I am taking my younger brother on a brother/sister only trip in June for his 16th birthday. I want it to be very special for him....at his age who knows how many more brother/sister things he'll do! I was thinking either Animal Kingdom Lodge or Wilderness Lodge? I've never been to either and was wondering what some of you thought you either of them for a 16 year old?

they are both lovely resorts and in the same price range. I would ask myself these questions:

1) how much time do I think we'll spend at the Magic Kingdom? If the answer is A LOT - then WL is a good bet.

2) how important is convenience and ease of transporation? - choose WL if answer is VERY IMPORTANT. AKL has no direct transporation to anywhere except via a bus. If you have a car - who cares..

3) Which theme appeals to you or the 16 year old the most - Northwest Lodge theme or Africa. Keep in mind that the big draw of AKL is the animals roaming outside your room. For theme I would personally pick AKL.

4) How important is the pool? WL pool is small - AKL seems better to me.

Once you think about these things and decide what's important for you - yo can make a decision.

I would have to vote for the Wilderness Lodge. This is a great resort and no matter which room you are in, it's a short walk to everything. There is a boat launch to the Magic Kingdom & Contemporary resort. I love this resort!!! I requested a "woods" view room on my last trip and the picture below is the view I had. For more pics of the room & resort, click on the link below. The room had 2 beds, a balcony with 2 chairs and a table, as well as being close to the elevator. The service is great, you can rent water mice here and I like that it's small and compact.

Wilderness Lodge gets my vote!!
:wave: :earsgirl: ::yes::

I vote AKL!

Being that he is turning 16...he can be patient on a bus ride for 5-10 minutes longer then normal. (not like he's a toddler where transportation IS a big issue.)

It's educational and exotic...where else can you see animals like that just roaming around?

I've stayed at both...and well...the AKL blows my skirt up more then WL if you know what I mean.

Regardless - have fun! :)

AKL - The bus rides aren't that bad, perhaps even faster then other resorts because they go direct from AKL to park to AKL without stopping at other resorts or parks on the way.

AKL - We stayed there when our son was 16 and he loved it!! The whole resort is beautiful with so many places to see the animals!! Great food and a neat pool. We love AKL!!

Would you ever consider the BC/YC or BWI? My 16 year-old niece LOVED the YC because of the great pool, ESPN Club, Boardwalk Bakery, all the boardwalk activity (try the surrey bikes), the quick boat ride or walk to MGM (think Rockin Rollercoaster and Tower of Terror) and Epcot (open late!) We found the bus ride to MK and AK easy, too, though I know it can get busy some times of the year. We have stayed at WL and it is beautiful but seemed very quiet and serene compared to the energy of the boardwalk area. Have fun deciding!

Animal Kingdom seems like it would be better. More to see, and the pool is neat!!

The Wilderness Lodge .....

I like the way you can wake up and see the Castle in the morning :teeth:
