My husband and I are driving to Disney World with our family so we will have our own car but are wondering which cabin number and loop we should request. I requested loop 2100 because it looked closest to the middle of the resort and was hoping we could walk to the main pool and trading post and maybe even the boat dock but I did not know which cabin numbers to request.
What are the advantages of different loops? We are taking our 4 college age "children -3 girls and a boy " so they will be capable of doing some walking but we are going in August so they/we may not enjoy walking if it is very hot and /or rainy. If we don't rent a golf cart how long does it take to walk from the 2100 loop to the main pool? to the boat dock to MK? I would really appreciate some tips and advice. Thank you

Hi. We stayed in 2500 and loved it. You could walk to the quiet pool, which has a hot tub now, and the laundry. There is a bus stop across the road. You can hop on a bus to go the main pool.

Not sure if any loops are truly walking distance to the main pool.

Best to rent a golf cart to get around the Fort if you don't want to wait for a bus. If you are going for a more leisurely time and don't care or wear a watch, then the internal bus system is fine. Just make sure you use Orange or Yellow buses to get to the Main Pool.

I have stayed in the 2200 and 2400 loops. I walked from the main pool back to the 2400 loop, and it took about 15 minutes. However, it was January, not August! I didn't attempt a walk to the marina or Outpost depot, but since it seemed like the Meadow complex was about half way between the Settlement and my cabins, I would guess at a normal pace it would take 30 minutes or maybe longer to walk from the marina to the 2100 loop. Not something I would even consider in August.

Although the 2100 loop is the most "central" of the cabin loops, it is not the closest to transportation. It shares the bus stop that is at the entrance of the 2200 loop, which is also shared by the 2300 loop. The bus stop at the entrance to the 2400 loop is also one of the bus stops for the cabin pool, so it's a good location.

My main request is always to be close to transportation. Since my trips are solo trips, I just can't justify the cost of a golf cart, so I rely on the buses to get around. I've never had a problem doing so - although I have found it can be more convenient to drive to Epcot, DHS, and AK than to take the buses, especially since you have your own assigned parking space right outside the cabin.

I cant see not having a golf cart unless you are only doing parks, leaving in the am and coming back late. Then a car is fine or even the buses once or twice a day. Regular use of the buses would get tiresome though, esp watching others breeze by in a cart while sitting in the heat.

Also, 6 adults in a cabin is going to be tight imo.

Thank you for the input! We decided to change our request to loop 2500 near the quiet pool. This way we will be close to something. The kids like to swim during afternoon breaks from the parks. We also reserved a golf cart even though it won't hold everyone. We will have to make two trips. Has anyone had that problem before? Is it still worth it to rent a golf cart if you have 6 people? The golf cart is a big expense I did not factor in when I made the cabin reservation so I don't want to rent one if it won't really make a difference. Also how do you keep the battery charged? How often do they need to be recharged?

Hi. You're going to be right next to a bus stop, so you really may not need the golf cart if you don't want to spend the money. I think golf cart vs. bus is really a state of mind. If you know and expect that you won't have a cart, you can handle it. We used a cart for a couple of days when we were planning to hang around the resort, but it's not necessary.

If you are "on a schedule" type person, then the pace at the Fort may not be for you. But overall I didn't find that taking a bus to the Outpost or Settlement, then another bus or boat to a park took any longer than the resorts that have more than one stop. I can say for sure it was quicker to go to Magic Kingdom from the Fort than it was at the Boardwalk!

The golf cart is a lot of fun, though!
