I'm trying to plan a surprise trip for DH's 30th b-day. We stayed at the All Star Sports last time and it was great. But since this is his b-day I would like to upgrade it to a mod this time. It's just the two of us and we would have a car. Which would you recommend?

Tulip ~

After October 20th, I'll be able to compare CBR and CSR, but as of now I've only stayed in CBR. That was on a family trip where my mom and dad had one room and my sister and I (she was a recent college graduate, I was a recent seminary graduate) were right next door. My parents had stayed there the previous year for their 30th anniversary, and I'm pretty sure that they said at that time they were in a section that's typically adults only...could be they just never saw families though. There were definitely kids next to us...not from noise but from all the cute things mousekeeping did with their stuffed critters...lots of peeking out of the window, etc. We loved it there, and in fact if it wasn't down for kitchen rehab right now, I'd probably be staying there (well, that plus my sister thinks we need to stay in different places and she's the one making my ressies) again. But I'm hearing lots of nice things about CSR, so I'm excited to see what I think. I'll give you my option when I get back if you'd like!

Thanks MickeyLuv. Any advise would be great!

My DW and I stayed at Coronado Springs one year. Even though it is a convention resort for Disney, it was not very crowded (we went in October). We thought the resort was very romantic -- we had a nice room near a quiet pool, but within easy walking distance of the Dig Pool.

We spent time in the hammocks near the lake; took lots of walks in the evening or at night along the walkways (also looking for 'gators!); had a nice breakfast one morning at Pepper Market and another at Maya Grille.

The bus service was the BEST I've ever experienced at WDW! We had a bit of a walk to the bus stop, but the buses were exclusive (not shared) to CSR.

The atmosphere was relaxing and appealing. It was a delightful mod to stay at.

We've stayed at POFQ (twice) and CBR. I really like POFQ. The resort is small, and it's just so charming. I'm actually from New Orleans but still appreciate the atmosphere. It's like all the best parts of New Orleans without Bourbon Street and beggers. :) We've walked around POR a lot, but it just doesn't appeal to me as much, and I like being first at the bus stops.

We've also stayed at CBR. It was okay, but it just wasn't as nice. It's so big. And we like to use Disney transportation, even though we drive there and have our own car, and a resort with 7 bus stops just doesn't appeal to me.

Oops...I meant to vote for PO-Riverside, and voted for French Quarter by mistake. Why can't they just keep calling it Dixie Landings!!!??? Sorry!

I agree 100% with Kermit. POFQ is great and we were not impressed at all with CBR.

Well Po-R and Po-FQ are tied right now. For our 10th anniversary my husband and I stayed in the mansion area of PO-R and found it romantic and beautiful. It was quiet and we loved taking the boat to DTD. I say stay there or FQ (didn't get to visit ).

Great pool area, awesome transportation (not shared with any other resort) and the perfect atmosphere.

Thanks for all the great suggestions so far.

Any more opinions?

I have stayed at CB and POR, and of the two I like POR better. The main reason is the boat you can take directly to DD in the evening. We stayed in the mansion side and just loved it there.
I have also been to CS three times to eat in the Maya Grill. Although I love that restaurant, the resort seemed too remote, and it seemed odd to see men in business suits in WDW!

I've stayed once at CBR, 3 times at PO-FQ, and 3 times at PO-R -- all in that consecutive order. The only Mod I've not experienced is CSR. My DH checked it out one afternoon a year or so ago and said it was too big for my liking. I believe him.

I didn't like CBR because it was just too big and everything was a hike.

I fell in love with PO-FQ. It is nice and small enough to get around and about. It doesn't have a full service restaurant anymore, however. I would continue to choose this resort if it wasn't for my 7 year old DD who fell in love with PO-R.

So, since my DD is the boss (LOL) we now stay at PO-R. She likes the pool and the playground area more than PO-FQ.

That being said, if it were just me and my DH, I would choose PO-FQ. There are fewer children at this resort than at PO-R and that helps to give it a more romantic, quiet feel.

Enjoy yourself where ever you wind up.

We have stayed at CBR, CS and POR. We have always enjoyed CBR the most. CS was too much a convention hotel and we didn't care for their food court. POR was nice, but we prefer the atmospher at CBR. Very tropical!

IMHO the mods all pretty much have the same amenities, so, it comes down to which theme you like the best.

I will say that foe two adults, POR or POFQ is nice because you have the boat to Downtown Disney and you may want to spend some time in the evenings there.

DH and I stayed at POR and we loved it.

Hi

I have stayed in all of these resorts and I agree with other comments that it comes down to preference for theming mostly.

CBR is probably my least favourite, for two reasons - I always seem to have a room miles away from the lobby/food court etc.
The proximity to Epcot means that if you are in your room at 9pm you will jump out of your skin when Illuminations starts - it is very loud and you can hear it very clearly. On the plus side though, I love the hammocks and beaches.

CSR is fabulous. I found it romantic and peaceful - the theming was great and the pool fantastic. I didn't see too many convention guests and it always felt like a Disney resort to me. I would say that it feels more upmarket than the other moderates. It s nicely placed for AK and BB, but can feel a little remote.

PO Riverside is fab - my favourite to look at and walk around. You can be placed along way from the lobby area, but the walk is very pleasant. I love the boat to Downtown and for that reason alone we have stayed at PO more than the other resorts.

PO FQ is great if you want everything close by. Even in the furthest building from reception you are very close to food court etc. The pool is great and the beignets wonderful. I also liked Scat Cats Lounge.

I think that I would probably choose either of the PO resorts if I were you.

Good Luck

I do think it is interesting if you look at the votes that it is almost evenly split between all resorts. Each resort appeals to someone more than the others. Each has its positives and negatives. My plan is to try them all!

For the poll, I've been to CBR and CSR and CBR would be my pick, but I liked them both. CSR was a long walk from the bus station.

I have stayed at all the mods (3 of them 2 times) my favorites in order are:

1.) Coronado Springs
-Great Pool area
-Great bus service (no sharing/close to all the parks)
-Good food court (lots of choice)
- Love the theme
-Newest
-Spa, exercise room, room service (not just pizza)
-Beach with hammocks

2.) POFQ
-Small
-Great landscaping
-Good bus service
-Romantic
-Fun pool
-Can share pool area with POR
-Boat to DD
-Wish they would bring a sit down restaurant back:(

3.) POR
-Fun resort
-Lots to do
-Can share with POFQ
-Boat to DD
-Two themes/areas to stay and walk around

4.) CBR
-Nice theme
-Beaches and hammocks
-Oldest
-Too close to Pop Century now-you can see it
-Hopefully the new restaurant will be much better

Hope this helps!
