Which is better? Fly out morning or later afternoon

We leave on the first or second flight out from K.C., we have 1 layover as we haven't tried Southwest yet and the layover is usually in Chicago. We flew out on our last trip at 6:20am and didn't get to Orlando until 2:30PM...

You must fly Southwest! We left at 8:30 a.m. from KC and flew direct to Orlando, getting in around noon. Did you know when you fly direct, you pay less in taxes and fees too? At the KC airport, Southwest has curbside check-in and if you have little ones (under 4 years) you get to board first and pick your seat.

Even though we get to our hotel (the Swan/Dolphin) around one, we don't go to the parks on the first day. We stop at the grocery store on the way, then hang out at the pool, hopefully nap, and have a special meal at one of the resorts and walk around the Boardwalk. We're ready to get to the parks at opening the next day.

Southwest also has a direct flight from Orlando to Kansas City that leaves around 6 p.m. and gets into KC around 8:30. We are able to go to the parks on that last day if we want.

We always try to get the early flights to avoid delays. That way, if a flight is cancelled, theres usually a later flight. Also, in the summer, storms kick up in the afternoons and the air becomes a more unstable. We are fresher in the morning and can handle the stress of flying easier (vs being tired later in the day). Once we get to where were going, we either set out to explore, or grab some lunch and relax by the pool. We save the big stuff for the following days when we recover.

It has been our experience (we fly to Orlando every year--been so for 14 years now) that the later in the day your flight is, the higher chance of a delay. SO, last year, we opted for the park-n-fly package at a hotel at the airport. Flew out 7am to MCO and was at ASMo by 11am....not bad! We did the free stuff that day too.....swam, DTD, etc....next year we are going to make PS for Chef Mickey's on day of arrival...not too much rushing and more relaxing and restin' up for the park the next day!!!

We like to leave first thing in the morning when flying out. We have AP's so we get to our hotel/home, grocery shop if needed, relaxe a bit then hit the parks for a little magic. When we leave we take a late flight out so that we can hit the parks, go to CP for lunch, hit DTD, then on the airports and try to get back to reality! I don't know.....it is getting harder and harder to get back to reality. Last trip took us almost 2 months!

We leave early in the morning and come home late. I can't sleep the night before anyway so getting up early isn't too hard. With the boys I bathe and dress them in comfy clothes the night before. That way I just have to pop a tooth brush in their sleeping mouths and go. Then they get to sleep the whole way to the airport.
