non DVC hotel are you nostalgic about?

For us it would be the Polynesian-our first trip with our 5 year old DD (who is 26 now!). We had a beautiful room on the water and we would watch the Electrical Light Parade every night-she thought that was the greatest thing! It was such a relaxed week because there was only the MK and Epcot at that time-and River Country! Remember River Country?
OP this was a great thread! I've enjoyed reading everyone's happy memories!

That is where my husband popped the question. We were on the beach in a hammock staring at the stars about 1:30am. It was perfect - whenever we go to WDW we always go back to "our beach". What memories, now we are planning our first trip home and ready for new memories!!

Pop Century is full of nostalgia It brings me back to the 60's, 70's, 80's, 90's:rotfl:
Actually we really like POP and stayed there when it first opened in '03.

But the resort that we are the very most fond of is Polynesian:goodvibes
It has been years since we stayed there (especially since buyng DVC) but I would stay there in a heartbeat. Hmm, maybe next year we can rent out our DVC points and use that money to stay at Poly:thumbsup2

POR! Our first two Disney trips together were there and we hold it near and dear.

Another vote for POR
as a family of 5 this was the only choice we had

if we need to ever book a WDW resort instead of DVC this will be my first choice
Love the food court

Dixie Landings (Port Orleans Riverside) for us. Many great memories when the kids were smaller. I can hear Bob Jackson now.

My daughter and I had a tradition of always taking a picture with the wooden indian at the entrance of Fulton's General Store. It's fun to look back at the pictures and see how much she grew between trips.

Dennis-

I don't know if this has been said, but for us, it is the Swan. Really. We love it!

Coronado Springs Resort!!!

This was our first on-site resort and I've never really gotten over the fact that the deluxes don't have anything like Pepper Market.

My wife and I were just discussing this. We honeymooned at the Contemporary at a rate that is about 1/10 of what they charge now. As you can see from the signature we have enjoyed just about every resort on property since then and have special memories from all of them. Our last non-DVC trip was last June at the GF for our 30th anniversary. Future non-DVC trips would almost surely be one of the monorail resorts.

We have 2 favorites.

I am about to call Cro when I finish this post to get a room at POR (Dixie Landings) for one night. It was the last place that we stayed before joining DVC, and Dh and I still miss it. Strolling the grounds was very romantic.

Disney is trying to lure us back to our first love, the Contemporary. Dh and I stayed off property on our honeymoon, but returned to stay at the Contemporary 2 years later and again for our 10th wedding anniversary. Since we went to the Top of the World on our Honeymoon, I think we will always consider the Contemporary our quasi-honeymoon hotel.

On that 10th anniversary trip in 2002, we were introduced to our DVC love, which of course is the Boardwalk. We strolled around the lake, listen to a saxophone quartet while on the verandah, and played putt putt.

My Disney life would now be complete with a DVC at POR. No, I would not consider DVC for any of the other moderates, nor would I want it to be downscale. I love the resort, and would love to have my DVC amenities there. I would be pretty happy if I could just stay for fewer points.

POR for us. I still love those magnolia trees on the walk toward the main building and Old Man isle. Since it was our first trip as a family, here, it holds great memories. Heh, it was supposed to be our "once in a lifetime" trip...

The Polynesian.

This is true for us as well. Before BLT, I would have said the original CR. However, Poly was our first resort as a complete family (after all 3 kids were born). We just love it there and I'll think we'll always sneak in some nights there. I love the GF but I don't think I feel nostalgic about it.

Our 1st stay was at Pop, HOWEVER our heart will probably ALWAYS be @POR
I remember our 2nd stay at the World for Heather and I we decided to try POR, walking up to that Antebellum looking Mansion those sweeping stairways even hearing the Bell service's girl speaking cajun(she was from Louisiana) was AWESOME. We went there several more times then purchased into DVC, But still love to go there and just visit then walk over to POFQ for some Beignets simply amazing.pirate:

The Polynesian. My first trip to Disney was in 1976 and we stayed at the Poly. There is just something special about it.

We got our ressie. We are going to POR.

Another vote for POR. It's where we spent the first week of our Honeymoon, so will always have a special magic for us.
