Do you think with the new changes to buying resale it is worth it to buy resale or go through Disney? I am a newbie and looking into buying into DVC anyway I can. Thank you in advance.

It is the opinion of most people on these boards that DVC makes the most sense if used to stay in DVC resorts. Other options such as cruises or other Disney resorts are not great values in what they cost in points.

So being restricted to using the points for their best value is probably not that big of a problem.

Resale will save thousands of dollars depending on how many points you want and where. If you think you will use your DVC for visiting WDW, DL, Vero Beach, Hilton Head Island and Hawaii then resale is a great deal.

I think that it can be very beneficial to go resale, even with the changes. First, the options that were taken away are perks for all of us and even direct buyers can have those options removed down the line.

When you by DVC, what you are really buying is the right to stay at your home resort, and that is it.

Right now, the prices in the resale market make it very attractive. We are in the process of adding on to BWV at just $55/pt. Just over 2 years ago, BWV was going around $80/pt so for us, a great deal.

Resale unless you are buying BLT, or GCV

IMO they are close enough to the selling price it doesn't save enough to go through the resale trouble.

The price diff for some of the others it is soooo much different I am not sure anything could be taken away that would make direct worth it.

Note esp buying resale, buy where you want to stay, just in case. Less important direct.

Not sure that BLT falls into that category anymore with the current pricing. DVCNews has the pricing at $140/point with no incentives. Resales are going for somewhere in the neighborhood of $90/point. That is pretty significant.

Of course it would still be a matter of personal choice on whether the $50/point difference is worth it.

Yeah...and low-mid $80's, where the average seems to be, is even better. And then there's the one contract that sold and CLEARED ROFR at $66.25.

That's pretty significant.

I'll sugar-coat this as best I can.

You'd have to be brain-dead to pay $140 per point for BLT when you can buy it (if you want to buy it at all...which is another interesting question) for $55-60 per point less.

Unless you have your heart and $$$ set on a resort you can't get resale or the price difference isn't that much, I'd go resale. IMO the resale changes mean nothing to the real value or usage of DVC and I don't think the "other shoe will drop" in a way that will change that thought.

Resale! Buy more points for less money. If you want to take a vacation outside of WDW or RCI, rent out your points for $10.

It's a no-brainer.

 I veto my other comment... yup resale.. I thought it was 120$ with up to 14$ off and a gift card verses .. 90s .. (Guess they raised prices again.)

Resale. You are going to save lots. You are not just restricted to staying at Disney you can use resale points for RCI reservations too. SO if you want to stay at say the Biltmore in AZ, rent a cabin in the Smokey Mountains you can or any other RCI location.

Resale here-- changes make zero difference. Only time I may use DVC points for non-DVC would be Paris, so not a huge loss IMO.

We bought 200 points direct and 50 points resale-- wish we had known more about resale when we bought our first contract to save some $$$$.

I can already tell I'm going to get reamed for going this direction but my wife and I are buying direct at SSR. Yes, it costs more. However, my wife's parents are DVC members and she has gotten used to being able to spend points at places like the Polynesian, Disneyland hotel, etc.

Technically, yes, they could take away that ability. But I don't find it likely. They're taking it away from resale folks to help push people back to buying direct from Disney. Taking it away from Disney bought too would negate that benefit.

I'll also jump in and say buying at $140 from BLT is crazy. We took the cheapest resort we could because (and this is another thing we're in the minority in) we don't care too much where we stay. 7 month vs 11 month means little to us at this point.

You would be much better off renting out your points, and using the proceeds to book those resorts for cash. But, it's your nickel. More importantly, it's your marriage. You do what you have to do, and if paying developer prices for SSR is the biggest sacrifice you make, well, who am I to tell you you are wrong! ;)

Possibly. But keep in mind that Disney took away a benefit from resales and left it only for disney-bought. Who is to say that at some point Disney won't say "no more renting out points"? How they would do this without saying something like "all reservation parties must include one person from the membership" is beyond me.

But I like your attitude :goodvibes
